This fonds consists of approximately 74.33 meters of textual material, 218 colour photographs and slides, 11 posters, 1 Betacam videocassette, 2 VHS videocassettes, 84 microfiches of textual material, one 16 mm film, and 1 map created by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. The majority of the textual material is comprised of files from the Central Registry system. It also includes some records from regional offices.

The Directorate series (60 Block), dating from 1960-1993, includes policy files, organization and evaluation files training files, long range planning files, Economic Development Agreement (EDA) files, files related to the NWT Business Development Corporation and the NWT Business Credit Corporation, reports for headquarters and regional offices, base line studies, business development and impact studies; project files of significance to the Deputy Minister, speeches, records related to the reorganization of the Department, conference and committee files from the Business Development Committee and Intersettlement Trade Advisory Committee, community files that relate to economic development project proposals, settlement files, materials related to the Council of the Northwest Territories, Commissioners tours, and other organizations involved in economic development in the North, as well as files related to the Mackenzie Highway committee and the Mackenzie Pipeline initiative.

The Tourism and Parks Series (61 Block) dating from 1962 to 1998 includes records concerning the development of parks and the tourism industry in the North, such as administration, community consultation, promotion and marketing, research and development, feasibility studies and reports. The files include copies of the Explorer's Guide, records related to promotion efforts, visitor studies, camps, fishing and hunting lodges, as well as information and minutes from meetings for the NWT Hotels Association, Keewatin Tourism Committee, Northern Frontier Country Tourism Committee, Travel Industry Association, Big River Country Travel Association, Western Arctic Visitors Association, and the Arctic Coast Tourism Zone Association.The records concerning parks development date from 1970 to 1996 and relate to the development of signage, historic sites and tours, interpretive displays, visitor's centres, exhibits and general park and campground development, including infrastructure. The files contain reports of consultants, contracts, and negotiations with stakeholders such as communities and tour operators. The files are organized by individual park or project. There is also a file describing the department's involvement with Hanging Ice Bison Ranch. There are also two 1992 videos promoting the Thelon and Kazan Rivers as canoeing destinations.

The Economic and Industrial Series/Industry and Commerce Series (62 Block) dating from 1960-1987, includes files relating to Cooperatives, Arts and Crafts, Business Development, the Economic Development Agreement (EDA), the Canada - NWT Oil and Gas, Minerals Accord from the early 1990s. Foods, Settlements, Project Operations, Companies, Forestry, Marketing, Agricultural and Industrial Development-Financial Planning.

The Employment Series (67 Block), dating from 1969-1983, includes committee records, community employment files, liaison with local industry files, liaison with other government agencies, local initiatives program files, Inuit relocation files, apprenticeship program files, Manpower Needs Committee files, Employment of Native Northerners files, training programme files, and monthly reports by region.

The Administration Series (68 Block), dating from 1978 includes material related to a Regional Superintendent's Conference.

There are also records from the Loans and Grants Series (69 Block), dating from 1967-1986 and include files relating to the Small Business Loan Fund, Eskimo Loan Fund, Indian Loan fund, Assistance to Fisherman Policy and Correspondence, Tourism Development Grants and Promotion Grants.

The records for the Fort Smith/South Slave Regional Office include Tourism Marketing Program Summary Package, Consumer & Travel Trade Show Staff Attendance manual, Division of the Northwest Territories Implementation Plan, records of the Regional Coordinating Committee for Fort Smith and the Senior Management Committee of Economic Development and Tourism, Tourism Marketing Services program records, reports, and correspondence. Other records document participation in the Tourism Training Group, NWT Arctic Tourism, and Deh Cho/Mackenzie Connection. There are also records relating to departmental logo and slogan, and reorganization and business planning.

