The textual records consists of one letter describing the audiocassette. Most of the photographs date from between 1963 and 1978, although there is one from 1932 and several from 1993. The photographs document the Reverend Ben S. Hall's life in Hay River from 1963-1970, as well as a 1978 Boy Scouting trip to Coppermine and Pine Point. They also depict images of public events, Katlodeeche First Nation Reserve, aircraft, clergy, and Yellowknife. The audio cassette narrates the series of colour slides of the Boy Scout trip to Coppermine and Pine Point.

This fonds consists of 0.6 cm of textual records, ca. 13,000 photographs (col. slides, col. negatives, and b&w negatives), and 31 reels of 16 mm film.

The textual records comprise two newsletters produced by Bern Will Brown and a series of letters written by Capt. C.T. Pederson. The newsletters give a brief overview of life in the community of Colville Lake during 1991 and 1992, including items of interest relating to various members of the community. The Pedersen correspondence is autobiographical, including reminiscences of C.T. Pederson of some of his activities in the north; the majority are addressed to Father Brown of Our Lady of the Snows Mission in Colville Lake, but one letter is addressed to Commander Ransom.

The photographs include images of a wide variety of subjects, particularly activities of the Catholic Church and traditional activities of the Dene, Inuvialuit and Inuit, including hunting, trapping and transportation. There are photos of many locations throughout the NWT as well as some locations in Nunavut, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

The films and videocassettes include footage of dog teams, life at Colville Lake, Fort McMurray, Alberta, Aklavik, Husky Lakes, Whitefish Station, Tulita (Fort Norman), Nahanni Butte, Fort Simpson, Bern Will Brown, various Catholic priests and bishops, fishing, children at play, aircraft, construction of the mission, reindeer, whaling, trapping, hunting, church services, many local families including: Kochon, Codzi, Masuzumi, Cotchilly, Oudzi and political visitors such as Governors-General.

The record is 40 minutes long and documents a 'healing walk' for residential school students. The march was held in Yellowknife on June 1, 2000 to raise awareness of the legacy of residential schools in the NWT. With funding from the Aboriginal Healing Foundation and the Department of Education, Culture and Employment, the Trauma Treatment Training Program for community caregivers of the NWT coordinated the event. The march stopped at various Yellowknife locations to acknowledge the impact and responsibility different organizations played in the legacy of residential schools. These included: Akaitcho Hall, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Gold Range Bar, the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development building (the Bellanca Building), and the NWT Legislative Assembly. The end of the march featured a sharing circle at the Legislative Assembly building and a drum dance ceremony. The video includes a speech by Robert (Bob) Overvold of DIAND and Sister Dora Durand of the Roman Catholic Church. The video also includes individual interviews with participants and organizers of the march. Production staff included Dennis Allen (Camera/Editor), Chris Rodgers (Second Camera), Peter Squirrel (Titles), Delphine Elleze (Producer) and the Native Communications Society (NCS-TV).

This accession consists of materials relating to Pope John Paul II's 1987 visit to Fort Simpson. Included in the collection are two programmes from the visit and seven colour photographs.

Records include photographs related to the annual Canadian Championship Dog Derby, the spring dogsledding race held in conjunction with Caribou Carnival in Yellowknife, and the Matt Murphy trophy, the prize awarded to the winner. The photographs depict sled dogs in racing scenes, fans and dogs preparing for the start of the race, a musher holding a handful of awards, and the trophy itself.

Records are comprised of program guides for the Caribou Carnival annual spring festival in Yellowknife. The guides, which vary from newsprint to full-colour, date from 1978 to 1995. The Carnival, which began in the mid-1960s, was famous for hosting the Canadian Championship Dog Derby dogsledding race. The last Caribou Carnival took place on Frame Lake, Yellowknife in 2009.

This accession consists of four colour photographs and 0.5 cm text. Three photographs depict the posthumous awarding of a Coronation Medal to Michael Amarouk. Amarouk's wife, Martha Kigjugalik, accepted the medal presented by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Corporal Clare Dent, surrounded by Kigjugalik's family. The other photograph shows Superintendent H. A. Larsen presenting an RCMP Long Service Medal to retired S/Cst. Parker at Baker Lake, the first Inuit man to receive this award. The photo was taken by Dent. Also included in this accession are 0.5 cm of textual material consisting of photocopies of typewritten accounts by Dent of these and subsequent events.

This fonds consists of two DAT audiocassettes (archival masters) and one audio reel (original master). The recordings are of the 2nd Annual Drum Dance Festival held at the Coppermine school on December 25-26, 1955. David S. Wilson recorded the festival and provided an introduction and periodic commentary on the recordings.

