Records are comprised of four pages of transcripts and research notes in English and French containing the names of the first students that attended Sacred Heart Residential School in Fort Providence between 1867 and 1878. The Sacred Heart (Sacre-Coeur) school, established by the Grey Nuns, was the first school in the Mackenzie District. Many of the names in the school register, such as Beaulieu and Bouvier, indicate that the children were of Metis descent.

This fonds consists of 444 black and white 4 x 5 negatives and approximately 2 cm of textual material. The images were collected and taken by various Oblate fathers at the Sacred Heart Parish in Fort Simpson. Although one of the primary photographers was Father Henri Posset, many of the images appear to have been collected from other archives. The images depict the Oblate Fathers, Grey Nuns and Dene residents who either worked at, or attended, the churches, schools and hospitals operated by the Roman Catholic Church. Locations covered include Fort Simpson, Nahanni Butte, Fort Liard, Rae, Fort Providence, Trout Lake, Jean Marie River and Wrigley. The textual material includes 21 newsletters dated between 1960-1963 entitled "The Catholic Voice." These newsletters were produced by the Sacred Heart Parish and include a message from the church, as well as document the social, recreational and academic activities in the community.

This accession consists of 2 copies of the 1968-1969 yearbook ("Banksland Story") for the Sachs Harbour school. Included are photographs of the teachers and students as well as images of other residents and everyday life on Banks Island. Also included is a short history and statistics on Sachs Harbour and Banks Island.

The reports, typically illustrated, often include a short historical background on the mine or area, the anticipated goals of the visit, a travelogue, a site investigation report, a report on the various buildings and structures remaining, a report on equipment and machinery, a list of items salvaged, colour photographs, a list a photo identifications, hand drawn maps of the site or area, hand-coloured diagrams, copies of aerial photographs, and hand drawn renderings of buildings or floor plans.

This accession consists of a map titled "A Sketch Map of the Great Bear Lake Region in the Mackenzie District explored by J. Mackintosh Bell 1900", dated May 13, 1901 and apparently published by the Royal Geographic Society in its Geographical Journal of 1901.

The photos were created between 1927 and 1930. Most of the images depict the day-to-day life of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers in and around the communities of Fort Norman (now Tulita), Fort Good Hope, Fort Franklin (now Deline), and Fort Simpson. There are also a number of images of scenery along the South Nahanni River.

This fonds consists of approximately 70 cm of textual material, 3 maps and 211 photographs, produced or accumulated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from 1910 to 1980.

Many of the textual records are from the Arctic Red River detachment and date from 1925 to 1954. These include: patrol diaries (1927-1953, 1944-1948 missing); patrol reports (1926-1934); some annual reports (1927-1931); financial records (1926-1943); requisitions (1926-1954, with gaps); shipping invoices (1929-1933); ledgers; fur export tax receipts and returns (1929-1943); hunting and trapping permits and returns (1926-1943); game licenses (1926-1942); trading post permits (1929-1942); radio receiving license receipts and returns (1927-1953); crown timber returns (1926-1943); liquor permits (1929-1939); income tax returns (1929-1942); marriage licenses (1951-1953); vital statistics records (1926-1943); some hunting and trapping records pertaining to the Yukon (1929-1954); administrative records such as instructions of various kinds (192?-1950); correspondence (1926-1953); a file on the administration of estates (1926-1948); and two maps containing hunting and trapping information.

There is also a disc listing from 1969 related to the Inuvik region.

The photographs in this fonds cover a variety of subjects and locations, and were taken between 1910 to 1973. They include photographs of ceremonies and events: such as an RCMP centenary banquet held in Pine Point; an RCMP band tour; the dedication of a plaque on the Henry Larsen Building (RCMP detachment) in Yellowknife; Governor General George Vanier's 1961 tour in the Northwest Territories; and the search for, and burial of the members of the RCMP Dawson Patrol (the Lost Patrol).

Additional subjects depicted are the RCMP detachments and personnel across the north, Hudson's Bay Company buildings and employees, Anglican and Catholic missions, residents of the various communities across the Northwest Territories and the Flat River Patrol of the South Nahanni.

The map, (National Topographic System Sheet 106 M) of Fort McPherson, is annotated with the location where the Dawson Patrol died in 1911 and the location where Albert Johnson, the Mad Trapper, killed an RCMP constable.