Also included in the textual material is a ledger recording fur sales between 1939-1969, a list of trading posts and outpost licenses that were issued in the Northwest Territories between 1962-1977, correspondence and applications for funding for economic development projects within the Northwest Territories, such as the Eskimo Dog Research Foundation and material relating to federal employment initiative programs, such as the Subsidized Term Employment Program (STEP). There is a series of reports and papers from the Planning and Resources Development Division concerning the development of renewable resources, such as northern minerals and oil, marketing plans and economic prospects for the NWT, the Cooperative (Co-op) movement and the Small Business Loan fund. In addition to reports and studies, there is policy material from this division, as well as committee files from the Resource Development Committee, Committee on Incentives for the Development of Remote Regions, Technical Committee of the Water Board, Transportation Standing Committee, Environmental Review Committee and the Norman Wells Impact Task Force. There is also promotional material, an Explorers' Map, and tourism industry booklets produced by the Department, TravelArctic and other arms-length agencies. Additional records include Heritage River studies and reports and a feasibility study on a wild game processing plant. There is also a series of reports relating to fisheries from the 1990s.

The photographs depict a Dene and Inuit arts and crafts display, as well as images of traditional Dene and Inuit games, which were exhibited during the 1976 Montreal Olympics. In addition, there are photographs of festivities that took place in Resolute to celebrate the establishment of Ellesmere Island National Park. In addition, there are slides generated by the Arts and Crafts program that depict beadwork, clothing quillwork and arts and crafts production within several communities in the Northwest Territories. The Betacam videocassette is a production entitled "Dene Arts and Crafts", which was produced by Swan Productions in conjunction with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

The G-2007-025 accession consists of approximately 30 cm of reports, brochures and other textual material. The material mainly consists of policy guides, published reports and brochures. Topics range from tourism development, region economic studies, how to start your own business, venture capital grants, information on co-operatives, and information on trades. Notably this accession includes a guide on how to properly format the blue on white polar bear NWT logo for printing on promotional material.

This fonds consists of approximately 5 meters of textual material; 143 black and white photographs; 4 architectural drawings; and 1 video produced or accumulated by Cominco Ltd. (formerly Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada, Ltd.) between 1936 and 1985. The records relate to Con mine operations in Yellowknife and the Pine Point Mine operations of the former community of Pine Point, Northwest Territories. The bulk of textual materials are business records which have been divided in 14 series and include general administration records, personnel records, legal records, financial records, records of development at Pine Point, records from the office of the mine superintendent, records from the office of the mine engineer, records from the office of the geologist, health and safety records, and the records of the Con Athletic Association. There are also documents such as mill logbooks, radiograms, amalgamation reports, and assay test data statistics. Also included are personal files of A.J. Richardson, Mine Superintendent in the early 1970s; notes, correspondence, and reports concerning the planning and construction of the Robertson shaft at Con Mine; and a copy of the agreement between the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada and the Bennett and White Construction company to build a hydroelectric power plant. This contract contains photographs, topographical plans, and a map of the proposed site. In addition, there are architectural style drawings of the proposed plant. This fonds also contains a full run of the employee newsletter North of Sitxy/North of 60, which was published by the company between 1977-1985.

Other photographic material in this fonds is composed of one photo album entitled "Pine Point Progress" containing 65 images of construction at the Pine Point Mine site and one album of 70 photographs from a 1950 report produced by the Northern Transportation Company on operating conditions and areas serviced. An additional 8 photographs feature the Con mine campsite in 1936-1937.

Also included in this fonds is a diagram that had been presented to the Commissioner of the Northwest Territories, S.M. Hodgson, of the first diamond drill exploration hole, sunk by Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd., in March of 1937.

