This fonds consists of copies of 72 photographs taken by A.K. Miller between 1940 and 1942 and one audio reel containing an interview with Miller conducted by the NWT Archives in 1986. The photographs document Miller's trip from northern Alberta down the Slave and Mackenzie Rivers. The images depict a vareity of water transportation, such as the S.S. "Radium King," S.S. "Distributor," M.S. "Liard River," S.S. "Mackenzie River" and different barges. As well, there are several images of CANOL crews and construction, including African-American servicemen. There are also images of Canadian Pacific Airways aircraft, camps and dog teams. The interview contains biographical information on Miller and an explanation of river transportation in the north.

This fonds consists of recordings of the various sessions of the 13th annual conference of the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women. The original recordings are on 32 audio cassettes which have been copied to DAT audio tape.

This fonds consists of mimeographed copies of typed minutes from meetings of the following: Advisory Committee of the Local Improvement District of Fort Smith (November 1959 to March 1964); Council of the Corporation of the Village of Fort Smith (April 1964 to September 1966); Council of the Corporation of the Town of Fort Smith, (October 1966 to December 1966). In addition, there is a copy of a brief: "The Choice of a Capital for the Northwest Territories," dated November 1965.

This fonds consists of 12 purchase orders of the then named Eldorado Gold Mines Limited, dating from April 25 to November 23, 1939; and one manuscript, titled "The Eldorado Epidemiology Project Health Follow-Up of Eldorado Uranium Workers: Historical Description Appendices of Main Work Sites", Number 3, prepared for Eldorado Nuclear Limited, dated December 1982. The text is composed of four descriptions of events relating to Eldorado's history, by separate authors: E. H. (Ted) Nagle - "Gilbert Labine: Great Bear Lake 1929-30"; F. J. (Tiny) Peet - "Great Bear, Eldorado and Briefly Port Hope in the 1930s"; R. G. (Bob) Jenkins - "Port Radium and Beaverlodge"; and F. W. Melvanin - "The Port Hope Refinery." The 1939 purchase order book is annotated with the names of employees.

This fonds consists of 154 duplicates of slides belonging to Joan Ryan. The original slides date from 1957-1960 and mainly feature Whatì [Lac La Martre], although Behchokǫ̀ [Fort Rae], Fort Smith, and Sugluk are also represented. Images include people of Whatì, and activities such as butchering moose, skin and hide preparation, and drying meat and fish.

This fonds consists of 583 photographs, most of which depict images of the Kraus' daily activities and the visits of local residents and many travelers to their home, and a 16mm colour film. The pictures are from the Nahanni area and include views of the Kraus' residences at Kraus Hot Springs (now in Nahanni National Park) and Little Doctor Lake. There are also photographs of Darrell Pfeiffer sculpting busts of Gus and Mary Kraus.
The 16mm film, which is the original master and the Betacam copy, the archival master, depict pesonalities from the Nahanni Butte/Fort Simpson area in the early 1960s, including Gus and Mary Kraus, their son Mickey Kraus, Dick Turner, Father Posset and Albert Faille.

This fonds consists of three 16 mm films, sound recordings which are narrations for two of the films, 69 photographs and some correspondence. The films are about the following subjects: the topography, flora and fauna of the Thelon River area, Colville Lake and Victoria Island. The narration for the Colville Lake and Victoria Island films is on 4 audio cassettes, which were reformatted to DAT audio cassette in 1993. The 69 colour slides (a few are duplicates) document locations including Great Bear Lake, Colville Lake, Victoria Island and the Thelon Refuge. There are also images of Duncan Pryde, Father Bern Will Brown, and George Rysgaard. The accession also contains correspondence from Father Brown (Bern Will Brown) to George Rysgaard and correspondence with Dr. Breckenridge, concerning the 1970 trip to the Thelon River area. The correspondence includes lists of mammals and birds observed, and plant specimens collected.

This fonds consists of 41 copy negatives, most believed to date from the Days' 1907 to 1909 stay in Fort Simpson. Images are primarily of people, but St. David's church and mission in Fort Simpson are featured. Locations include Fort Simpson, Hay River and Fort Norman. Eight of the photographs were taken by Henry W. Jones, who was a professional photographer in Hay River.

The fonds consists of approximately 800 black and white prints and cellulose nitrate negatives. The images are contained in two photo albums and two corresponding negative albums. It also includes two file folders of photographs and a number of framed prints. The images depict Hudson's Bay Company buildings and personnel at Fort Collinson, Gjoa Haven and Tuktoyaktuk. The textual material consists of Charles Rowan's correspondence from his time at Fort Collinson, particularly concerning his use of "Barneys" Tobacco, a letter of reference from Bishop Fleming and two reports on traveling time in the arctic, particularly to and from Cambridge Bay. Furthermore, there are two notebooks that were used as "Eskimo-English" [Inuktitut-English] and "English-Eskimo" [English-Inuktitut] dictionaries. The material dates between 1935-1955.

