This accession consists of photographs of Yellowknife buildings and people. Included are images of Vera Clegg, Marion MacPhee, Father Gathy, Tom Doornbos, Dr. Stanton and Lil Bretzlaff. There are also images of Con Mine, Lakeview Coffee Shop and the Roman Catholic Church. The postcard has a note in French.
MacPhee, Marion, 1922-Records include photographs taken primarily during John A. MacRae's time with the RCMP in the Northwest Territories. The images include: (:0001) [John A. MacRae] in winter clothing; (:0002) John A. MacRae in standard RCMP uniform; (:0003) Henry A. Larsen and John A. MacRae by the St. Roch; (:0004 & :0005) Indigenous woman and child.
This accession consists of one map (no. 16) taken from the fourth volume of a six volume atlas compiled and published by Philippe van der Maelen in Brussels in 1827. The atlas is entitled "Atlas Universale de geographie, physique, politique, statistique et mineralogique sur l'echelle de 1/1641836 ou d'une ligne par 1900 toises". The lithographs were prepared by Henri Ode, also a member of the Royal Geographic Society of France. The map, which is entitled "Amer. Sep. Partie de la Nouvelle Bretagne No. 16", covers 60 to 66 degrees north and 98 to 114 degrees west. This covers the District of Keewatin and some of the District of Mackenzie - and includes Chesterfield Inlet, Baker Lake and Dubawnt Lake).

These maps were originally part of Volume V of van der Maelen's "Atlas Universal de Geographie" published in 1827. According to the Public Archives, each map includes the total cartographic knowledge of each area available in 1825.
Vandermaelen, PhilippeThis accession consists of one bound folding map with annotations, entitled "Map of the Northwest Territories", published by the government of Canada, Department of the Interior, National Resources Intelligence Service. The annotations consist of the locations for a variety of northern posts, including Hudson's Bay Company posts and outposts, R.C.M.P. posts, Northern Traders Limited posts, Reveillon Freres posts, Sabellum Trading Company posts and free trader posts.
This map shows the location of numerous mine sites and exploration sites within the western NWT. Mines indicated include: Rayrock, Beaulieu, Con-Rycon, Negus, Giant Yellowknife, Ptarmigan, Thompson-Lundmark, Mercury, Spinet, Colomac, Goldcrest, Tundra North Goldcraft, Discovery and Peg Tantalum.
The map appears to be one half of a larger map. It depicts northern Alberta, northern British Columbia and a portion of the western section of the Northwest Territories extending to the Arctic ocean (53 - 70 north and 103 - 128 west). Features included on the map are Great Slave Lake, Great Bear Lake a portion of the Mackenzie River and the Coronation gulf. A number of rivers, lakes, mountains, various other geographical features and communities including older communities such as Old Fort Providence, Old Fort Confidence, Old Fort Franklin, Old Fort Enterprise, Old Fort Reliance and Fort Anderson are identified on the map. Certain routes and trails such as winter portages and the routes of Hearne and Franklin are also depicted.
This accession consists primarily of photographs of the Con Mine site. Images include interiors and exteriors of buildings, personnel, and company planes.

Nicol, Marjorie OsborneThis fonds consists of approximately 8.2 meters of textual files and 3 videos from Justice Mark de Weerdt. Textual records include: personal and biographical information; files from his law practice in Yellowknife; files from the law practice of John Parker; files from his time as Judge on the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories including his “Daybook” files (outgoing correspondence); files on various subjects and cases of interest including aboriginal rights, equality and the law, and constitutional development in the Northwest Territories. The records also include copies of speeches delivered by Mark de Weerdt, files of personal correspondence between Mark de Weerdt and friends, family and colleagues. The fonds also includes a scrapbook of newspaper articles he published under the pen name Quintillian and 3 video tapes. The videos include a two part family history produced in 2000, and a celebration of life video on the life of Mark de Weerdt produced in 2003 2003 containing a series of still images of his life.

