This fonds consists of 50.3 cm of textual records, 31 black and white photographs and negatives, 3 maps, and 1 architectural drawing. The textual material includes correspondence, minutes, annual reports, reports on the Territorial Museum, project files, archaeological site regulations, and files on toponymic activities. Included among the correspondence files are the records of the Chairman of the Board, Alexander Stevenson, and of the Permanent Secretary of the Board. The photographs consist of 3 photographs possibly intended to be used in a pamphlet, 16 black and white negatives of Dene women and Inuit camps, 2 prints and 1 duplicate negative of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sergeant Cook in Hay River and an image of Matt Berry, Val Patriarche, Jim Hall, and Ken Murray at Fort Rae in 1930. The images were collected by the NWT Historical Advisory Board as part of its mandate to acquire historical materials on behalf of the Government of the Northwest Territories. In addition, there are 9 photographs of Albert Faille's cabin, scow and warehouse at Fort Simpson. The pictures were taken on September 20, 1974 by Henry G. Cook for the Historical Advisory Board, as part of an inventory of Faille's effects. The architectural drawing shows the design for plaquing monuments and the three maps show areas of archaeological interest along the proposed Mackenzie Highway.

This fonds consists of approximately 1.6 meters of textual material from the Department of Public Works and Highways. The material from the Directorate Division includes files and records related to Commissioner's tours during the 1970s, departmental reorganization, departmental goals and objectives, capital assistance, lease and contracting policies, decentralization and privatization efforts and affirmative action policies. There are also reports from the regions and communities on Public Works projects, transfer of resposnibilities from Ottawa, transfer of responsibilites to hamlets, energy conservation projects, material related to the maintenance of public buildings such as schools, Dene and Metis land claim information, the Business Incentive Policy (BIP), the Capital Site Planning Committee, Senior Management Committee Minutes, Project Management seminars and material from conferences that took place across the Northwest Territories. The remaining material, generated by the Project Management Division, is dated between 1977-1986. Included in this material are correspondence, drawings, and specifications relating to the construction of the Northwest Territories Pavilion that was part of Expo '86.

This fonds consists of six meters and 11 cm of textual material dated between 1964-1981 generated by the Department of Economic Development. The records include files from the Central Registry filing system and are from the following series: Tourism-Development Series (61 block) includes files relating to Camps and Lodges; Industry and Commerce Series (62 block) includes files relating to the Rankin Inlet Cannery; Research and Evaluation series (64 Block) includes research files on various industries, economic and statistical information, reports, studies, proposals, and committee records. Administrative Series (68 block) includes files relating to Equipment; and the Loans and Grants Series (69 Block) contains files relating to the Eskimo Loan Fund. The fonds also includes approximately 10 centimeters of material dated [1973-1977] which includes a brochure on a development fund, 3 reports on NWT tourism and 3 reports on rotation work schedules in the NWT as well as 1 cm of material relating to wildlife enforcement.

This fonds includes records of the Metis Nation (formerly the Metis Association of the NWT) for the period 1974-2000. The records include 981.0 cm and 6.7 MB of textual records, 11 8" floppy disks, 9 maps, 2412 photographs, ca. 950 audio cassettes (partially processed), and ca. 200 video cassettes (partially processed). The records are divided into eight series: Governance, Locals, Chronos, Administration, Membership/Enumeration, Projects, Photographs, and Audio-Visual.

Yet to be processed: Audio recordings include 1800 audio cassettes of oral histories and recordings of the annual general assemblies. Videos include 200 VHS and Umatic format videocassettes with footage of annual general assembly as well as videos produced for the Metis Nation.

The records from the Corporate Service Division and Governance Council/Executive Services are comprised of minutes, agendas and reports from the Executive Committee, Management Group, Investment Committee, Legislative Review Committee, Audit Committee, Senior Management Committee, Leadership Committee, Major Stakeholders, Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Planning Committee, Northern Options Committee, Policy Review Committee and Operations Committee, and meetings with the Minister and Joint Ministers. Records also include some incoming and outgoing correspondence of the President and Minister Responsible, briefing notes, an Information Systems strategic plan for 2002-2004, and a file relating to the legal action taken by the families of workers who died in the 1992 Giant Mine explosion. In addition, there are records of meetings of the Board of Directors and its successor the Governance Council, as well as their subcommittees.

