This accession consists of photographs of Yellowknife in 1947. Images include old town, Con Mine, and the oil depot on Jolliffe Island.

The photographs show mining activity at Gordon Lake in 1937. The photographs also depict life at Yellowknife in 1937 and 1938, including photographs of the Pacific Western Airlines float base, the airplanes and pilots there. One photograph of the Yellowknife PWA operation was taken in 1958.

This fonds consists of 12 purchase orders of the then named Eldorado Gold Mines Limited, dating from April 25 to November 23, 1939; and one manuscript, titled "The Eldorado Epidemiology Project Health Follow-Up of Eldorado Uranium Workers: Historical Description Appendices of Main Work Sites", Number 3, prepared for Eldorado Nuclear Limited, dated December 1982. The text is composed of four descriptions of events relating to Eldorado's history, by separate authors: E. H. (Ted) Nagle - "Gilbert Labine: Great Bear Lake 1929-30"; F. J. (Tiny) Peet - "Great Bear, Eldorado and Briefly Port Hope in the 1930s"; R. G. (Bob) Jenkins - "Port Radium and Beaverlodge"; and F. W. Melvanin - "The Port Hope Refinery." The 1939 purchase order book is annotated with the names of employees.

This fonds consists of personal and work related correspondence, staking agreements, certificates of work and mining licenses. Also included are records relating to business deals between Frank Morrison and Germaine Lafleur concerning mineral claims.

This fonds consists of 212 black and white and colour prints and negatives, 1 colour drawing, 9 postcards and 6 greeting cards taken or collected by Geddes Webster. The photographs date from 1944 to the early 1950s and most document mining sites and mining activities in the Yellowknife area. The gold mines depicted include: Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company, Ltd.; Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd.; Akaitcho Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd.; Crestaurum Gold Mines, Ltd.; Discovery Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd.; North Inca Gold Mines, Ltd.; Thompson-Lundmark Gold Mines, Ltd.; and Diversified Mining Interests (Canada), Ltd. Also included are photographs of Old Town and the new town site in Yellowknife, the archaeological site near Old Fort Reliance and Dene preparing hides at Lac La Martre. Most of the images were photographed by Webster, but are included is a series of George Radisics' photographs and an album that Carl Pielsticker compiled. The postcards consist of images of Yellowknife and the greeting cards show drawings of Yellowknife.

This accession consists of an aerial view of the Giant Yellowknife Gold Mine site and surrounding area.

Records include photographs showing uranium mining operations and equipment at Rayrock Mine. The images date from the summer of 1958 and were taken by George Hunter.

Records are comprised of a diamond drill record dating from 1944-1945 for the Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd. claim. It appears that the work was done by Frobisher Explorations, a subsidiary of Ventures Ltd. who, in 1941, gained control of what would become the Giant Mine. The results were taken from the core samples drilled. Information tracked includes the location of the drill site in latitude and depth, the elevation of collar, the direction at start, start and completion dates (incomplete), and ultimate depth. Each entry provided the depth (feet), formation or makeup of the sample (including descriptive comments), the sample number, weight of the sample, and any assay information. Many of the forms have been initialled or signed, some by J.M. Bateway. Giant Mine went into production in 1948.

This fonds consists of 3.6 meters of textual material, 328 photographs including 197 colour transparencies, 25 colour prints, 50 colour negatives, 4 black and white transparencies, 2 black and white glass slides and 50 black and white prints. As well, there are 18 architectural plans, blueprints, site plans and flow charts. Also included are four 16mm colour motion picture films. The majority of the textual material dates from 1944-1999 and includes monthly operational reports and reports from the President, underground operations, diamond drilling and treatment plant for Giant Yellowknife Mines Ltd. There are also meeting minutes, by-laws and constitution for the Giant Recreation Association and 10 Year Club, as well as menus and dinner invitations from 10 year club celebrations. In addition, there are copies of the Giant Mine newsletter Baker Creek News and photocopies of 34 annual reports for Giant Yellowknife Gold Mines, Ltd. and one original annual report from 1947. The remaining textual material includes correspondence and monthly operational reports for the Salmita Mine, Taurcanis (Bulldog) Mine and Tundra Gold Mine. The architectural plans show buildings and mine site layout for Taurcanis Mine. There are also blueprints, site plans and milling flow sheets from Giant Mine. The photographs date from the 1950s to 1991 and include aerial views of Giant Mine, headframe buildings, tailings retreatment plant, tailings ponds, employees at work both above and underground, pouring of the 10,000 gold brick and safety awards. In addition, there are photographs of the Akaitcho Mine, Salmita Mine, Tundra Mine and Crestaurum Mine. There are also several black and white prints that were taken by George Hunter in the 1950s documenting activities at Giant Mine. The four colour 16mm motion picture films record mining, exploration and construction activities. Included is a film documenting construction at Giant Mine in 1946/47, a promotional film titled "Giant Mines Story 1954" which describes the mining and smelting process at Giant and life in Yellowknife, and two films documenting mining exploration camps.