This fonds consists of 24 black and white photographs, approximately 5 cm of textual material, one illustration and 2 handbills generated by the federal Department of Mines and Resources, dating from 1937 to 1950. The records include of a compilation of 18 reports, dated 1948 to 1950, on forestry and wildlife management in Wood Buffalo National Park and the southern and northern Mackenzie Districts. These reports focused on a variety of issues including: numbers and locations of forest fires; the transfer and introduction of various animal species such as beaver, elk and marten; fishing operations and fish levels; buffalo hunts; and the general status of forests and wildlife in these regions. The reports contain 24 black and white photographs and 1 drawing documenting the transfer of beaver and elk to Wood Buffalo Park. Other records include telegrams and correspondence concerning the construction of a landing strip at Wrigley in 1938 and 2 oversize cloth public notices. One warns of the dangers of forest fires; the text is in Tłįchǫ and written in syllabics. The second identifies a hunting and trapping preserve for Indigenous people. An annotation on the front indicates that the Royal Canadian Mounted Policed (RCMP) schooner "St. Roch" may have located this notice in 1944. On the back there is an annotation: "Robert G. Fulton and Gerald Klondike Helicopters on Board M.V. Theta [1931?] Calgary Alberta." In addition, there is a RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) Bulletin entitled "A Brief Outline of the History, Customs and Laws Relating to the Indians and Eskimos of the Canadian Arctic and Sub-Arctic" which was produced by the Department of Mines and Resources -- bulletin uses outdated language to refer to the Dene and Inuit. There is also a pamphlet of general information about Yellowknife.

This fonds consists of 2731 colour photographs in slide and print formats, 6 audio reels, 75 film reels, 10 umatic videocassettes, approximately 1.14 meters of textual material, 8 microfilm reels and 15 posters. The photographs depict communities throughout the Northwest Territories, indigenous animals, landmarks, Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line sites, Anglican and Catholic Missions, schools, Dene and Inuit peoples and landscapes. In addition, there are images of the 1978 Arctic Winter Games, Commissioner Hodgson's tour of the Northwest Territories in 1969 and photographs documenting the construction of a mooseskin boat at Fort Norman and the Keele River Camp in 1981. The textual material consists of a report on the Commissioner's Tours of the Upper Mackenzie, Nahanni and Liard River Area, Central Arctic and Western Arctic between 1969-1970, as well as a journal kept by Beryl Gillespie documenting the construction of the Mooseskin Boat Project that took place in 1981. The bulk of the textual material consists of files from the Central Registry and were from the following Central Registry blocks: Policy (11-000); Settlements (11-004); Tours (11-005); Publications (11-006) and Communications (11-012). There is also approximately 5.5 cm of newsletters, brochures and booklets on varied topics such as translation services, the NWT visual identity program, regional information (mostly the Keewatin region), an Analysis of the Dene Language Information Review, the Dene and Inuit Traditional Life Series, and 6 years of weekly Territorial bulletins (incomplete). The microfilm reels contain files from the Central Registry dated between 1970-1973 from the following program areas: Policy, Settlements, Publications, Public Relations and Miscellaneous (11 block) and from Conferences and Administration (13 block). There are also 10 umatic videocassettes and 19 film reels that document the Mooseskin Boat Project. The remaining 57 films (16 mm) document events in the Northwest Territories, such as the Commissioner's Tour of the Northwest Territories in 1969-1970, the 1970 Arctic Winter Games, Caribou Carnival in Yellowknife, Camp Unity and a CBC production about whaling in the north. The five sound reels provide audio for some of these films. The remaining material consists of 15 posters that represent images of the Northwest Territories, including wildlife and northern residents in both the Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions.

This fonds consists of approximately 3280 photographs in both slide and print format, 18 audiocassettes, 1 audio reel, which was copied to 1 sound CD, 6 cm of text and 2 film reels in 8 mm format. The records document Frank Gonda's life in various northern communities. The cassette recordings appear to be interviews with elders or carvers from Pelly Bay. The textual files document Gonda's attempts to create curriculum for art to be used in schools in the Northwest Territories and his efforts to obtain a Masters degree from the University of Alberta.

This fonds consists of 2.7 metres of textual records, comprised of administrative and operational files from the NWT Chamber of Mines, two 16 mm film reels, one Betacam videocassette, one DVD, and one audio cassette.

Included in the textual records are documents and reports on the Baker Lake court case and land claims issues; mineral policies, speeches, documents from Mining Week and the annual Geoscience Forums; regulations, licenses, membership lists, public relations, correspondence, reports from committees, Mine Safety Act documents; meeting agendas and minutes from 1967-1993. Also included are minutes and reports from the Northern Mineral Advisory Committee, which advocated issues in northern mining to the federal Department of Indian and Northern Affairs. Several NWT Chamber of Mines members and executive played a role in NMAC.