There are also records from the Policy, Planning & Evaluation and Communications & Information divisions, including communications strategies, program evaluation and organizational review files, action plans, Public Image Committee files, promotional materials, stakeholder relations plans, reports on proposed programs and assessment rates, copies of the "Reflections" publication, board directives, and correspondence regarding board appointments. There are also records regarding the planning and organization of events held by the Workers' Compensation Board to promote and educate the public on workplace safety. Records also include Corporate Plans (2004-2006, 2006-2008) and Annual Reports, which include an incomplete set of annual reports from the Workmen's Compensation Administration, the predecessor of the Workers' Compensation Board.

Records from the Legal Services division include files related to the Workers' Compensation Board Review Panel; legislative reviews of the Workers' Compensation Act, as well as its related ordinance and regulations; a WCB legislative proposal related to the Years Maximum Insurable Remuneration (YMIR); development of regulations for the Assessment Division; and files tracking Mine Health and Safety Act mandated inspector appointments. Records also relate to the Joint Mine Occupational Health and Safety Legislation Committee, the operation of the Renewable Resource Harvester Program, and the Operational Health and Safety amalgamation with WCB (1996). The records also include Board meeting minutes from November 17-20, 1992 on cassette tape and a ministerial discussion paper.

Records relating to the NWT Regional Operations Mine Inspector's office include mine inspector reports and incident/accident reports for mines in the Yellowknife area. There are eight brochures and pamphlets on programs and information from 1982-1984, covering information on workers' compensation for employees, employers and hunters and trappers; first aid training and a safety incentive program. There are copies of the Mine Rescue Review newsletter produced by the Workers' Compensation Board as well.

From the Prevention Services division, there are records regarding safety education and safety education program evaluation, as well as reports detailing divisional objectives, program evaluation files for the Safety Incentive and Rate Reduction Program (SIRR), and investigation reports on fatalities.

Records also include the results of a Client Services Delivery audit; review and evaluation of the SIRR (Safety Incentive Rate Reduction Program); a Final Report on the WCB by the Chief Commissioner; a report on injured workers that was prepared by Avery Cooper; strategic planning and corporate planning material; program reviews; a copy of an operational review of the WCB; records on the Workers' Compensation Board Safety Education program; policy issue and draft policy files; operational requirements and communication protocol for the Workers' Advisor; records on proposed and actual changes to the WCB as a result of division between Nunavut and the Northwest Territories; and records relating to the amalgamation of Occupational Health and Safety from the Department of Safety and Public Services with the WCB.

Records include photographs of the community of Tungsten. Most of the images depict the Cantung mining and milling operations; there are also images of the townsite.

The photographer of these images is unknown. They were produced by Bush Edit House and may have been taken by the firm's owner, Burt Bush, who was a film producer in North Vancouver and was often contracted by resource companies for their corporate presentations.

These records were created by Walter Slipchenko during his time as Chief of DIAND's Circumpolar Affairs Division, Director of Circumpolar Affairs with the GNWT, and as a consultant on circumpolar affairs, from 1977 to 1994. The records consist primarily of reports on GNWT engagement with circumpolar affairs, particularly with exchanges to the USSR and joint projects. Copies of the various cooperation agreements and photographs of some exchanges are also included.

This fonds consists of approximately 30 cm of textual material from the Arctic Public Legal Education and Information Society. The material dates from 1987-1996 and includes minutes of board meeting, minutes from the Annual General Meeting, annual budgets, auditor reports and staff reports about the activities of the organization. In addition, there is information about workshops and programs delivered by the organization.

This fonds contains photographs of a variety of northern communities, landmarks, activities and wildlife encountered by Terry Lines during his career as Game Officer and Superintendent of Fish and Wildlife between 1966 -1976. All photographs are colour, the mastercopies are slides.

This fonds contains photographs taken between 1973 -1975 during three distinct northern expeditions. Photographs taken from the first expedition, which took place in May 1973, documnent transport vehicles used by the team, sites and captured phenomenon related to Sherstone's glaciology work, and the townships of Fort Simpson, Norman Wells, and Inuvik. Photographs of the second expedition, taking place from May -June 1974, capture transport vehicles and other equipment used by Sherstone's team, notable homes and buildings in Yellowknife, Fort Good Hope, Fort Wrigley, Norman Wells, Tuktoyuktuk, Resolute Bay and Frobisher Bay [Iqaluit], and Sherstone's research sites and camp facilities during this expedition. Photographs of the third expedition occuring in May 1975 mainly feature aircrafts and landing sites, and natural phenomena viewed by Sherstone during this trip through Tuktoyuktuk and Norman Wells.

This fonds consists of one meter of records of board meetings from the Board of the Dehcho Divisional Education Council dating from 1990 through to 2002.

