This accession consists of an aerial view of the Giant Yellowknife Gold Mine site and surrounding area.

This accession consists of two black and white large format photographic prints with backings: "N.W.T. Wrigley 1952. Laundry day with gasoline washer"; and, "N.W.T. Aklavik 1952. Bath Day at All Saints School".

Records include photographs showing uranium mining operations and equipment at Rayrock Mine. The images date from the summer of 1958 and were taken by George Hunter.

This fonds consists of 22 cm of text, 113 black and white and colour photographs, and 19 audiocassettes related to the life and activities of George Magrum, a noted barrenland trapper active in the Northwest Territories from the 1900s to the 1970s. The text includes diaries, correspondence, poetry, creative writing, and records related to trapping and prospecting. There are also 18 audiocassettes which appear to relate to Mr. Magrum's diaries. The photographs, which relate to trapping as well as his family, are both negatives and prints and do not appear to be copies of each other.

This fonds consists of three 16 mm films, sound recordings which are narrations for two of the films, 69 photographs and some correspondence. The films are about the following subjects: the topography, flora and fauna of the Thelon River area, Colville Lake and Victoria Island. The narration for the Colville Lake and Victoria Island films is on 4 audio cassettes, which were reformatted to DAT audio cassette in 1993. The 69 colour slides (a few are duplicates) document locations including Great Bear Lake, Colville Lake, Victoria Island and the Thelon Refuge. There are also images of Duncan Pryde, Father Bern Will Brown, and George Rysgaard. The accession also contains correspondence from Father Brown (Bern Will Brown) to George Rysgaard and correspondence with Dr. Breckenridge, concerning the 1970 trip to the Thelon River area. The correspondence includes lists of mammals and birds observed, and plant specimens collected.

This fonds consists of a diary written by G.H.U. Bayly during a canoe trip from Campbell Lake to Beverly Lake via the Thelon Game Sanctuary. All members of the party were experienced canoeists and some had completed trips in the Northwest Territories on previous occasions. One of the aims of the trip was to record via 16 mm movie camera and sound recorders the sights and sound of their experiences with particular emphasis on natural aspects of the route, including wildlife and terrain. Included in the details of the diary are weather reports, observations of wildlife, including caribou and various bird species, and observations on topography. The diary also contains photocopies of photographs of including members of the party, maps, and excerpts from appropriately related reading materials (i.e. re: John Hornby). Included at the end of the diary is an index, equipment list and list of temperatures.

Records are comprised of a diamond drill record dating from 1944-1945 for the Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd. claim. It appears that the work was done by Frobisher Explorations, a subsidiary of Ventures Ltd. who, in 1941, gained control of what would become the Giant Mine. The results were taken from the core samples drilled. Information tracked includes the location of the drill site in latitude and depth, the elevation of collar, the direction at start, start and completion dates (incomplete), and ultimate depth. Each entry provided the depth (feet), formation or makeup of the sample (including descriptive comments), the sample number, weight of the sample, and any assay information. Many of the forms have been initialled or signed, some by J.M. Bateway. Giant Mine went into production in 1948.

This fonds consists of 3.6 meters of textual material, 328 photographs including 197 colour transparencies, 25 colour prints, 50 colour negatives, 4 black and white transparencies, 2 black and white glass slides and 50 black and white prints. As well, there are 18 architectural plans, blueprints, site plans and flow charts. Also included are four 16mm colour motion picture films. The majority of the textual material dates from 1944-1999 and includes monthly operational reports and reports from the President, underground operations, diamond drilling and treatment plant for Giant Yellowknife Mines Ltd. There are also meeting minutes, by-laws and constitution for the Giant Recreation Association and 10 Year Club, as well as menus and dinner invitations from 10 year club celebrations. In addition, there are copies of the Giant Mine newsletter Baker Creek News and photocopies of 34 annual reports for Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd. and one original annual report from 1947. The remaining textual material includes correspondence and monthly operational reports for the Salmita Mine, Taurcanis (Bulldog) Mine and Tundra Gold Mine. The architectural plans show buildings and mine site layout for Taurcanis Mine. There are also blueprints, site plans and milling flow sheets from Giant Mine. The photographs date from the 1950s to 1991 and include aerial views of Giant Mine, headframe buildings, tailings retreatment plant, tailings ponds, employees at work both above and underground, pouring of the 10,000 gold brick and safety awards. In addition, there are photographs of the Akaitcho Mine, Salmita Mine, Tundra Mine and Crestaurum Mine. There are also several black and white prints that were taken by George Hunter in the 1950s documenting activities at Giant Mine. The four colour 16mm motion picture films record mining, exploration and construction activities. Included is a film documenting construction at Giant Mine in 1946/47, a promotional film titled "Giant Mines Story 1954" which describes the mining and smelting process at Giant and life in Yellowknife, and two films documenting mining exploration camps.

