Charlie's photo description: 1 got that little tractor from Fort McMurray from a widow, named
Giguere. She had it sitting there doing nothing. Her husband died and Archie McMillan (pilot)
told me about it being there for sale, with a rubber-tired wagon and brakes. I bought the whole
thing fairly reasonable and I had it sent down there. That was fairly fast and that was when I was
a Chalmers Model B. We're sawing logs for the CPA house. They were building a house up on
the airport. There's still the ruins there. It wasn't looked after. Antoine Antoine [his real name] is
sitting on it. So we say Double Antoine or Old Double they say now. I can't really see who's
sitting on the wagon without a magnifying glass. But it's me way back there, the little fellow
with the hand out on the lever. Somebody's sitting in the little tractor. We're still using the little
tractor. That was the first set-up, before the D4. That's the first little tractor. That's where the
Army come and started to saw lumber with the power wagon and their weapons carrier. That was
around 1942.

WDA's Comments, 2014 Feb 11: Charlie's new Cat D4 is in the foreground at his second
sawmill location near Sawmill Creek. It had greater power than his Cat 15 and he was able to
buy it during WW II because the US Army at Fort Simpson needed more lumber than Charlie
was able to saw with the smaller machine. The officer in charge at Fort Simpson arranged for
Charlie to have a high enough priority to go to Edmonton and buy the D4 and the officer also
arranged to have it shipped in quickly. He really wanted the lumber.