This fonds consists of 76 b&w print photographs taken by Frank Thomas Carter; five of the photos are hand coloured. The photos document Carter’s voyage to Norman Wells up the Mackenzie as well as the early stages of construction of the oil storage tanks at the Canol Project in Norman Wells during 1942-1943. The photos are numbered on the back in the order in which they appeared on album pages by the donor, Donald A. Davidson, Carter’s stepson. Overall themes include the Mackenzie River, construction, boats, camp life and the Canol project.

This fonds consists of records regarding the creation of the Yellowknife Health and Social Services Authority (YHSSA) as well as records generated by YHSSA during its existence.

Records from the Executive offices include files from Senior Management meetings, Public Board meetings and Special Board Meetings, as well as by-laws.

Records from the Finance and Administration division include planning files related to the creation of YHSSA, some generated by its predecessor, the Yellowknife Area Office of the Department of Health and Social Services. Also included is a file documenting public consultations in the Yellowknife area regarding departmental strategic planning.

Records from the Community Health division include publications, conference planning, educational materials, and presentations relating to public health programming.

This fonds consists of 83 b&w and coloured photographs documenting Merle's life in Yellowknife between 1947-1949. Subjects include Merle and her co-workers in their professional capacity as nurses, residents in Yellowknife and the surrounding area, and places in Yellowknife including the hospital, the Yellowknife Inn, and Yellowknife Public School.

Records also include files generated by intergovernmental committees and commissions and briefing notes drafted by the division. Records also document the division's review and disbursement of funding and including funding reviews and reports. Records also include the NWT Arts Strategic Plan, NWT Arts Logo Branding Program, Art and Fine Crafts Marketing Strategy Options, a program review of the NWT Community Future Development Corporation, operational guidelines and procedures for the Community Futures Program, reports relating to a trade show and business mission, records of the Agricultural Products Marketing Council (egg marketing), an MOU on contracting with the Gwich'in Tribal Council, an MOU on International business development, records relating to the Barren-ground caribou strategy, briefing material for the 2005 North American Fur & Fashion Exposition, GMVF Trappers Newsletters, as well as background information relating to an arts strategy and policy. Other records relate to the establishment of the Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC) and the history of the Business Incentive Program (BIP).

Records generated by the Policy, Legislation and Communications division consist of promotional material related to the promotion of sustainable opportunities in the energy, mines and petroleum resource industry and supporting industry, drafts of various newsletters, reports, booklets, brochures, sector profiles, website content, and fact sheets, communications plans, briefing notes, Visual Identity Guidelines for NWT Arts branding, and publicity records relating to the NWT's participation in Canada's Northern House at the 2010 Olympics. Records document regional promotional material and an overarching vision statement from the Minister. There are also records of the ITI Communications Committee, Senior Management Committee of the Department as kept by the division, 2005-2012, Executive Committee records from 2010-2012, Regional Superintendents Programs and Operations meeting records from 2006-2010, Deputy Ministers' Managing This Land Committee (2014-2015), Mackenzie Gas Project Joint Cabinet-AOC Pipeline Planning Committee (2002-2006) and Mackenzie Gas Project National Energy Board Proceedings weekly meetings from 2005-2007 and related records. There are also records from the division that document the development of and amendments to the Tourism Act, amendment of the Territorial Parks Act and regulations, amendment of the Co-operative Associations Act, repeal of the Credit Unions Act, amendment of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Act, the administration of the Agricultural Products Marketing Act, amendment of the Animals Running at Large regulations, and negotiation of various socio-economic and other agreements. Policy, Legislation and Communications records also include job action contingency plans, records relating to the use of the NWT Opportunities Fund, records relating to the establishment of the Saoyú-Ɂehdacho National Historic Site, and RWED restructuring records, such as meeting minutes, presentations, draft plans and agreements, and communication tools, and decisions papers presented to the FMB and Executive Council.

Records generated by the North Slave office consist of development of an arts and crafts strategy (co-lead with the Department of Education, Culture and Employment) and a file on territorial parks usage statistics.