This accession consists of 22 colour negatives of Inuvik's 25th anniversary celebration, held July 18, 1983.

This fonds consists of 513 colour slides, 8 colour prints, 2 original master sound cassettes and 2 DAT audiocassettes. The original two audiocassettes were copied to DAT circa 1995-1996. The DAT cassettes now constitute the archival masters. The two DAT audio cassettes (items :0522 and :0523) document the first meeting of the Great Slave Lake Housing Association which was held at Hay River in July, 1969. The 513 colour slides (items :0001 to :0513) and the colour prints (items :0514 to :0521) depict a variety of northern communities. Twenty of the slides (items :0366 to :0385) are copies of images taken by Sister B. Matte, a Grey Nun who worked in Rae in the 1960s and 1970s. Many of these images illustrate the social conditions, which existed in the 1960s and 1970s. A large number of images focus upon education in the north; depicting schools, adult education centres, teachers and students. There are also many images, which depict types of housing found in various communities. Subjects covered include education, housing, transportation, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police ceremony to honour Special Constables in the north, recreational activities, Caribou Carnivals in Yellowknife, Sports Day activities in Pangnirtung in 1971, and Toonik Tyme festivities in Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) circa 1970. Communities depicted include: Arctic Bay, Baker Lake, Cambridge Bay, Colville Lake, Coppermine, Detah (Dettah), Eskimo Point (Arviat), Fort Chimo, Fort Good Hope, Fort Liard, Fort McPherson, Fort Norman, Fort Providence, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Fort Wrigley, Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit), Hall Beach, Hay River, Igloolik, Inuvik, Nahanni Butte, Norman Wells, Pangnirtung, Pelly Bay, Pond Inlet, Port Burwell, Rae-Edzo, Rankin Inlet, Repulse Bay, Sachs Harbour, Spence Bay (Taloyoak), Tuktoyaktuk and Yellowknife.

This accession consists of two copies of a general letter from Commissioner Stuart M. Hodgson declaring 1970 to be the centennial for the Northwest Territories. These letters were carried by dog sled to fourteen communities in the Mackenzie basin as part of the Centennial Western Dog Sled Mail Run. They are postmarked Inuvik and addressed to the Centennial Centre in Yellowknife.

This fonds consists of 21 festival programs and eight promotional posters of the Folk on the Rocks Music Festival. The programs date from 1980-2001. There was no program produced for 1986. The majority of the programs are full-colour, although a few were printed on newsprint. The colour posters date from 1994-2001.

Records are comprised of program guides and promotional brochures for the Great Northern Arts Festival, an annual summer event held in Inuvik. The event features fine arts, arts and crafts and music by northern and southern artists.

This fonds includes 43 black and white photographs, 87 colour slides and 2 cm of textual material. The black and white prints were taken in the early 1920s depict oil drilling activities and camps in the Norman Wells region. These photographs were taken by a photographer from Toronto possibly employed by the "Star" paper or by the Imperial Oil Company. A set of his photographs was given to David Henry. The colour slides were taken by Davina Henry while living in Yellowknife. The include views of Yellowknife in the 1950s, the visit of Prince Philip to Yellowknife in 1959, views of the Dog Derby and winter carnival, a chruch celebration in Fort Rae and the 1958 July 1st parade in Yellowknife. The textual material consists of memorabilia collected by Davina Henry during her time in Yellowknife. It includes copies of Annual Dog Derby Programs from 1959 to 1962, an informational brochure produced by the Yellowknife Board of Commerce in 1946 and her father's entry certificate into the Northwest Territories dated 1921.

Records include sound recordings of Dogrib (Tlicho) chants and drum dances recorded at Fort Rae (Behchoko). All three reels contain the same content.

This collection contains a variety of material relating to the Kinette Club of Yellowknife, ca. 1961-1966, including a large wooden scrapbook ("Kinsmen - Kinette - Yellowknife"), which includes photographs and signature pages from Kinsmen events in the 1960s. Also included are a number of Kinsmen/Kinette newsletters, clippings and loose photographs.

Records include photographs taken by Maxine Colbourne during her time as a teacher in Aklavik and Inuvik, documenting Christmas celebrations, domestic scenes, her students and classrooms, outdoor activities (picnics, boat rides, sledding), views of buildings in Aklavik and Inuvik, and social and cultural activities (curling, dances, festivals and parades). Many of the images feature children who were likely her students. Also included are photographs of Daniel Norris, a 1963 trip to Fairbanks, Alaska for a curling tournament, visits to Duck Lake Reserve (possibly Beardy's and Okemasis Cree Nation, Duck Lake, Saskatchewan) in 1961 and 1964, a visit to Yellowknife, photographs of her young sons, and photographs from her time teaching. The photographs also document her classroom and students at Lower Post Residential School in British Columbia in 1968.