This fonds consists of 36 cm of textual material generated by the workings of the Advisory Commission on the Development of Government in the Northwest Territories. The material includes abstracts of submissions to the Commission; abstracts of briefs to the Commission; verbatim reports of public hearings (six volumes); abstracts to volumes 1, 4, 5, and 6 of the verbatim reports of the public hearings; a specially prepared atlas of the Northwest Territories; descriptions of the settlements of the Northwest Territories (volumes 1 and 3 only); a reference paper prepared for the Commission, and one copy of the Commission's report to the Minister of Northern Affairs and National Resources. Other files are supplemental to the actual reports and consist of the actual submissions received from organizations and individuals.

This fonds consists of two DAT audiocassettes (archival masters) and one audio reel (original master). The recordings are of the 2nd Annual Drum Dance Festival held at the Coppermine school on December 25-26, 1955. David S. Wilson recorded the festival and provided an introduction and periodic commentary on the recordings.

This fonds consists of three letters written by Poole Field to Jack La Flair and one letter written to a member of the Geological Survey of Canada. The letters relate stories of the customs and beliefs of the Mountain Dene and Field's trips in the Nahanni region.

This fonds consists of 4 cm of textual material, 10 sound CDs, 8 DAT audio cassettes, 8 sound cassettes and 19 colour slides. The textual material is made up of transcripts of the interviews conducted by David Pelly for the Wager Bay Oral History Project, the final report for the Mount Pelly Territorial Park Oral History Project--Uvayok, and interviews from Sanikiluaq. The eight DAT audiocassettes contain copies of the sound cassette interviews with elders in Cambridge Bay that were undertaken for the Mount Pelly Territorial Park Project and ten compact discs contain interviews with elders in Sanikiluaq about the traditional knowledge of seals. Also included in this fonds are 19 colour slides of the people interviewed by David Pelly for the Wager Bay Oral History Project.

This fonds consists of 51 black and white nitrate negatives, 6 black and white original prints and 1 diary. The images relate to Robert A. Coutts work in the Great Bear Lake region between 1932 and 1934. Subjects include prospectors and prospecting, mining camps and methods of transportation. A number of images depict the first radium-silver veins that were exposed and worked near Radium City (later known as Port Radium). In addition, there is a diary written by Robert A. Coutts between July 22, 1932 and December 6, 1932. He made regular entries in the diary, usually daily or every second day. The diary contains detailed information on events that occurred and people that Coutts met, both on his trip to Great Bear Lake and while he worked in the region.

This fonds consists of 271 photographs in print, slide and negative formats, approximately 25 cm of textual material and two audiocassettes. The photographs document the people and communities that Beryl Gillespie visited while doing fieldwork as an anthropologist for the University of Iowa. There are also photographs documenting the Mooseskin Boat Project, which was conducted in 1981 in which Beryl Gillespie participated. In addition, there is a typewritten account documenting her participation in the Mooseskin Boat project. The bulk of the textual material consists of copies of Gillespie's field notes from Fort Norman, Detah, Yellowknife, Rae, Fort Norman and Fort Franklin between 1968-1972. The field notes contain observations and stories collected from many individuals and families in those communities. In addition, there are ten hardcover journals that contain transcripts of entries from Hudson's Bay Company journals. The original journals are housed at the Hudson's Bay Company Archives. There are also three journals that contain entries from the Roman Catholic Church at Riviere Courtre Jaune [Yellowknife River] and from the Fort Norman Mission. This material is comprised of genealogical information, as well as marriage, death and baptismal data, from the 1800s through the 1930s. Some of the information from the journals is written in French. The two audiocassettes appear to contain interviews with Gabriel Etchinele from 1972 and a story told by Fred Andrew on October 25, 1972 about the Ehbaotine and Mountain Indian Conflict.

This fonds consists of 127 photographs in print, glass plate and negative format. 111 negatives and 15 corresponding prints provide a pictorial record primarily of Jones' travels along the Mackenzie valley and north. Few are identified at this time although locations indicated include Fort Resolution, Fort Norman, Arctic Red River, Fort Good Hope, Coppermine and the environs of Yellowknife. The images include views of the "Distributor" (ship), traditional Dene and Inuit shelters, including snow houses, traditional Dene and Inuit clothing, dog teams, ice fishing, fish drying racks, oxen plowing and drawing logs, horse drawn carriages, hides being stretched, a Northern Trading Company store interior and a closeup of beadwork designs. In addition, there is a scenic view of the Mackenzie River.