Records generated by the Tourism and Parks division consist of NWT Tourism correspondence, membership lists, meeting minutes and conference materials, Conversion Study for NWT Tourism's 2005/2006 Campaign Year, and Northwest Territories Tourism Branding Logo Standards and Guidelines; conference calls minutes and correspondence between Tourism headquarters and regional tourism offices; Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee meeting minutes and agendas; survey results and consumer request cards; and a tourism promotion project called the Deh Cho Travel Connection, a participatory tourism strategy to promote travel throughout the Northwest Territories as well as northern Alberta and British Columbia via highways. Records also include background research prepared for a revision of the Travel and Tourism Act, the Tourism Development Handbook, "NWT Tourism Inventory and Gap Analysis" report, "A Performance and Operations Assessment of The Northwest Territories Outfitted Sport Fishing Industry", Parks System Plan drafts, NWT Territorial Parks Inventory, marketing strategy, and territorial parks usage reports. Records also relate to the development of the proposed Doi T’oh Park and to the Protected Area Strategy and its relationship to Parks.

Records generated by the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Division (formerly the Minerals, Oil and Gas Division) include agreements, meeting materials from the Pipeline Steering Committee, Mackenzie Gas Advisory Group, Economic and Employment Development Committee, Diamond Review Committee, and NWT Geoscience Office Joint Advisory Committee, and publications focusing on oil and gas, minerals, and mining.

Records generated by the Industrial Initiatives Division include material relating to the negotiation of a socio-economic agreement for the Mackenzie Gas Project.

Records generated by the Geoscience Office relate to outreach activities like prospector training and community mapping programs.

This fonds consists of 564 b&w and colour prints and 75 colour slides taken and collected by Mildred Young Hubbert while living in the Northwest Territories first as a schoolteacher, 1947-1950, and later as a school inspector in the late 1960s. The prints were originally part of photo albums created by then Mildred Young while a Yellowknife schoolteacher in the 1940s. The photographs include scenes from the schoolhouse on School Draw, students in classrooms, public health inoculations, blood donor clinics, Christmas pageants, and fashion shows. Photographs of Yellowknife include the construction of the Gerry Murphy Arena, the opening of the golf course, and scenes at the gold mines. A number of photographs were taken at Indian Village (Dettah), and feature Yellowknives Dene elders and youth. Photographs of the Kugluktuk (Coppermine) area identify Father Ebner and Inuit hunters. Many of the colour prints date from 1984 when Ms. Hubbert returned to Yellowknife for the city's fifty-year reunion celebration. The slides, taken in 1969, are of Fort Good Hope, and include photographs of school children and the community.

This fonds consists of 12 cm of original and published textual material, 41 black and white and colour photographs relating to the mine at Outpost Island and Slave Lake Gold Mines Ltd and one map. The original textual material includes handwritten and typewritten letters written by Archie Jamieson, his family, friends that worked at Outpost Island and J.J. Byrne. In addition, there are original proxy forms for the Slave Lake Gold Mines Shareholders Committee, a share certificate, and an envelope addressed to Archie Jamieson that is stamped Outpost Island Post Office, 1941. There is also a Report to Bondholders and Shareholders from Slave Lake Gold Mines Ltd., three blank proxy forms for the Slave Lake Gold Mines Ltd., as well as correspondence and a copy of a Supreme Court of Ontario ruling under the Companies Creditors Arrangement Act, 1933. In addition, there is some photocopied textual material consisting of published information about mineral development at Outpost Island, a diamond drill record, as well as copies of correspondence related to the operation of the mine The photographs date between the 1940s and 1990s and include both black and white and colour photographs, as well as 13 copy digital photographs. The photographs depict the Outpost Island mine site, staff and buildings including the mill, the boat used by employees to leave the site and former recreation centre. The map is of the Northwestern part of Canada and identifies the location of Outpost Island, and the distances from Outpost Island to Fort Resolution, Yellowknife and Edmonton.

