Knut Lang's trading post in Aklavik, 1956. Lang, also an early elected Territorial councillor, had another post in the delta, near its apex, known as Spaghetti Corners or Spaghetti Junction for the meals he served) where he lived in the winters. Well educated, Lang was self taught; each year he'd pick a topic - astronomy, physics, sometimes a religion - buy all the books he could get on the subject and spend the winter reading them. Hostel school at East Three [Inuvik], 1959. Originally, to placate Anglicans and RC's, whose Aklavik residential schools had to close down when government took over education, churches were allowed to operate hostels. Utilidor conveniently divided the playground and kept separate "congregations" apart at playtime.