This fonds consists of 33 black and white photographs taken or acquired by Roy Quinstrom between 1937-1939 while he was an employee of Consolidated Mining and Smelting Ltd. of Yellowknife. The images include the first gold brick poured in the North, the Con Mine site, raising a cat tractor from below the ice, scenery, floatplanes and barges.

The photographs document the construction of a winter road between Fort Providence and Inuvik in 1963-1964. The 8 mm film appears to depict a flight from Calgary to Norman Wells. The 16 mm film depicts the loading and unloading of barges through various communities along the Mackenzie River, including Hay River, Fort Simpson, Fort Wrigley and Fort Good Hope. The cartographic booklet is comprised of maps of the Mackenzie River.

The materials formerly belonged to Ross Laycock, who worked on the first winter road up the Mackenzie Valley from Fort Providence to Inuvik in the 1960s.

This fonds consists of 34 photographs, one report from the Children's Aid Society of Yellowknife (1959) and two audio reels of an interview done by the NWT Archives with Mr. Richard Ross in 1984. The photographs were removed from an album that was put together by Mr. Ross for a display for the 50th anniversary session of the Mine Rescue. The audio reels contain an interview with Ross that includes a short biographical sketch, descriptions of the photographs in the album and some historical information on mining operations and Yellowknife.

Records include photographs of Fort Resolution, Dettah, Ndilo, Lutselk'e and Camp Antler. The photos from Lutselk'e show the church, airport, scenery, barges, Peter Mercredi, summer camps, a wedding ceremony and communion ceremony. The images from Camp Antler show children and camping activities. The images from Detah and Ndilo include a winter picnic, snowmobiling, a house on Latham Island, wedding party, and views of the community. The remaining images are of Fort Resolution and include the mission sawmill, aerial views of the community, a bombardier, as well as the identified people from the following families: Fabeau, Beaulieu, Delorme, Marrec, McPherson, Lafferty, Sayine, Mandeville, Lisette, McKay, Erasmus, Lawrence, Balsillie, King, Schaeffer, Dow, Vuka, Michel and Edjericon.

The photograph depicts a painting by Elsbeth Rodger entitled "Alberta Aviation Pioneers." Included in the painting are Punch Dickins, Wop May, Fred McCall, Grant McConachie, and Cy Becker.

Records consist of one explosives permit issued to A.V. "Fred" Giauque in August 1964, and a souvenir leaflet/folder from the Ingraham Hotel in Yellowknife. The explosives permit contains a photograph of Mr. Giauque who, along with two of his sons, moved to Yellowknife in 1938. He worked as a contractor for the U.S. Army on the Canol Project, and then began a career as a prospector. From the many claims he staked and then sold, both the Discovery Mine and the Rayrock Mine were eventually opened. Vic Ingraham moved to Yellowknife in 1937 and opened his first hotel, the Ingraham Hotel in 1941. The Ingraham Hotel featured in the pamphlet was the second hotel of that name built by Vic Ingraham in Yellowknife, and it was opened in 1947.

Records consist of nine stories from Pangnirtung written in syllabics; and one file containing results of a questionnaire on the value of the magazine 'Inuttituut.' The sound recordings contain an interview with Markoosie and traditional Inuit songs and games.

Records include unpublished and published manuscripts, stories, poems and essays by Joe Tedjuk, Agnes Nanogak, John Ayaruaks, Mary Carpenter, Kenn and Navaran Harper, Saladin D'Anglure and a number of Inuit elders and children. The material was written between 1960 and 1989.

This accession consists of three black and white photographs of Yellowknife showing part of the Con Mine camp (:0001), the Yellowknife Hotel (:0002), and the hospital (:0003).

This fonds consists of 75 black and white negatives. 74 of the negatives were taken from August 1946 to May 1948 and are cellulose nitrate. One negative was taken in June, 1994 as a comparison to an earlier image of the same location. The photographs feature the locations of Port Radium, Yellowknife, and Norman Wells. Subjects include an Eldorado Mining and Refining, Ltd. camp, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals stations, airplanes, Governor General Alexander's 1947 visit to the Northwest Territories, the Imperial Oil Limited camp and a Royal Canadian Mounted Police dog patrol. Most of the images were photographed by Robert van't Hoff, however two images are credited to Henry Busse.

