similar lighting and, thus, were all probably taken at the same time.

WDA's Comments, 2014 Feb 04: Loading the plane and seeing people off. The Roman
Catholic Church owned this Bellanca through RC Episcopal Corp. of the Mackenzie. Bishop
Gabriel Breynat of Foti Smith had a Waco ZQC-6 registered in his own name from Mar. 08,
1937 to Nov 18, 1939 (Ellis, J.R., Canadian Civil Aircraft Registry). The Bellanca 31-42
Pacemaker in this photo was owned by the RC Episcopal Corporation of the Mackenzie from
July 03, 1939 until August 23, 1940. In his book, (Flying Bishop, 50 years in the Canadian Far
North, Bums, 1955.) Breynat mentions both planes, but he seems not to have flown them
himself. He calls this plane Sancta Maria in the book but Santa Maria is the name painted on the
plane in the photo.
I am unable to identify anyone in this photo.
Milt Campbell's Audio Caption for photo: 16. Mrs. Whiteside formerly Fern Walker. Mrs. George and that's Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Whiteside's mother. Mrs. George wasn't too happy with that picture. I showed it to her here about a month ago. She said it couldn't be taken at the Butte.
Photographer: Milton J. Campbell
WDA's Comments, 2013 Sep 11: Milt always referred to Mr. George as Art but Mrs. George was always called Mrs. George, never Lodema. The Walkers and Whitesides built a cabin and lived for one year at Nahanni Butte before moving down the Liard.. The wood chips at the door suggest this might be their newly built 1934 Nahanni Butte cabin. If not, as indicated by Lodema, it has to be Walker's newly built (1935 or 1936) above Fort Simpson [61.688° N, 121.380° W].

WDA's Comments, 2014 Mar. 10: According to an article in Northern News Services (http://www.nnsl.com/frames/newspapers/2011-05/may12_11lin.html) Edwin was born 1929 Jun 16. In this photo he looks to be 10-12 years old, thus placing this photo in the late 1930s or early 1940s.

Caption on back of photo: "#16 - 1941. Work was carried out underneath this flume to a depth of 15 ft. The country rock; a fine grained crystalline metamorphosed limestone was worn to a slick smoothness with only hair thin cracks to retain gold & sediment. Alas, no fortune lay hidden but all our assessment work was done. Bill Clark"

WDA's Comments, 2013 Jul 10: Despite Clark's caption, the lack of snow and ice, but more importantly, the lack of an excavation beside the flume, both suggest that the flume has just been completed and that excavation of the pothole has yet to begin. The flume was a success in that it carried all of Bennett Creek's water despite heavy fall rains.