The moving images include two 16 mm film reels, consisting of home videos of unknown provenance. They appear to be home movies of a mine worker in Yellowknife, [1948-1949], given the title "Yellowknife Life." This fonds also includes two promotional videos produced by the Chamber: one on Betamax videocassette entitled "Mine Your Business" (a career video for youth) and one DVD entitled "Mining Now" (a northern mining promotional video).

The audiocassette consists of a recording of Cyril John Baker.

This fonds consists of approximately 51.72 meters of textual material, 18 photographs, 24 drawings, 46 posters, 14 maps, 4 audio reels, 14 audio cassettes, 5 sound CDs, three 16 mm film reels and approximately 395 videocassettes in Betamax and Umatic format.

The textual material created and/or managed by the Directorate of the Department of Renewable Resources between 1974-1993, include correspondence of the Minister, Deputy Minister and Assistant Deputy. In addition, there are divisional reports, minutes of meetings, briefing notes, decision papers, Land Use Planning records, Management Steering Committee records, copies of submissions to environmental review boards and copies of agreements between the Federal Government and the GNWT. There is also a copy of an operational review of the department that was conducted between 1990-1991, a subsequent report and appendices of a departmental organizational review, and files related to enforcement issues and development of hunting regulations in the Liard/Mackenzie Corridor. Additionally, there are three files from the department library that relate to forestry and game officers from 1950-1969.

The records from the Finance and Administration Division consist of files relating to Departmental Organization and Priorities. These records are dated between 1984-1986.

The records from the Policy and Planning Division relates to Departmental reviews and responses, an overall Government of the Northwest Territories Functional Inventory, and participation on the interdepartmental Working Group on Mining and Infrastructure in the Slave Geological Province.

The records from the Yellowknife Division relate to amendments to the operational manual, regulations, and legislation.

The fonds also contains records relating to the transfer (devolution) forestry and fire management from the federal government, including correspondence, work plans, asset inventories, organizational charts, job descriptions, and meeting minutes.

The fonds also includes records relating to forest management, including the 1987 Forest Resources Transfer Agreement, “Forests for Tomorrow: Forest Management in the Northwest Territories A Public Policy Discussion Paper” and related feedback, timber licensing and inspection, forest utilization, timber export, integrated resource management (Liard/Nahanni Valley), and forest fire response, including protection of communities.

The fonds also includes general records relating to trapping, seal hunting and marketing, the Furbearer Management Program, compensation, incentive and income support programs, trap exchange, and the Natural Resources Conservation Trust Fund (NRCTF).

The textual material from the Wildlife Services Division consists of several oversize ledgers documenting Hunting and Trapping Reports and Fur Export Tax Reports from across the Northwest Territories. There are also general correspondence files, minutes of meetings, memorandums, strategic planning, and policies relating to the division's activities, programs and workshops delivered and files relating to the transfer of responsibilities for forestry and fire management from the federal government to the Government of the Northwest Territories. In addition there are records dealing with wildlife regulations, enforcement, devolution of land and water, and outfitting, individual trapping records, harvest reports, outfitter harvest statistics, reports on the monitoring of different wildlife species, Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) files, human resources files, Game Office files, caribou and moose surveys, fisheries data, fur dealers records, registered trapping areas, Trappers Association records, export permits, trappers assistance records, organized hunts, buffalo/caribou hunter data, trapper and hunter kill statistics, General Hunting Licence statistics and non-resident eligibility lists, anthrax control and emergency response planning, humane trapping, community freezers and bison ranching. There are also annual reports for the division, 1990-1992.

