WDA's Comments, 2014 Mar. 10: Anna could not remember the name of the person on the right but it is the Swede who was getting such terrible headaches that he drowned himself. The photo was taken down the Mackenzie River but Anna does not know where.

Dick Gutcher had a trading post near River Between Two Mountains from 1937-39 and Slim Jones had it from 1939 to 1963. (Ussher, Peter J. 1971. Fur Trade Posts of the Northwest Territories: 1870-1970. WDA's Comments, 2014 Feb 10: The Hearne Lake and Watson Lake were HBC tugs used to
push smaller loads on the Mackenzie and Liard Rivers. They were nearly identical and certainly
Charlie could not distinguish between the two in photos unless their name plates were
visible.They were also gasoline or diesel powered as opposed to the much better known and
larger wood burning Mackenzie and Distributor. The switch from wood to fossil fuels was also
accompanied by a switch from sternwheeler to propellor driven ships. Here the tug and its barge
are 'docked' at Fort Simpson.