Records consist of a report on prospecting and mining operations in the Great Slave Lake area, which includes a number of adhered photographs. Also included are two shorter reports on prospecting and mining in the Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake regions, related correspondence, and seven plans noting mineral claims around the Great Slave Lake area.

This fonds consists of 65 cm of textual records relating to the administration of Hay River dating from 1931 to 1982. The records consist of mimeographed copies of typed minutes of meetings from the following: Local Board of Trustees of the Hay River Administrative District, from January 1952 to July 1953; the Council of the Municipal District of Hay River, from August 1953 to December 1963; and the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Hay River, from January 1964 to 1982. The material also includes by-laws, budgets, financial statements and reports. In addition, there are three bound ledger volumes. One volume is labeled "Motor Vehicle Opera[tors] Permits," but actually contains a daily record of water treatment, storage and consumption in Hay River between 1960 and 1971. The second volume is lettered "Applications for Mining Locations," and includes a listing of mining applications from 1931 and a listing of Land occupation permits for Hay River, 1946 to 1950. The third volume, lettered "Applications for Mining Locations - Northwest Territories and Yukon Branch," contains a listing of Land occupation permits for Hay River, 1944 to 1954. These ledgers would at one time have been controlled by the Northern Administration Branch of the federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. There are no minutes for 1969, 1971-1972, or 1974-1977.

This accession consists of six black and white photographs taken by Jack Horan in Yellowknife and one illustrated oversize newspaper insert from the "Edmonton Bulletin" entitled "Yellowknife! World's Largest Potential Gold Field". The photographs show miners, and the Con Mine site.

This fonds consists of 71 photographs, 47 colour slides, one photocopy of a map showing the settlement of Hay River in 1945, 6 original sketch maps of various other communities also from 1945, and one report entitled "Report on Physical Geography Study of the Western Arctic, 1947." The photographs show various communities across the north including, Hay River, Fort Smith, Fort Simpson, Fort Providence, Pine Point, Tulita, Inuvik, Aklavik, Port Radium, Rankin Inlet and Yellowknife. The photographs of Hay River show dwellings and tents; however, there are also images of the meteorological station, airfield and Hudson's Bay Company. The images of Yellowknife are primarily aerial images of the town, images of Old Town, residential areas and places of business. There are also photographs of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) barracks, Con Mine, Gordon Lake Mine, Negus Mine and commercial gardens. The photographs of Port Radium show the Eldorado uranium mine. Other photographs show pipeline activity at Inuvik. The slides are also mainly aerial images, and document communities throughout the NWT and Nunavut, including Yellowknife, Fort Smith, Fort Good Hope, Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Aklavik, Hay River and the Mackenzie river. Nunavut locations documented on slides include Cambridge Bay, Baffin Island, Mansel Island, Prince Charles Island, Boothia Peninsula and Arctic Bay. One colour slide is a picture of Tom Doornbos of Yellowknife, carrying his water pails. The report was generated from personal observations by Robinson during a visit to the western arctic in August of 1947. The majority of the report focuses on observations about Victoria Island, Prince of Wales Island, Somerset Island and the Boothia Peninsula; however, there are also notations concerning the topography from Yellowknife to Bathurst Inlet. The report includes a diary of the trip and contains discussions of the topography, mapping, geology, ice conditions, vegetation and animal life. The report was originally produced for the Federal Government, Lands and Development Services Branch, Northwest Territories and Yukon Services.

