This fonds consists 4.7 m of text, approximately 1972 photographs, 44 maps, 17 architectural drawings, and 6 audio cassettes relating to Robert R. (Bob) Janes' work in the Northwest Territories as an archaeologist, first Director of the Territorial Central Museum (later the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre or PWNHC), and Executive Director of the Science Institute of the Northwest Territories (SINT). The textual records include archaeological field notes and reports, papers and articles written and collected by Janes, reviews, correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, PWNHC building planning and operation files, newsletters, newspaper clippings, EXPO’86 planning files, and PWNHC and SINT publications. The photographs, maps, and architectural plans document archaeological work at Fort Alexander, Willow Lake, and Dealy Island, the construction, opening, and early operations of the PWNHC, the unveiling of the Sir John Ross plaque in Taloyoak (Spence Bay), and the research station at Iglulik (Igloolik). One plan shows preparations for the Northwest Territories pavilion at EXPO’86. The sound recordings include interviews and a recording of a church service for Janes’ ethnoarchaeological project at Willow Lake.

The fonds consists of 36 copy negatives of photographs taken between 1918-1848 in the Yellowknife area. The majority of the images were taken between 1930-1940 and depict buildings in Yellowknife, Con mine, floatplanes, people and the Great Bear Lake region.

This fonds consists of 28.5 cm of textual material including school attendance registers, year books and a copy of a school opening program. The attendance registers include a sampling of the Daily School Registers kept by Sir John Franklin High School between 1958 and 1967. These registers recorded student attendance, but also record a student's racial status, disc/treaty number and parent's names. The year books, entitled "Echo" include the folowing dates: 1972, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2005. The records also includes 'Voices of the Past, Visions for the Future: A Grand Opening Celebration', an official program dating from November 9, 2000. The event was used to mark the completion of the many upgrades and renovations made to the school.

Terrance Hunt fonds

This fonds consists of 368 colour slides taken by Dr. Hunt between 1948 and 1956. The images were taken in the communities he visited in his capacity as a dentist. Communities depicted include Aklavik, Fort Rae, Fort Resolution, Fort McPherson, Fort Simpson, Tuktoyaktuk, Wrigley, Fort Smith, Coppermine and Old Crow. The images depict residents and buildings in these communities. Buildings depicted include Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachments, Hudson's Bay Company posts, Anglican Churches and Roman Catholic Churches. The fonds also includes images of Gwich'in, Dogrib, Inuvialuit, and Slavey peoples. There are some images of Inuvialuit dancers and drummers. A number of images were taken in Dr. Hunt's dental office and include close-ups of his dental equipment. There are also a number of images of reindeer herding and reindeer corrals in the Mackenzie Delta, and a buffalo hunt in Wood Buffalo National Park.

This fonds consists of 597 col. slides. Slides feature Thomas Donnelly's travels throughout the Northwest Territories as a meteorologist. The communities highlighted in these slides include Yellowknife, Fort Smith, Inuvik, Fort Franklin (Délı̨nę), Lac La Martre (Whatı̀), Fort Good Hope, Norman Wells, Colville Lake, Rae (Behchokǫ̀), Cambridge Bay, Coppermine (Kugluktuk), Holman (Ulukhaktok), Hay River, Artic Red River (Tsiigetchic), and Fort Reliance.

The content of the slides features Donnelly's travels throughout the north but heavily favours aerial views of the Mackenzie River and surrounding communities, weather stations, airports, air and float planes, churches and significant events such as the construction of the Dempster Highway and the visit of Governor General Michener to the community of Holman (Ulukhaktok).

Photographs date from the 1930s, and depict views of the waterfront in Old Town, Yellowknife Drug Store, Canadian Bank of Commerce, paddle steamers, floatplanes, wreckage from a plane crash and the first gold brick poured in at Giant Mine in 1938. In addition, there are two prints of the Abasand Oil Ltd. Camp in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

This fonds contains .5 cm of textual material and 41 black and white prints taken by Wilfred H. Kennedy who lived in the north in the late 1930s. He worked on the boats travelling the Mackenzie River before moving to Yellowknife, where he was employed at Con Mine. The photographs depict Eldorado Mines, Great Bear Lake and Con Mine, Yellowknife. There are images of miners and other residents of Yellowknife, including the members of the first hockey team in the community. There are also photographs of some of the first buildings in the community. There is also a letter from Alex C. Mosher, and a number of newspaper clippings dating from 1938 which were annotated by Alex Mosher.

The majority of the photographs are black and white and date from the 1940s. A few of the images are colour and date from the 1960s and 1970s. The photographs were donated to the Society for duplication by a number of individuals. A number of the images were copied from high school yearbooks or newspapers. Some of the images may have been taken by Henry Busse. Subjects include Negus Mine, curling, hockey, dogsledding, horses, schoolchildren, views of 'Old Town' and the 'Rock', Ndilo, and 'New Town' images of the Yellowknife Inn, the Anglican Church, Yellowknife Public School (later William McDonald School) and housing developments.

The fonds consists of 2214 photographs (1232 black and white negatives, 982 colour negatives) created by both Gerry Reimann and Bob Wilson during the store’s operation. The photography is a mix of commissioned work, such as portrait or family photography, schools, businesses, organizations, or government work, and non-commissioned photography, such as community events or photography of YK Foto. Due to this, the commissioned work has multiple copyright holders, which are noted where appropriate.
