This fonds consists of 262 photographs, a 1921 article written by Fred Jackson for the Hudson's Bay Company publication "The Beaver" about the first planes in Fort Simpson, notes by John Berens on the 1924 wreck of the "S.S. Northland Trader" and barge "Bell Rock" and Jackson's 1921 radiotelegraphy (telegraph) licence. The photographs include two albums titled "From the Land of the Midnight Sun" and feature various Dene and Inuit communities in northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Also featured are steam ships, the Hay River Mission and school children.

The textual material includes correspondence from Albert Faille's son, a Nahanni Safaris brochure, and certificates belonging to Albert Faille. The photographs include images of the Nahanni Region, Albert Faille, Jean and Hal Bennett and Faille's son.

This fonds consists of one DAT audio cassette and 5 cm of textual material. The DAT audio cassette contains a recording of Dr. Cass in early 1980, dictating letters for her secretary. She discusses her health and her recent trip to Brazil with the International Society of Geographic Opthalmology. The textual material consists of transcripts that contain Dr. Cass' personal observations on the Gwich'in. These observations were made in 1959. Her recollections cover such topics as puberty, religious beliefs, burial customs, personal hygiene, marriage, music and dancing. She has also recorded many of the Gwich'in stories and legends that were related to her by such individuals as Paul Bonnetplume (Aklavik), Annie McPherson (Fort McPherson), Peter Lord (Old Crow, Yukon), Lazarus Sittichinli, Peter Moses and Edward Snowshoe. Although many of the legends relate to medicine men, Dr. Cass also recounts stories about the Willow Man, the Ungrateful Indian, Sakeethuck the "Trickster," the Crow Who Lost His Beak, the Lazy Boy, three stories about Bushmen and a two hour saga about two brothers as told to her by Edward Snowshoe. The remaining textual material consists of reports written by Dr. Elizabeth Cass. The reports examine blindness and eye problems amongst children and adults in the Northwest Territories. There are charts and graphs included in the reports.

This fonds consists of 81 cm of records created by Robert Bouchard. Although the records are mainly his client files, some of his personal business records are included. The papers include legal actions for murder, rape, incest, divorce, maintenance, transfers of mining claims, and various motor vehicle offenses. Each file appears to contain copies of related incoming and outgoing correspondence, including Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reports. There are also a number of transcripts of murder trials held in the NWT. The papers have been arranged into three series: client files; community files; and administration and miscellaneous files.

This fonds consists of 2 DAT audiocassettes, 2 audio reels and one centimeter of textual material. The two DAT audiocassettes and 2 audio reels contain recordings done by Father Henri Posset. The first recording was made in September 1957. It consists of drumming and chanting taped in Jean Marie River and Fort Franklin, fiddle music from Fort Franklin and various Slavey legends related by Johnny Betseda of Fort Simpson and Jean Marie Punch of Fort Providence. The second recordings with John Tsetso were made on April 1, 1964 in St. Margaret's Hospital at Fort Simpson. In this recording, Tsetso narrates, in Slavey, the first three chapters of his book, "Trapping is my Life", which was published in February 1964. He also relates two other stories about summer and winter. The fonds also contains two letters written by Father Posset which provide some biographical information on Johnny Betseda, John Tsetso and Jean Marie Punch. There is also a typed transcript of an interview between Father Posset and William Nerysoo, Sr., relating to Gwich'in personal names, which was conducted on November 23, 1987.

This fonds consists of 79 colour photographs that were in an album compiled by members of the Sanavisak Guild in Pine Point. The accession also contains the minutes of a meeting held on September 8, 1965 to discuss the formation of the guild; two guild newsletters, one from March 1982 and the other from 1983; and the programme for the guild's 10th Anniversary dinner and dance. The photographs document many of the activities of the Sanavisak Guild in Pine Point between 1969 and 1984. The majority of the images are well identified. Activities depicted include craft and bake sales, Christmas parties and floats decorated by the guild for the annual Pine Days parade and celebrations.

This fonds consists of 1,261 colour slides, 110 black and white prints (originally contained in 7 albums and 2 folders), and 81 black and white negatives. Many of the images are of federal building projects that were undertaken in approximately 25 communities within the Northwest Territories. The collection documents construction of buildings during a period in which responsibilities for communities shifted from federal to territorial jurisdiction. Also included are portraits, images of Hudson's Bay Company buildings, Royal Canadian Mounted Police posts, Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line sites, churches and missions, scenery and wildflowers throughout the north and aerial photographs of the communities, including some in the Yukon and northern Quebec.