This fond consists of 1.3 meters of textual material, 472 photographs, 2 film reels, 3 audio reels and 3 DAT audiocassettes. The records were created by the Girl Guides of Canada, Yukon and Northwest Territories Council, the Northwest Territories Council, and Local Associations throughout the Northwest Territories that were affiliated to these two councils. The records, which date from 1936 to 1990, have been divided into four series: textual, photographs, moving images and sound recordings.

The textual records, which date from 1961 to 1990, include Minutes of Meetings (1972-1990), Reports (1961-1989), Newsletters (1966-1990), Regional Administration Files (1966-1982), Alphabetical File System (1965-1987), Northwest Territories Council Executive Correspondence (1967-1978), Northwest Territories Council Programme Files (1967-1989), Chronological Correspondence Files (1966-1984). Also included are some records generated by local district associations and divisions such as the Midnight Sun Division, the Keewatin Central Arctic Division, the Matonabbee District Council, the Slave Rapids District Council, the Eastern Arctic Division and the Yellowknife District Council. The records document the development of guiding programmes in the Northwest Territories. They also document the relationship between the Northwest Territories Council, the various Divisions and Local Associations in the Northwest Territories and the National Headquarters of the Girl Guides of Canada in Ottawa. Subjects include guiding programmes and activities in the north; trips to territorial, national and international camps by girls and leaders; and training programmes for guide leaders and guides, pathfinders and brownies. There is also information on the annual fund-raising event - the Girl Guide Cookie Week, and the operation of the Distribution Store located in Yellowknife.

The photographic records include 472 photographs many of which were located in community file folders and miscellaneous envelopes. The photographs document brownie and guide meetings, enrollment ceremonies, trips to national and international guiding events, guide camps in the Northwest Territories, Annual General Meetings of the Northwest Territories Council and training sessions for guide\brownie leaders. There are also a number of images of special events such as the 65th and 70th Anniversary Celebrations of the Girl Guides of Canada.

The fonds also includes two reels of 8 mm films taken in 1971 during a trip to Ottawa; 3 original master sound cassetes, 3 DAT audiocassettes and 3 audio reels which contain sound recordings that document the activities of guide and brownie packs, a training session and campfire for leaders, and an Inuktitut version of the Brownie law, promise and story. The sound recordings were produced at Pangnirtung, Fort McPherson, Broughton Island, Coppermine, Cape Dorset and Yellowknife.

The photographs were taken by Gladys Vear during her residency at Discovery Mine, Northwest Territories, between 1955-1968. Mrs. Vear was an active member of the Discovery Mines chapter of the Women's Institute, and she travelled to various arctic communities (Tuktoyaktuk and Coppermine) to speak with Aboriginal women and instruct them on electric sewing machines.

This accession consists of photographs relating to the 1932 search for Albert Johnson, the "Mad Trapper". The images include: Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) personnel - Sgt. R. F. Riddell, Sgt. Earl Hersey; Jack Bowen; Wop May; and Albert Johnson after death.

This accession consists of one audio reel that was made by the Glenbow Museum in April of 1980. It contains the reminiscences of Harry Clark who was involved in the grocery trade in northern Alberta and the NWT. At the time of the recording, Harry Clark was employed by the Western Grocers.

This fonds documents three generations of the Glick family over the course of the twentieth century: Jacob Isaac (J.I.) Glick and Sadie Glick, their son Harold Glick, his wife Zelda (Vinsky) Glick, and their children Leah, Murray, Jeffrey, and Marilyn Glick.

The records in Series 1-7 and 11 were predominantly created and maintained by Jacob Isaac Glick between 1925 and 1973. The records in Series 1 relate to his work as a fur trader and prospector in northern Ontario, his criminal trials and incarceration, and his military service during the Second World War. Series 2, 3, 4, 6, and 11 his postwar business activities in Yellowknife, including the Veterans Restaurant (Veterans Café), Central Real Estate, the Gold Range Hotel, Premier Electrical, Lizel Holdings, and La Gondola Restaurant. Series 5 and 7 document his personal and political activities and perspectives, including his membership in the Yellowknife Town Council and the Northwest Territories Progressive Conservative Association.

The records in Series 8-12 were predominantly created and maintained by J.I. Glick’s son Harold Glick between 1955 and 2007. They document local business activities including Yellowknife Radio Ltd, Williams Electronics, Lizel Holdings, the 50-50 mini mall, and mining interests, as well as travels and international trips taken by the Glick family through their work with YK Radio.