The textual records are comprised of one certificate, recording the establishment of the Council of the Order of St. John for the Northwest Territories on June 24, 1972, signed on the verso by some founding members; a 1979 Ball Programme for the NWT Council for the Order of St. John from November 24, 1979; and an oversized document describing the first animals at L.D. Livingstone's Polar Sea Dairy Farm in Aklavik. The photographs document the founding members of the NWT Council of St. John Ambulance, and the first induction of members to the Order of St. John. The sound recording is an LP record of 'Two Hands and For Ever: a new musical about Old Yellowknife', produced in 1978.

This fonds consists 4.7 m of text, approximately 1972 photographs, 44 maps, 17 architectural drawings, and 6 audio cassettes relating to Robert R. (Bob) Janes' work in the Northwest Territories as an archaeologist, first Director of the Territorial Central Museum (later the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre or PWNHC), and Executive Director of the Science Institute of the Northwest Territories (SINT). The textual records include archaeological field notes and reports, papers and articles written and collected by Janes, reviews, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, PWNHC building planning and operation files, newsletters, newspaper clippings, EXPO’86 planning files, and PWNHC and SINT publications. The photographs, maps, and architectural plans document archaeological work at Fort Alexander, Willow Lake, and Dealy Island, the construction, opening, and early operations of the PWNHC, the unveiling of the Sir John Ross plaque in Taloyoak (Spence Bay), and the research station at Iglulik (Igloolik). One plan shows preparations for the Northwest Territories pavilion at EXPO’86. The sound recordings include interviews and a recording of a church service for Janes’ ethnoarchaeological project at Willow Lake.

The photographs were taken during Lieutenant Love's tour of Yellowknife in 1943 on his way to Watson Lake Yukon. Included are views of Old Town Yellowknife buildings, aircraft - US Army Beech 18, CF-BAU Norseman and CF-BTW Bellanca Air cruiser.

Records are comprised of one field book attributed to Robert Lees. The book includes a prospectors supply list including food list, some prospecting notations and a few poems.

This fonds consists of audio reels, audiocassettes, microfilm and textual records that were created by linguist Dr. Robert Howren beginning in the late 1960s to 1982. The textual material is comprised of 28 notebooks containing his field notes, primarily relating to his work with Tłı̨chǫ (Dogrib) speakers. They are in several series: 1967, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1977, and 1982. The sound recordings, recorded mainly in Tłı̨chǫ (Dogrib) but also in Dëne Sųłıné (Chipewyan), Dinjii Zhuʼ Ginjik (Gwich'in), Dene Kǝdǝ́ (North Slavey), Dene Zhatıé (South Slavey), Tse'khene (Sekani), Denaakk'e (Koyukon), Tutchone, Upper Tanana, Tanacross, Dane-zaa (Beaver), Dakelh (Carrier), include 111 audiocassettes and 178 audio reels. The audio reels range in date from 1957 to the late 1970s; the audiocassettes date mostly from 1982. Howren's collection also includes recordings gathered from other linguists and researchers.

There are 6 reels of microfilm, five of which relate to Slave language grammars and lexicons that likely date from the 1950s or 1960s. The other reel, dated 1971, is marked only with the title Golla, V. Hupa. The photographic material consists of 35 mm negatives and appears to be a copy of Father Edouard Guoy's French -Slavey Dictionary (Dictionairre francais - esclase) from 1930.

This fonds consists of 130 photographs and 2 cm of textual material. The photographic material is made up of 130 black and white negatives and prints. They include images of the Eldorado Mine at Echo Bay on Great Bear Lake, Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company (Con Mine), Hudson's Bay Company posts along the Mackenzie River and several types of marine transportation. Types of boats depicted include scows, sternwheelers, barges and tugboats. There are photographs of the "M.V. Hearne Lake", "Dease Lake", "Prospector", "Laird River", "S.S. Distributor", "S.S. Midnight Sun", "Great Bear", "M.V. Nechemus", "S.S. Northland Trader" and the "Silver Queen." Some photographs depict the traditional lifestyles of the Dene and Inuvialuit. There are also images of the following locations: Athabasca Landing, Yellowknife, Fort Franklin, Fort Norman, Fort McPherson, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson and Fort Smith. In addition, there are 23 aerial photographs of communities in the Northwest Territories, which were taken by the Royal Canadian Air Force. The photographic material also consists of copies of images taken by C.W. Mathers, a professional photographer from Edmonton who toured communities along the Mackenzie River in 1901. The textual material includes one copy of the words of the song "Home in the North," two copies of a certificate stating that the recipient is a "...blood brother of Raymond the Raven," one laminated reprint of a Mackenzie River Transport schedule from 1939 and two copies of a Mackenzie River Transport Ltd.