There are also files that were created by the Forest and Wildlife office in Rae and Fort Smith. This material contains Robert Douglas' monthly patrol reports and correspondence from between 1951-1955. The reports include summaries of the warden's duties, weather reports, wildlife observations, hunting, trapping and fishing activities, lists of game taken and licenses issued, as well as the monitoring of animal species, particularly caribou. The remaining material from Fort Smith dates between 1987-1996 and contains files relating to Administration, Personnel, Policy and Directives, Finance and Budget, Training, Lands and Properties, Associations, Committees and Boards, Indigenous Organizations, Wildlife and Habitat Management, Research and Field Studies, Resource Development, Fisheries and Forestry Legislation and Enforcement, Licenses and Permits, Conservation Education and Pollution Control. In addition, there are approximately 35 maps from this division that concern animal trapping in the Northwest Territories.

The textual material from the Pollution Control Division dates between 1975 - 1991. The records consist of air quality reports, water quality reports, and information about solid waste management, hazardous waste management, waste oil, chemical disposal, anti-litter campaign, and minutes from the Pollution Control Division meetings and Yellowknife Anti-Litter Committee meetings. The records also include a copy of the "Truth North" #2 comic book.

The material generated or managed by the Field Services Division between 1961-1986, consists of correspondence, minutes from Regional Superintendents and Regional Hunters and Trappers Associations meetings, field project reports, reports from regional and community wildlife officers, fur records, forms and reference material kept by the division. The records relate to a variety of activities such as: hunting, trapping, enforcement of regulations, animal studies, fisheries, training and organizational structure. Reports from the five administrative regions of the Government of the Northwest Territories (Fort Smith, Inuvik, Keewatin, Baffin and the Kitikmeot, which was once part of the Fort Smith region) have been kept in an effort to document regional activities and responses.

The records from the Environmental Planning and Assessment Division date from 1971 to 1991 and consist of land use planning evaluations, correspondence, policies, minutes of meetings, social impact studies and records relating to water management and planning, Inter-jurisdictional Water Negotiations and Environmental Impact-Assessment of Oil/Gas and Mineral Exploration.

The three 16 mm film reels contain two films produced by the Department of Renewable Resources in conjunction with the Department of Culture and Communication. The first film is entitled "Koukdjuak Crossing: Caribou Tagging on Baffin Island." The film is available in English and Inuktitut. The second film, "Two Have Forever: Hunting the Bathurst Caribou Herd" was produced in 1986; it illustrates the importance of the Bathurst herd to the Inuit, Dene and non-Indigenous people. This film is available in English and Innuiaqtun. The accession containing approximately 395 videocassettes was produced by or for the Conservation Education and Resource Development Division of the Department of Renewable Resources. The videocassettes contain informational programming about wildlife management, trapping, fur handling, oil spill containment, hunting safety, firearm safety, information about Renewable Resources officers and projects, land use planning and wildlife conservation.

Part of the fonds is comprised of a series of posters produced the department for the annual National Wildlife Week Poster Contest; another series warns of the dangers of bears; a third series relates to Wildlife Regulations in relation to hunting and the export of animals/pelts/meat outside the Northwest Territories. The sound recordings consist of 3 audio reels and 6 DAT audiocassettes that contain recordings from a conference entitled "Fish, Fur and Game for the Future" held in February 1981. The remaining sound recordings, which consist of 14 audiocassettes and 1 audio reel, contain programs and radio ads that were produced by the department between 1985-1990. These programs and ads were aimed at teaching northerners about caring for the environment, educating them about the role of the department and raising awareness about new wildlife regulations. The audio reel contains the proceedings from a Fur Symposium held in Fort Resolution from 1986.

The remaining material within the fonds is comprised of published studies, reports, and brochures from the Department of Renewable Resources; the majority of material relates to its Wildlife Service subdivision between 1976 and approximately 1997. There are also reports and indices of scientific research licences issued 1974-1982. There are also approximately 5 cm of reports created by the Science Advisory Board of the Northwest Territories. The reports date from 1979-1982 and include the objectives of the Board as well as multiple topics including population studies, imported foods to the N.W.T., wind energy, aquatic resources, arctic marine mammals, dietary habits of Indigenous populations and animal management.