Records in Series 13-15 document the personal (non-business) life of the Glick family. The records in Series 13 document the personal life of the Glick family, including correspondence between family members and from friends and family across Canada and internationally. Records also include sound recordings made by family members in Montreal for J.I. Glick and Sadie Glick in Yellowknife, as well as recordings of an interview (oral history) with Harold Glick by his grandson Jeremy Glick in 2007. Series 14 includes extensive documentation of schooling in Yellowknife in the 1960s-1980s, including yearbooks and school newsletters distributed by Yellowknife Public School, William McDonald Junior High, St Patrick’s High School, and Sir John Franklin Territorial High School. Also included is some documentation of extracurricular activities of the Glick children from the 1960s-1980s. Series 15 contains a collection of souvenirs maintained by the Glick family, including programs and flyers from community, musical and sporting events held in Yellowknife, as well as NWT tourism guides, and souvenirs from trips abroad.

This accession consists of one VHS videocassette entitled God's Explorers, an examination of the role of missionaries, especially the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) in the development of the North. The documentary was produced by Susan Cardinal of Westmount Productions and executive produced by Tom Cox. Produced in 2001, it runs 95 minutes in length. Featured are Bishop Denis Croteau and Father Rene Fumoleau.

Records include two films, "They Fish the Great Slave" and "Dene Family". "They Fish the Great Slave" was produced in 1980 by Arctic Films; produced and directed by John Goldi and narrated by Mick Mallon. The subject of the film is commercial fishing on the Great Slave Lake, and features Clifford Bird, Johnny Nault, and Jane "Total" Mayo. "Dene Family" is a Goldi Productions Film from the Northern Lifestyle Series and was produced with the support of the NWT Department of Education and Canada Council Exploration in 1981. The film is narrated by Elizabeth Marlowe and depicts the lifestyle of the Marlowe family of Łutselk’e (Snowdrift).

This fonds consists of 1,261 colour slides, 110 black and white prints (originally contained in 7 albums and 2 folders), and 81 black and white negatives. Many of the images are of federal building projects that were undertaken in approximately 25 communities within the Northwest Territories. The collection documents construction of buildings during a period in which responsibilities for communities shifted from federal to territorial jurisdiction. Also included are portraits, images of Hudson's Bay Company buildings, Royal Canadian Mounted Police posts, Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line sites, churches and missions, scenery and wildflowers throughout the north and aerial photographs of the communities, including some in the Yukon and northern Quebec.

Records are comprised of the first issue (volume 1 number1) of a 1972 newsletter, "Think News", which was published by students and staff at the Gordon Robertson Education Centre. The newsletter contains items of news about students at the school. It also contains stories, letters to the editor, and some news pertaining to the community.

Accession consists of Northern Rental Housing Program Operations & Maintenance Costs from 1969 to 1972. There is also a Regional Income Analysis of Northwest Territories Fishing Lodges released by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in 1982. The accession also consists of Policing Agreements in the Northwest Territories dating from 1975. Additionally, there is a 1987 report of the Canada/USSR Arctic Science Exchange Programme documenting the visit by Soviet Delegation in 1987 with Ethnography and Education as the theme and Contemporary Social Change as the topic. There is also an Interdepartmental Committee on Federal-Territorial Financial Relations Report on the Northwest Territories from 1967.

All of the images are of government-built structures and sites such as residential buildings, hospitals, housing units, proposed school sites, a bridge, Federal Day School and various school buildings. The images are from Yellowknife, Fort Rae (Behchoko) and Jean Marie River areas throughout the 1950s.

Records include photographs of Inuvik during the period from the late 1950s to 1969. Depicted in the photographs is construction of Inuvik, people, and aerial views of Inuvik.

This fonds consists of 2 cm of textual material. The material relates to the day-to-day operations of the organization from its start in 1963, to 1966. Correspondence, financial statements, annual reports, applications for loans and assistance, and product information about the Co-operative are included. The material also includes a questionnaire asking about the living conditions in Fort Franklin [Deline], and a statement of the social and economic conditions found in Fort Franklin [Deline] at that time. Also includes a copy of the report "You Take the Lead…: The First Three Years of the First Indian Co-operative", published by the Co-op in 1966.

Records include sound recordings of interviews conducted as part of the Great Bear Lake Oral History Project in 1992. Topics discussed include settlement patterns around Great Bear Lake before Deline (Fort Franklin) was established, traditional place names in the Great Bear Lake area, the settlement of Deline (Fort Franklin), Slavey social life and customs, fishing, hunting and Slavey games. People interviewed included Jean Baptiste, Julie Baptiste, Madeline Baton, Paul Baton, Peter Baton, Madeline Bayha, Christine Cleary, Melanie Elemie, Margaret Kenny, Marie Therese (Sr.) Kenny, Bella Modeste, Camilla Takazo, Louie Taniton, Rosa Taniton, Francis Tatti, Cecile Tetso, Adeline Vital, Dora Vital and Johnny Vital. The interviews are in North Slavey; most recordings include introductions and summaries in English.