This fonds consists of 2.4 cm of textual records (one bound volume and one folder), two reels of 16 mm movie film (a large reel of 1000 ft and a small reel of 400 ft) and 317 photographs and negatives (198 of the Western Arctic and 119 of the Eastern Arctic). Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Inspector Cyril N.K. “Nordie” Kirk used the bound volume to record events during his time aboard the Hudson Bay Company supply ship the RMS "Nascopie” during its Eastern Arctic tour, summaries of RCMP inspections in New Brunswick, and activities during the holiday season between 1944 and 1945. He wrote and received the correspondence between 1945 and 1946 while living in Aklavik as RCMP Officer in Charge (OC). The letters detail daily life in Aklavik for his southern correspondents. CNK Kirk shot the film between July of 1947 and July of 1948. The large reel contains both black and white and colour footage of Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers, buildings, patrol boats, airplanes and travel by dog team as well as footage of Aklavik, Tuktoyaktuk and Herschel Island. The small reel of film contains all colour footage of RCMP patrols by aircraft to Fort Norman (Tulita), Norman Wells, Camp Canol, as well as shots of Aklavik, including the All Saints Anglican Mission church, hospital and school, Aklavik residents cutting and hauling ice. In addition, there is footage of Leona E. Kirk, wife of Nordie Kirk, Henry Larsen, skipper of the St. Roch, Mike Zubko, Bruno Wiedeman, Charlie Smith, George Roberts, Knut Lang, Dave Sharon Jones, Jim Edwards (Jim Sittichinli), Caroline Moses, Jimmie Jones, Walter Jameson, Phoebe Poole, Louis Cardinal, and several RCMP officers such as Walter Evan Bayne, D.J. (Tiny) Martin, Arthur E. McKinnon, Alfred Kendi, David A. Coleman, Alexander Scotty Stewart. Included in the 317 black and white photographs, which includes 32 negatives, are 198 images depicting life in the Western Arctic from the perspective of RCMP OC Kirk, who was posted to Aklavik from 1945-1948. The images include the communities of Aklavik, Fort Good Hope, Fort Smith, Fort McPherson, Herschel Island, Tuktoyaktuk, Fort Norman (Tulita) and Reindeer Station, as well as aerial views of the Richardson Mountains and images of the Firth River. There are also images of RCMP patrols, the "Distributor", aircraft, RCMP buildings and the Kirk family. The remaining photographs depict Royal Canadian Mounted Police patrols of the Eastern Arctic aboard the RMS "Nascopie" in 1943 and 1944 and include images of Arctic Bay, Cape Smith, Chesterfield Inlet, Fort Ross, Churchill (Manitoba), Lake Harbour (Kimmirut), Pangnirtung, Pond Inlet, Clyde River, Southampton, Wolstenholme and images of the "Nascopie".

This fonds consists of 223 b&w and colour photographs and 0.2 cm of textual records. The majority of the photographs were taken by Paul Trudel while he was in Fort Smith and the surrounding area in the 1920s. Officials of the government, including J.A. McDougal, N.W. Champagne, and Gerry Murphy, are prominently featured. Other photographs taken at the Slave River, Pine Lake or in Wood Buffalo National Park relate to the recreation activities and picnics of colleagues' families. Some of the photographs were taken in Yellowknife and the surrounding area in the 1940s. These photographs include family snapshots as well as prominent Yellowknife families and individuals, including Dr. Oliver Stanton, Father Gathy and Bishop Breynat. Several of the photographs document Paul Trudel's day to day activities at the district's mining recorder's office on Latham Island in Yellowknife. The textual material includes letters, one recipe card, a colour photocopy of a 1928? Waterways train schedule, a colour photocopy of a map showing the communities of the Mackenzie River valley, memorabilia including scanned copies of two Christmas cards, an engagement announcement from Edmonton Journal, and editions of the Yellowknife Blade newspaper (annotated by Paul Trudel), Vol. 1, No.3 and Vol. 1, No. 4.

This fonds consists of twelve 60-minute audiocassettes, two (VHS) videocassettes, nine colour photographs and approximately 4 cm of textual material dated from 1992-1994 that were created as part of a project called Northern Women. The sound recordings are of interviews that Lyn Hancock conducted between September and November 1994 in the Deh Cho; the women interviewed include: Anna Lindberg, Mary Louise Norwegian, Mary Kraus and "Granny" Celine Lafferty. There is approximately 4 cm of textual material comprised of transcripts from the sound recordings and nine colour photographs taken by Lyn Hancock of the women interviewed. The transcript for Mary Kraus includes the 1994 interviews with Lyn Hancock and also includes rewritten transcripts from interviews with Kraus in 1972 that are part of N-1979-091 (Parks Canada fonds). There are also two transcripts from oral history interviews with Bella and Ted Trindell and with Adeline Hardisty that were part of sound recordings from G-1992-033. These transcripts were going to be used by Lyn Hancock as part of the "Northern Women" project. The videocassettes were recorded in 1992 and show Granny Celine Lafferty at the launching of the boat "MV Lafferty", a helicopter flight over Ram Plateau and Little Doctor Lake, and discussions with Mary Louise Norwegian in Fort Simpson. There may also be footage of Mary and Gus Kraus, Edwin Lindberg and Frank Schober.

This accession consists of one colour photograph of Father Rene Fumoleau, O.M.I. having an x-ray taken at Fort Good Hope.

Records include photographs taken by Monica MacDonald while she was a school teacher living in Fort Good Hope in 1959. The images depict daily life in the community in the springtime, showing housing and children at play. A number of the images show an aerial view of the community and surrounding scenery as seen from a helicopter.