This fonds consists of 122 interpositive copies of the original photographs. Most of the images depict the Canol-Whitehorse winter road and Norman Wells. Also included are photographs of Arctic Red River, Aklavik, Fort Providence, Fort Smith and Fort Norman.

This fonds consists of 261 photographs (19 black and white slides; 242 colour slides) taken by Terry Garvin between 1954 and 1982. Many of the images were taken during Garvin's work as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer, although some were taken during trips he made after leaving the RCMP, including while working for the Arctic Pilot Project. Subjects include community views and buildings, scenic views, mines, people, Tlicho hand games, aircraft, and boats. Locations include but are not limited to Yellowknife, Behchoko, Arctic Bay, Grise Fiord, and Fort Smith.

This fonds consists of 1,207 photographs, including 852 predominantly black and white negatives and prints, and 355 colour slides.

The majority of the images were taken by Erik Watt between 1950 and 1995. These images fall into two broad groups: those that Erik Watt took during his career as a journalist in the 1950s and 1960s, and those Erik took primarily in the 1980s and 1990s while he was employed in various capacities. The majority of the 1950s-1960s photographs are black and white and show locations within the Northwest Territories, however, images from northern Alberta, northern Manitoba, and northern Quebec complement the overriding theme of Canada's north. A wide range of subject matter is represented in these photographs, including: DEW line operations; educational activities; views of northern communities and people from both the eastern and western arctic; Aboriginal reserves; mining operations; church work in the north; road construction; and special functions such as the official opening of public buildings. The 1980s-1990s photographs are colour slides and primarily document mine sites and infrastructure.

The remainder of the photographs were taken by Erik's father, Frederick Watt, and date between 1929-1933. These images include the first air mail flight to Aklavik, images of floatplanes and pilots, prospecting and staking activities and the establishment of the Cameron Bay settlement and mine. Some of these images were used in Frederick Watt's book "Great Bear: A Journey Remembered".

This fonds consists of copies of a number of presentations made by the participants of the 1990 Circumpolar Conference on Literacy. Included is a copy of the conference program and copies of the text for speeches by Stephen Kakfwi, Minister of Education and Leslie J. Limage of UNESCO.

This fonds consists of 86 black and white photographs (4x5 copy negs) copied from a photo album. The images have been arranged in the order of appearance in the original album, although not all of the prints were duplicated. The locations depicted include Fort Fitzgerald (Alberta), Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, Fort Providence, Pine Point, Hay River, Fort McPherson, Fort Norman, Wrigley, and Fort Simpson, as well as locations enroute. The images are primarily of settlements, campsites, missions, people, and various types of water transportation, such as stern wheelers, steamships, canoes, and scows. The fonds also contains images of the Norn family and one photograph of John Hornby.

This fonds consists of 26 black and white prints. The images show Chipewyan shelters in the Fort Resolution area, fox pelts hanging behind the Northern Traders post in Fort Resolution, the graves of John Hornby, Edgar Christian and Harold Adelard, a Dene summer camp on the Taltson River, Dene women with caribou tanning frame and caribou.

This fonds consists of material collected and created by the Metis Heritage Association and heritage material collected and created by the Metis Association/Metis Nation. The records are arranged in five series: Governance, Administration, Projects, Constituencies, and Related Organizations. The records include a certificate of incorporation, constitution and bylaws, meeting materials, correspondence, agreements and contracts, financial records, reports, oral histories and transcripts, gathered historical information and photographs, project proposals and photographs, books, and questionnaire and survey results.

This fonds consists of two audio reels and one audio cassette copy of a recording of presentations by Harvey Feit and Fikret Birkes. Harvey Feit, of McMaster University, discusses Cree traditional knowledge, and Fikret Birkes, of Brock University discusses traditional knowledge systems around the world.