This accession consists of four programmes for Christmas concerts produced by the students of the Federal Day School in Nahanni Butte. The programmes are for the 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966 concerts. They contain Christmas carol sheets and the text from plays produced by the students during the concert.

Records include images documenting the official opening of the Snare River Power Development. Item :0001 shows the guests of the ceremony outside the main hydro building. Item :0002 shows dignitaries including: F. Fraser, District Administrator of the NWT; J.W. Wardle, Chairman of the NWT Power Corporation; K. Muir of Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines; and A.F. Totzke, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Yellowknife Administrative District.

Records consist of a report and booklet about the T.E.S.T. Ski Program, a booklet and program for the Top of the World Ski Championships, a booklet for the Northern Games, and a program for Caribou Carnival. They were collected by Lorna Clement during her time in various communities of the Northwest Territories.

This fonds consists of approximately 2 meters of text from the Centennial Centre. The bulk of the material, dated from 1969 to 1971, was part of the Central Registry system (19 Block). The records include materials related to community directed activities and central initiatives such as the Centennial Newsletter, Centennial Medallion, Centennial Ball, Centennial Map and three "First Day Covers" consisting of stamped envelopes regarding the Centennial Eastern Dog Sled Mail Run in April 1970. The stamps are post marked Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet and Inuvik. . The remaining material consists of files relating to the Centennial Conference, an interim report regarding Centennial Activities, Centennial Programs, and Briefing Notes concerning the planning of activities and copies of Centennial newsletters and a schedule of events.

This fonds consists of approximately 8 meters of textual material, approximately 73,344 black and white and colour photographs in print, negative and slide formats including many duplicates, 224 audiocassettes, 165 audio reels, 5 DAT audiocassettes, 25 16-mm films, 15 videocassettes in Beta, VHS and Helical Scan videotape formats and 4 architectural drawings. The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Northwest Territories Archives generated the bulk of the textual material. The material consists of transcripts of interviews conducted by the Northwest Territories Archives with Father Louis Menez, Violet Beaulieu and Sven Johansson. Six of the audio reels contain stories that were recorded at the Miner's Mess restaurant as part of the Cultural Festival component of the 1990 Arctic Winter Games held in Yellowknife and feature storytelling by Claire Barnabe, Barb Bromley, Rene Fumoleau, Jim Green, Abe Okpik, Erik Watt, Lorne Schollar, D'Arcy Arden, George Blondin, Neil Colin, Mary Forrest, Pete Fraser, Joe Tobie and Jim Bourque. Other cassettes feature interviews with Ben Sutherland and Laura Loutitt. In addition, there are audiocassettes and English translations of an interview conducted by the Archaeology Section with Slavey Elder George Boots and video cassettes of "Drum Lake-Archaeology", "The Last Mooseskin Boat", and "Where Time Began". There are also records from the Northwest Territories Historical Advisory Board, the Northwest Territories Heritage Council and Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, including the NWT Arts Council. Included are operational and administrative files from the Archaeological and Historic Sites program, Education and Extension program, Territorial Plaque program, Exhibits program, Museum grants and Northwest Territories Archives. Records from the Culture and Heritage Division (Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre) consist of various administrative records concerning Land Use applications, minutes of various Culture and Heritage Division meetings, program reports, support for community heritage related efforts, promotional pamphlets, archaeology permit requests, museum policy development, and special Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre projects such as Trapline - Lifeline.

Also included are files on various conferences such as the Canadian Conference on Historical Resources, the Northern Museums Conference, and Committees such as the Interdepartmental Committee on Archaeology, the Canada-Northwest Territories Consultative Committee on Parks and the Museum Advisory Committee.

A small portion of the textual records were created by the Language Bureau including a Briefing Note for the Minister about the activities of the Language Bureau, a proposal from an consultant and input from the Language Bureau about an operational review of the division, an evaluation of the Language Bureau and comments on the NWT Literacy Strategy by the staff of the Language Bureau. The remainder of the files include records from the Athapaskan Language Steering Committee, the Dene Languages Committee and internal newsletters that were produced by the Language Bureau called Dene Yati, The Booth, Language Bureau Bulletin and one newsletter called Tusagatsait.