This fonds consists of approximately 4.4 meters of textual records from the Department of Social Services. The records include materials from the Management Services Division, Community and Family Support Division, Correction Services, Mental Health Service, Young Offender and Child Welfare. Records include files related to transfer of responsibilities from the federal government; block funding arrangement; summer camp programs; group homes; outpost camps; policy and program development; regional delivery of programming; Senior Management Committee meetings; mental health programming; seniors and hadicapped programming; corrections; daycare services; drug and alcohol programs and family violence programming .

This fonds consists of approximately 29.49 meters of textual material, two reels of microfilm, 11 microfiches, 2 Betamax videocassettes, and 3 architectural drawings created by the NWT Housing Corporation. The bulk of the material consists of correspondence, minutes, reports and decision papers from the following committees and working groups: Board of Directors Human Resources Committee, Policy Committee, Finance Committee, Housing Committee, Prime Public Authority Steering Committee, Senior Management Committee, Advisory Committee, Housing and Services for the Aged and Handicapped Committee, Tripartite Management Committee, Planning and Monitoring Committee, Advisory Committee on Social Housing, Maintenance Management Review Committee, Staff Housing Infrastructure Review Committee, Retrofit 2 Review Committee, Informatics Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Social Envelope Committee, Maintenance Steering Committee, Harmonization Working Group, Harmonization Committee and Corporate Executive Committee. There are also minutes, reports and correspondence from District construction meetings, community consultation meetings including the community empowerment initiative and various inter-departmental committees.

The files from the policy and research programs relate to the development of a new Rent Scale Program, Homes for Seniors Program, and Northern Housing Program, and also include program delivery records for cost-shared programs with the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) such as the Rental Program, Emergency Repair Program, Homeownership Program and Residential Rehabilitation Program. There are also files related to a training education and development proposal, surveys and reviews of NWTHC programs, housing needs survey reports for the communities of Iqaluit, Kugluktuk, Yellowknife, Bay Chimo, Pelly Bay, Pond Inlet, Norman Wells, Wha Ti, Paulatuk and Snare Lake, as well as a case study on housing in Fort Good Hope. There is also material related to a review of the status of the Housing Corporation as a Crown Corporation and manuals and planning files related to the NWTHC Maintenance Management System, the Management Information System (MIS), Building and Learning Strategy and Core Need Income Threshold.

In addition, there are files relating to the relationship between the NWT Housing Corporation and district or regional housing authorities including files regarding the administration of the Local Housing Organization program, minutes of the meetings with regional housing authorities and signed management agreements with these regional housing authorities.

There is also a small number of files from the Operations Division and Finance and Infrastructure Services, including guidelines and policies related to social housing and modernization improvement program, an Electrical Use Study, and several files concerning the Corporation's involvement and response to the GNWT Utilities Reduction initiative. From Finance and Infrastructure Services there are policies and procedures manuals documenting financial functions of the NWT Housing Corporation. There are also agreements between the Housing Corporation and the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Nunavut Housing Corporation, and the Northwest Territories Mortgage and Loan Company. There are also briefing books, President and Ministerial Chronos, the Brishaw Report, strategic planning material, organizational reviews, housing demand studies, work plans and decision papers related to the proposed amalgamation of the NWT Housing Corporation, Department of Transportation and Department of Public Works and Services, correspondence, reports and decision papers regarding the harmonization of social assistance programs (Education, Culture and Employment) and public housing programs. Also included is the Housing Implementation Strategy and an agreement regarding staff housing program responsibilities. There are also two Betamax format videotapes entitled: "Homeownership Assistance Program" and "House Construction (Part 1) Homeownership Assistance Program".

The files from the Programs and District Operations division include records about the Alternate Housing Program, the Home Improvement Program, the Rental Housing Admission process, consultations on CHMC program review, records from the Homeownership Assistance Program (HAP,) and the HAP Allocation Committee, economic rent calculation, consultations and other records regarding Rent Scale, and policies and procedures for the Corporation. Also included is a small group of records about the Lease to Purchase Program, the Northern Territorial Rental Purchase Program, the Downpayment Assistance Program, the Minimum Downpayment Assistance Policy Program (MDAPP), the Direct Lending Program, the Rural and Remote Program, the Owner Build Program, the Remote Housing Program, the Rent Supplement Program, the Staff Housing Program, Harmonization of Social Housing and Income Support, and housing for seniors. Also included are assessments of Local Housing Organizations (LHOs) and rent scale reports.

