Charlie's photo description: There, my chickens had grown up there. They are sitting right in
the middle 'cause they were pets. They were hand fed. That's up at the Liard before I moved
them down to town. This is when Fred and I had the little farm up there.

WDA's Comments, 2014 Feb 05: Charlie attempted to get a piece ofland in Fort Simpson for
his horses that he imported in 1936 but he was refused. However, he was able to get a lease on
50 acres on Peter's Prairie, a somewhat open area up the Liard River about two miles above Fort
Simpson. There, he and Fred (also Charlie's brother-in-law to be), as partners, attempted some
farming, these chickens being one example. Their efforts were soon abandoned and the 'farm'
only served as a source of some hay for the horses (see Charlie's interview for details).

WDA's Comments, 2014 Mar. 10: According to an article in Northern News Services (http://www.nnsl.com/frames/newspapers/2011-05/may12_11lin.html) Edwin was born 1929 Jun 16. In this photo he looks to be about 5-6 years old, thus placing this photo in the mid-1930s.

Milt Campbell's Audio Caption for photo: 33 & 34 are the same picture but there's a little more in one picture than the other. On the back of thirty-four there's a caption, "Junction Caribou and Flat Rivers".

WDA's Comments, 2013 Sep 11: The winter of 1934-35 Nazar Zinchuk and John the Russian trapped from the old Stark and Stevens cabin on Caribou River just upstream from Flat River.

WDA's Comments, 2013 Jul 10: The top end of the flume before its canvas was removed and with the bulkhead diverting the creek into the flume. Before they left, the bulkhead was dynamited out to allow Bennett Creek to return to its natural course in the hopes of keeping the flume intact for possible future work. They never came back.