This fonds consists of 35 photographs from C.W. Mathers' 1901 trip from Athabasca Landing to Fort McPherson. The fonds includes the album "The Far North," published in 1902, consisting of 28 plate reproductions of Mathers' photos and 7 additional black and white photographs depicting Dene, Inuit, the interior of the Fort Good Hope church, views of river travel, portaging, and skin lodges. Copy negatives were made for six of these images in 1992.

This fonds consists of 23 photographs, 7 cm of textual material and 1 cartoon-sketch of Wally Firth. The textual material includes one Hudson's Bay Company ledger listing financial transactions between 1901-1902 from the post at Fort McPherson, correspondence written by William Firth when he worked for the Hudson's Bay Company, a short biography of John Firth as well as newsletters and letters written by Wally Firth when he was a Member of Parliament. The photographic material consists of 26 photographic prints, predominantly copies made from cellulose nitrate negatives.

This fonds consists of 196 photographs in both print and negative format and 1 photographic reproduction of a map. The photographs were taken in Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska and Lapland and document reindeer herding activities. One of the images is a reproduction of a map of the Richardson Islands that Dr. Hadwen used in 1939. The images are the result of numerous trips to the circumpolar north during the 1920s and 1930s when he was studying the potential for reindeer herding for both the Canadian and United States governments. Traditional Yupik villages and clothing are also documented.

This fonds consists of approximately 8.5 cm of textual material and 8 photographs. The material is made up of five cookbooks and ledgers that were generated by the activities of the Daughters of the Midnight Sun, as well as correspondence, by-laws, membership lists, and loose recipes. The cookbooks were issued by the organization between 1941-1970. In addition to recipes, the cookbooks contain a brief history of the club, advertising, photographs and a list of the club's membership in January 1947 and in August 1955. One ledger that belonged to the Daughters of the Midnight Sun appears to date from June 17, 1968 until September 1969. The ledger includes receipts for the cookbooks issued in that year. Two other ledgers (financial statements) date from 1979 to 1985. The photograph was taken in 1971 and shows the Daughters of the Midnight Sun membership standing in front of the Capitol Theatre.

This fonds consists of 1 audio reel and 81 photographs. The sound recording contains an interview conducted in 1973 by John Davids with H. (Bertie) Hollick-Kenyon. Mr. Hollick-Kenyon was a pilot and during the interview discussed a variety of planes that he piloted and some of his flying experiences in western Canada and the north. Mr. Hollick-Kenyon was also involved in the MacAlpine Search. The images include various airplanes used in the north, aerial photographs including views of communities in the western arctic and people involved in the aviation industry in the north. The print, taken in 1962, is thought to be the last photograph showing Henry Busse before he died.

The fonds consists of records created by Claire Barnabe during her career as a teacher, hospitality worker, and settlement administrator in the Northwest Territories and includes personal correspondence, campaign material, interview transcripts, writings, 1970 autobiography, newspaper clippings, Port Burwell reports, correspondence, and history, Repulse Bay reports and correspondence, and Norman Wells correspondence and Settlement Council Minutes. The fonds also includes photographs of Fort Franklin (Deline), Fort Providence, Norman Wells, Hay River, Fort Good Hope, Arctic Red River (Tsiigehtchic), Aklavik, Cambridge Bay, Port Burwell, and Repulse Bay (Naujaat). The fonds has been divided into three series: Photographs, Personal, and Settlement records.

This fonds consists of 35.8 cm of textual records and one map from Thompson-Lundmark Gold Mines Limited. The textual records consist of financial records related to the operation of the mine, including invoices and receipts, a ledger, and a daily report of the mill operations. The map shows the Thompson-Lundmark claims.

This fonds consists of 20 cm of textual records and173 b&w photographs, prepared for the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys during 1960 to 1963. The reports include 'Settlement files' and 'Terrain and Site Analysis' on 19 separate settlements in the Canadian north, most in the Northwest Territories, but also one in the Yukon. The reports include black and white photographs illustrating buildings and physical setting. The Settlement files provide information under the headings of: location, structure, function and facilities, communications, population, resources, origin and history, toponymy, physical setting, climate, permafrost, freeze-up and break-up. The Terrain and Site Analysis reports provide information regarding location, geology, landforms, terrain conditions, soil, drainage, permafrost, vegetation, harbour and shore conditions, weather conditions, water supply, sewage and garbage disposal, sanitation, aircraft landing facilities, locations of buildings and roads, local labour, and fire safety. The fonds also includes a reference plan of Yellowknife settlement, revised up to 1958.

This fonds consists of mimeographed minutes and proceedings of the first and second meetings of the Council of the Episcopal District of Mackenzie. The meetings were presided over by Bishop Henry G. Cook.