The files from the Policy, Programs and Informatics division include records about the Rent Supplement program and copies of NWT Housing Corporation policies, directives, and procedures.

This fonds consists of approximately 2 meters of text from the Centennial Centre. The bulk of the material, dated from 1969 to 1971, was part of the Central Registry system (19 Block). The records include materials related to community directed activities and central initiatives such as the Centennial Newsletter, Centennial Medallion, Centennial Ball, Centennial Map and three "First Day Covers" consisting of stamped envelopes regarding the Centennial Eastern Dog Sled Mail Run in April 1970. The stamps are post marked Baker Lake, Chesterfield Inlet and Inuvik. . The remaining material consists of files relating to the Centennial Conference, an interim report regarding Centennial Activities, Centennial Programs, and Briefing Notes concerning the planning of activities and copies of Centennial newsletters and a schedule of events.

This fonds consists of 34.5 cm of textual material and one reel of microfilm. The textual material was part of the Central Registry system (50 Block) and dates from 1968 to 1976. The records include material related to the financial and administrative operations of the Government of the Northwest Territories, including information on federal/territorial fiscal arrangements and policies related to purchasing and contracts. The microfilm reel contains records from 1971. The material is from the following program areas of the Central Registry file system: Office Services (50 block); Territorial Treasurer (50 block); Treasury Services Division (51 block); Financial Services Division (52 block); Accounts Payable (52 block); Supply Services (53 block); and the Systems Division (57 block). Additional records include a 1973 report on non-insured medical/social services commissioned by the Department of Social Development and a copy of the Treasury Manual - Part 1, Financial Regulations from 1974-1977.

This fonds consists of approximately 61.6 cm of textual material and 17 reels of microfilm from the Central Registry filing system. Portions of the records were generated by the Highways Division of the Department of Public Works (30 block) and date between 1968-1978. The textual records consist of highway maintenance files, private access road files and minutes from the Northern Road Program. The remaining files, dated between 1972-1985, relate to the development and implementation of the Northern Preference Policy. There are also copies of minutes from the 1973 Highway Supervisors' Conference. The microfilm contains records from the design division, construction division, engineering division, operations and maintenance division, highways and marine operations, utilities and accommodation services.

This fonds consists of approximately 3 cm of textual material and 10 black and white photographs. The textual material consists of a copy of a journal kept by Carleton Appleby during the summer of 1946, during a trip on the Athabasca and Slave Rivers aboard the boat 'Beaver Lake.' He also visited Yellowknife, Fort Fitzgerald and Fort Rae during his journey. The 10 photographs were probably taken that same summer and depict the communities of Fort Rae and Yellowknife, as well as individuals he met in Yellowknife and aboard the riverboat 'Dease Lake.'

The textual material was generated by the activities of the Directorate, Education Committees, the Language Bureau, Board Operations, Early Childhood and School Services Division, Culture, Heritage and Languages Division, Policy and Planning Division - later known as Strategic and Business Services, the Education Programs and Evaluation Branch (predecessor of the School Services Division), Education Operations and Development Division, Income Support programs and the College and Careers Development Division.

The material created by the Income Support Division consists of records related to reforms to the Income Support program, the redesign of the Student Financial Assistance program, internal audits of regional offices, a study on welfare use in the NWT and financial support related to energy and utilities.

The material created by the Directorate includes records related to departmental committees and meeting records from the Senior Management Committee, Executive Committee, Directors and Superintendent meetings, Minister and Chair meetings, Building and Learning Strategy Committee, the Strength from Culture Guiding Committee, School Finance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee, Information Steering Committee, the Subcommittee for Human Resource Planning for Division, the Nunavut Implementation Committee, the Residential School Interagency Committee and Traditional Knowledge Committee. In addition, there are records related to the Senior Secondary Community Schooling Policy, the Seniors Fuel Subsidy Program and the operation and administration of Arctic College. As well, there are Deputy Minister chronos [1994-2010], Ministerial chronos [1997-2010] and Ministerial correspondence [2001-2002].