The remaining images document the same time period and events, but were not included in the scrapbook.
Davies, Mary EllenThis fonds consists of 291 photographs and 6.2 cm of textual material. There are images of Aklavik and the surrounding area, as well as images that document Mary Saich's trip to Tuktoyaktuk. In addition, there is one scrapbook compiled by Mary Saich; one notebook that includes historical and geographical notes on the Northwest Territories, her curriculum ideas and a manuscript entitled "A Year in Canada's North" which includes copies/originals of articles on the north and copies/originals of Mary Saich's correspondence with her parents.
Saich, MaryThis accession consists of one photograph of a plaque erected at Coppermine commemorating the first regular Masonic lodge meeting held north of the Arctic Circle on August 30, 1938. The plaque lists a number of officers including W.R. "Wop" May, H. Larsen, J.B. Tyrrell and A. Copland. These officers came from a number of different Freemason lodges but this was an official Ivanhoe Lodge meeting to initiate E.J. Walli of Eldorado Mines.
This accession consists of 17 cellulose nitrate negatives featuring various views in and around Yellowknife, including the old liquor store and Con Mine.
Tomasky, MattThis fonds consists of 122 interpositive copies of the original photographs. Most of the images depict the Canol-Whitehorse winter road and Norman Wells. Also included are photographs of Arctic Red River, Aklavik, Fort Providence, Fort Smith and Fort Norman.
Beauregard, MauriceRecords include photographs taken by Maxine Colbourne during her time as a teacher in Aklavik and Inuvik, documenting Christmas celebrations, domestic scenes, her students and classrooms, outdoor activities (picnics, boat rides, sledding), views of buildings in Aklavik and Inuvik, and social and cultural activities (curling, dances, festivals and parades). Many of the images feature children who were likely her students. Also included are photographs of Daniel Norris, a 1963 trip to Fairbanks, Alaska for a curling tournament, visits to Duck Lake Reserve (possibly Beardy's and Okemasis Cree Nation, Duck Lake, Saskatchewan) in 1961 and 1964, a visit to Yellowknife, photographs of her young sons, and photographs from her time teaching. The photographs also document her classroom and students at Lower Post Residential School in British Columbia in 1968.
Colbourne, MaxineBoth formats feature an interview with John Larson, a former employee at Con Mine, recorded by Tony Mayo in 1975. The interview was originally recorded on the audio cassette tape and later copied to audio reel for preservation purposes.

The majority of the photographs are of Frank and Grace McCall's time spent in the Mackenzie Delta (Aklavik - Reindeer Station) in the 1940s, Yellowknife (1940s - 1970s) and Ft. Smith in the (1950s and 1960s). The series of print photographs focussing on Yellowknife include images relating to transportation, recreation, mining, and scenery. Negus Mine, Con Mine, Jolliffe Island, the Wildcat Café, water taxis, floatplanes, and cat trains are featured, along with Yellowknife residents Tom Doornbos and John Anderson Thomson. The series of print photographs focussing on Aklavik include images relating to reindeer herding, transportation, and aerial photographs. A third series of print photographs, entitled Northern Miscellaneous, covers various subjects, including a trip Frank McCall took in his capacity as Regional Administrator to communities such as Banks Island, Holman Island, Coppermine (Kugluktuk), Spence Bay (Taloyoak) and Pelly Bay to talk to residents about a Resource Program. The two textual documents are programs for the official openings of the Yellowknife United Church in 1958 and Bristol Memorial Park in 1970.
McCall (family)This fonds consists of 22 black and white photographs that were originally part of the McCallum family album. The images include the Yellowknife Lumber Company sawmill, American soldiers from the Canol Road project, Norman Wells oil derricks, the "Porphyry" (ship) at the Fitzgerald-Smith portage and views of Fort Smith and Fort Resolution.
McCallum (family)This accession consists of a bound scrapbook containing reproductions of materials relating to early British arctic expeditions and explorers, ca. 1850s. The book contains items such as: photographs of paintings of Horatio Austin, Henry Kellet, James Clark, and Lt. Hobson; copies of textual material on medical practices and diet; copies of correspondence from Commander McClintock to James Ross; a copy plan of the "H.M.S. Intrepid"; drawings of sledge flags from Austin and Kellett expeditions; and hand bills for entertainment events aboard ship. [Nicolas Cole McClintock (1916-2001) was the grandson of Admiral Sir Francis Leopold McClintock, K.C.B., D.C.L., L.L.D., F.R.S., V.P.R.G.S.]
This accession consists of one letter addressed to Sir Leopold McClintock from C. Irmingen dated 11 April 1861 discussing Irmingen's treatise on the currents and ice drifts on the coast of Ireland.
The original audio cassette was copied to DAT circa 1988. The recording consists of an interview with K. Vaydik, a freelancer under contract with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Yellowknife. The discussion covered McDonald's early life, his activities as a geologist and prospector, travel to Yellowknife during the 1930s, a meeting with Jack Hornby, McDonald's opinion on developing a wilderness park at the east end of Great Slave Lake, trading posts, and his naturalist activities.