This fonds consists of 3.6 meters of textual material, 328 photographs including 197 colour transparencies, 25 colour prints, 50 colour negatives, 4 black and white transparencies, 2 black and white glass slides and 50 black and white prints. As well, there are 18 architectural plans, blueprints, site plans and flow charts. Also included are four 16mm colour motion picture films. The majority of the textual material dates from 1944-1999 and includes monthly operational reports and reports from the President, underground operations, diamond drilling and treatment plant for Giant Yellowknife Mines Ltd. There are also meeting minutes, by-laws and constitution for the Giant Recreation Association and 10 Year Club, as well as menus and dinner invitations from 10 year club celebrations. In addition, there are copies of the Giant Mine newsletter Baker Creek News and photocopies of 34 annual reports for Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd. and one original annual report from 1947. The remaining textual material includes correspondence and monthly operational reports for the Salmita Mine, Taurcanis (Bulldog) Mine and Tundra Gold Mine. The architectural plans show buildings and mine site layout for Taurcanis Mine. There are also blueprints, site plans and milling flow sheets from Giant Mine. The photographs date from the 1950s to 1991 and include aerial views of Giant Mine, headframe buildings, tailings retreatment plant, tailings ponds, employees at work both above and underground, pouring of the 10,000 gold brick and safety awards. In addition, there are photographs of the Akaitcho Mine, Salmita Mine, Tundra Mine and Crestaurum Mine. There are also several black and white prints that were taken by George Hunter in the 1950s documenting activities at Giant Mine. The four colour 16mm motion picture films record mining, exploration and construction activities. Included is a film documenting construction at Giant Mine in 1946/47, a promotional film titled "Giant Mines Story 1954" which describes the mining and smelting process at Giant and life in Yellowknife, and two films documenting mining exploration camps.

This fonds consists of 391 colour slides taken by Dr. Sylvester Drabitt, 150 colour negatives that were copied from slides loaned to the NWT Archives by the donor, one videocassette and one audio cassette. Dr. Drabbit was a physician who traveled on medical trips in the eastern arctic. The images include views of people, scenery, flora, fauna, people living on the land, snow houses, medical staff and facilities, transportation methods such as dog teams and aircraft, living conditions, and images from a medical patrol on the ship, C.D. Howe. The videotape also contains scenes from the C.D. Howe and the audio cassette is entitled "Victory at Sea-Last Patrol of the C.D. Howe.

This fonds consists of 171 copy negatives of prints that were contained in photo albums. The images include: views of the Fort Providence mission buildings; class photographs; portraits of Oblate missionaries and Grey Nuns; general views of Fort Providence; and construction activities. The images were copied and the original albums were returned to the Grey Nuns.

This fonds consists of 34 photographs, one report from the Children's Aid Society of Yellowknife (1959) and two audio reels of an interview done by the NWT Archives with Mr. Richard Ross in 1984. The photographs were removed from an album that was put together by Mr. Ross for a display for the 50th anniversary session of the Mine Rescue. The audio reels contain an interview with Ross that includes a short biographical sketch, descriptions of the photographs in the album and some historical information on mining operations and Yellowknife.

This fonds consists of two DAT audio cassettes and 12 audio reels that constitute an incomplete collection of oral history interviews recorded in Gwich'in. Included among the people interviewed are: John Francis; Peter Thompson; John Vaneltsi; Andrew Koe; Charles Koe; Remmy Tsell; Otto Natse; Amos Nidichie; Abraham Francis; John Charlie; William Nerysoo; Johnny Kay (Kikavichick); Abraham Alexis; George Vittrekwa; Joe Natsi; Andrew Kunnizzie (Kunizzi); Peter Vittrekwa; Ronnie Pascal; Lazarus Sittitchinli; Ben Kunnizzie (Kunizzi); and Edward Snowshoe.

This fonds consists of 224 black and white photographs and 1 16mm film reel (original master) and 1 betacam SP videocassette (archival master). The photos were taken primarily in the Tree River area circa 1925. Images include Inuit, camps, ships, and buildings. Many of the images are unidentified; however, some are of people from the Tree River area. There are many images of boats such as the "Margaret A" and the "Aklavik." The film is of Wop May on Reid Island in the 1940s. Other photos, primarily of his son Raymer and daughter Patricia, were taken by Ross while at Holman and Read Island. These date from 1937 to the early 1940s.

This fonds consists of approximately 1600 photographs. The majority of the images are 35 mm black and white negatives, however there are some colour slides. The images feature people and scenes in Fort Simpson, Snowdrift, Fort Norman and Fort Franklin. Many of the images are portraits of Dene people. There is also a series of colour slides showing a caribou being butchered. The fonds also includes a number of images of the Dene National General Assembly, held in Fort Good Hope, from July 22 to July 30, 1980.

This fonds consists of photocopies of five statements of account for the Canalaska Trading Company (Limited) issued to Stephen Angulalik. The original items are dated July 30, 1938 and August 3, 1938. The statements list quantity, types and prices of materials purchased.