This fonds consists of 83 photographs primarily of Goldfields, Saskatchewan, Yellowknife and Gordon Lake. Images include the construction of Con Mine in Yellowknife and Camlaren Mines, Ltd. at Gordon Lake. Camp personnel are also featured. The photographs are arranged into four series: Goldfields, Saskatchewan; Yellowknife; Gordon Lake; and Miscellaneous.

This fonds consists of 83 photographs taken at Yellowknife and at the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd. (Con Mine) between 1938 and 1940. The images document some of the first buildings to be erected in Yellowknife and at the mine. A number of images depict miners working at Con Mine, including images taken underground at the mine site. In addition, there are photographs of miners' wives, images of the boats that carried freight into Yellowknife, including the "Hearne Lake" and the "Radium King," and images of Dene women and children waiting outside the first hospital in Yellowknife, which was located at Con Mine.

The black and white photographs date to the late 1930s and early 1940s and depict buildings and activities in Yellowknife and at the Con, Giant, and Ptarmigan mine sites. The colour photographs were taken in Yellowknife during a reunion trip in the 1980s and feature buildings in the Yellowknife area.

The majority of these images are fixed on the pages of a photo album. It would appear that the other prints have fallen out of, or been removed from the album. The images depict life in and around Yellowknife, and in particular document buildings, head frames and activities at the Negus Mine, including the fire at Negus. There are also photographs of Con Mine, Giant Mine and Rycon Mine. In addition, there are images of the Bluefish (Con Hydro) power plant, the installation and hauling of equipment to the Canol Project, the opening of Stanton Hospital, as well as images of Yellowknife residents such as Father Gathy, Gerry Murphy, Dr. Stanton, Mavis Riley (Kingston), and Dr. A.W. (Fred) Jolliffe. In addition, there are images of Jolliffe Island, Detah and Girvin’s Cafe. The bulk of the accession concerns the years 1946 and 1947.

This fonds consists of one photo album containing 102 prints and 53 loose prints taken by John Day. Many of the images depict Day's 1938 trip by boat from Athabasca to Yellowknife. Other images show Yellowknife in the late 1930s, Negus and Cominco camps and construction crews, mine sites and locations such as Fort Fitzgerald and Fort Smith.

This accession consists of materials collected by John Parker and includes: one photograph taken in 1964 by Reimann Studios with the caption "A group of Edmonton's Quarter Century Club at a testimonial dinner held at the Elks Hall, Yellowknife, NWT"; one time book and three daily journals from Bear Exploration and Radium Ltd. Operations at Contact Lake for the years 1936-1938. The journals contain information on the weather and activites at the mine. The journals for the years 1936 and 1937 contain daily activity reports on individual workers at the mine. The time book documents the hours logged by the workers and the pay rates for the years 1936-1939.

Records include photographs of workers and scenes from around the Thompson-Lundmark mine in operation.

The images depict many communities in the NWT, including Yellowknife, Rae (Behchoko), Fort Providence, Hay River, Fort Smith, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson, Norman Wells, Fort Norman (Tulita), Inuvik, Fort Good Hope, Colville Lake, and Wrigley. There are also images of other human impacts on the landscape, such as seismic lines, mine sites, and dams, as well as construction camps and industrial sites.

"Jack" Stevens, W. Leigh Brintnell, A. J. "Bert" Boxer, Gordon Ingraham, Henry Busse, George Pinsky, Arthur Umbach, Ernest Boffa, Norman W. Byrne, J. H. Sissons, J. Murray "Jock" McMeekan, and G. Gordon Latham.

This accession consists of a photocopy of an essay entered in the national essay contest "Know Your Heritage" on Norman W. Byrne (includes black and white photograph photocopies).

This accession consists of five diaries for the years 1932 to 1936 at the Eldorado Gold Mines Ltd. Labine Point, Great Bear Lake, NWT. The period of 1932 and 1933 resembles a ledger recording daily operations, personnel and duties. From 1934 to 1936 the nature of the diary changes and no longer records the personnel, duties, etc. and begins to record accounts of life at the mine, visitors, sicknesses and includes reports of accidents such as drownings and disappearances.

Records include a film shot in January 1987 to capture the last year of operation of Salmita mine. The film was produced and directed by Larry Campanas, who was employed at Salmita Mine as the Safety and Mine Resources Coordinator. The camera was operated by Wayne Bayrack. The film also features an original song performed by Jerry Snow.