There are approximately 55,724 black and white and colour photographs in print, negative and slide formats that were generated or acquired by the Television and Radio Services Division, Department of Culture and Communications and by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The collection of photographs from Television and Radio Services document the Government of the Northwest Territories involvement in housing, education and training, arts and crafts, tourism, transportation and industry. There are also images documenting native land use, community activities, special events such as Expo '86 and Arctic Winter Games, public buildings and housing, Commissioners of the Northwest Territories, NWT Council, the Legislative Assembly and Members of the Legislative Assembly. The photographs from the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre include photographs taken at Pine Point, Fort Resolution and Pangnirtung, as well as photographs created by archaeological and historic site surveys, and photographs of the Aviation Gallery at the Heritage Centre. The 132 audiocassettes, 155 sound reels and 4 DAT audio cassettes consist of recordings that were produced and collected by the Radio and Television Services Division of the Department of Culture and Communications between 1970-1986 and by the Northwest Territories Archives and Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The recordings include soundtracks for films, interviews, speeches, special effect sounds, Inuit throat singing and government programs such as the series "Behind Closed Doors-A Series on Spousal Assault in the Northwest Territories" and "So You Want to Start Your Own Business." The 25 16-mm films include copies of "You Can't Grow Potatoes Up There"; "Koukdjuak Crossing: Caribou Tagging on Baffin Island"; "Bathurst Inlet Caribou" (may also be titled: To Have Forever: Hunting the Bathurst Caribou Herd); "Nikko Island", "Wood Bison"; "Kellett's Storehouse"; "Yellowknife"; "Caribou"; "Heritage Centre Spots"; "Kissiutiyeet"; "Gordon Lake"; "Decisions"; "Future"; and "Anik Info Spots" (air prints). The Beta videocassettes contain videos produced by the Language Bureau of the Department of Culture and Communications. The films are entitled "MLA," "Home Maintenance-Northwest Territories Housing Corporation," "Home Maintenance-Canadian Mortgage Housing Corporation" and "How the Fur Trade Works" which is in South Slavey. The two helical scan videos consist of a Keewatin Economic Development Conference and the film "Hire North." Another Betamax cassette is of "Rivers of Faith" documenting Pope John Paul II's visit to Fort Simpson in 1987. The architectural drawings were generated by a project through the Northwest Territories Archives in which the old Catholic Mission building in Fort Resolution was documented.

Also contained in this fonds are materials dating from 1986-1991 including 3 Baffin Bulletin newsletters, 2 spousal assault newsletters, a report on spousal abuse, a report on the traditional knowledge working group, a directory guide of Northern cultural and arts performers from approximately 1990, NWT Data Sheets, Metis, Dene, and Inuit pamphlets, and various press releases.

This fonds consists of 2731 colour photographs in slide and print formats, 6 audio reels, 75 film reels, 10 umatic videocassettes, approximately 1.14 meters of textual material, 8 microfilm reels and 15 posters. The photographs depict communities throughout the Northwest Territories, indigenous animals, landmarks, Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line sites, Anglican and Catholic Missions, schools, Dene and Inuit peoples and landscapes. In addition, there are images of the 1978 Arctic Winter Games, Commissioner Hodgson's tour of the Northwest Territories in 1969 and photographs documenting the construction of a mooseskin boat at Fort Norman and the Keele River Camp in 1981. The textual material consists of a report on the Commissioner's Tours of the Upper Mackenzie, Nahanni and Liard River Area, Central Arctic and Western Arctic between 1969-1970, as well as a journal kept by Beryl Gillespie documenting the construction of the Mooseskin Boat Project that took place in 1981. The bulk of the textual material consists of files from the Central Registry and were from the following Central Registry blocks: Policy (11-000); Settlements (11-004); Tours (11-005); Publications (11-006) and Communications (11-012). There is also approximately 5.5 cm of newsletters, brochures and booklets on varied topics such as translation services, the NWT visual identity program, regional information (mostly the Keewatin region), an Analysis of the Dene Language Information Review, the Dene and Inuit Traditional Life Series, and 6 years of weekly Territorial bulletins (incomplete). The microfilm reels contain files from the Central Registry dated between 1970-1973 from the following program areas: Policy, Settlements, Publications, Public Relations and Miscellaneous (11 block) and from Conferences and Administration (13 block). There are also 10 umatic videocassettes and 19 film reels that document the Mooseskin Boat Project. The remaining 57 films (16 mm) document events in the Northwest Territories, such as the Commissioner's Tour of the Northwest Territories in 1969-1970, the 1970 Arctic Winter Games, Caribou Carnival in Yellowknife, Camp Unity and a CBC production about whaling in the north. The five sound reels provide audio for some of these films. The remaining material consists of 15 posters that represent images of the Northwest Territories, including wildlife and northern residents in both the Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions.

This fonds consists of 6 cm of textual material including: correspondence and minutes of the Northwest Territories Status of Women Action Committee; newsletters; reports and news clippings from the 1973 Northwest Territories Status of Women Conference; reports and minutes concerning the 1975 Yellowknife Women's Festival; poster orders; and reports on progress made and issues of interest.