The material created by the Education Committees consists of reports and minutes from the Fort Smith Region, including the Trout Lake Community Education Committee, Fort Providence Community Education Committee, and Wrigley Community Education Committee. The files that were created by the department's Board Operations Section includes material related to Senior Management Committee meetings, Directors and Superintendents meetings, Educational Development Branch meetings, the Sahtu Divisional Board of Education, the Building and Learning Strategy Steering Committee, Lester B. Pearson College and the Governor Generals Award Program.

The files from the Early Childhood and School Services Program include program review material, newsletters produced by the division for licensed childcare facilities and material from the School Health Steering Committee. In addition, there are division planning and program implementation material for the Aboriginal Language Program and Child Care User Subsidy Program, minutes and agendas from Subject Advisory Committee, Director's Meetings, Staff Meetings, Regional Board Meetings and Student Presidents' Meetings, correspondence and meetings with the Education Boards, files related to the development of health curriculum, the Special Committee on Health and Social Services, and Student Support Consultant related files. The remaining files relate to development of goals and objectives for the division, professional development for staff, planning and delivery of the Child Daycare Program Symposium, as well as copies of agreements and memorandum of understanding between the Department and the Federal Government and provinces for the Western Canadian Protocol, and Minority Language and Second Language Instruction.

The material from the Education Programs and Evaluation Branch and its predecessor the School Services Division consists of curriculum and lesson plan material such as Inuuqatigiit and Dene Kede, and material developed for use in the classroom such as alphabet and number posters in Gwich’in, Dogrib, South Slavey, North Slavey and Chipewyan. In addition, there is material from the Linguistic Programmes Division that includes Inuktitut language development and Slavey language development material.

The files from the Language Bureau include the newsletter Dene Yati, language terminology lists and training material for the Interpreter/Translator program that was delivered by Artic College but produced by the Language Bureau, as well as files from Language Coordinators Meetings and Language Bureau Meetings. There is also material related to french language service models, aboriginal language task force, and the Community Language Leaders Award. There are minutes from various languages' standardization committees, the advisory committee for the Canada-Northwest Territories Co-operation Agreement for French and Aboriginal Language, and the advisory committee for the Interpreter/Translator program.

The textual material from the Culture, Heritage and Language Division was created by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The files date from 1980-2003 and the bulk of the material consists of minutes of meetings from Section Heads Staff Meetings, Cultural Affairs, Collections Committee, Exhibit Committee and Senior Management Committee (ECE). In addition, there are files from the Public Records Committee and the Records Management and Deputy Ministers Committee, which includes comments from the NWT Archives. There are also promotional and development files from Education Services for events such as Heritage Day, Amazing Sundays and Open House, as well as files from the Geographic Names program. Other material consists of policies, Heritage Training Assessment from the Museum Advisory Management section, a file concerning the reorganization of Culture and Heritage Division, strategic planning files and an Audit Bureau report on the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. In addition, there is a file concerning the development of a brochure for the museum, policy and procedures for the community display area, files related to exhibit development and gallery renovation, a guide to the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge exhibit, and a guide on oral traditions research. As well, there are policies, directives and meeting minutes relating to the NWT Arts Council. There are records from the Heritage Advisory - Community Programs section, as well as administrative files detailing the Division's activities relating to various land claims agreements. There are records which relate to the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) retrofit, addition and renovations, which took place between 2003 and 2006. These include a geotechnical report, needs analysis, upgrade and renovations project brief, and an implementation strategy. There are also sound recordings consisting of an interview with Darcy Arden and stories told by George Blondin. As well, there are 8753 images from the office of Technical Services at the NWT Archives that date from 1979 to 2006, which document staff, exhibits, events, and projects at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.

The material from the Strategic and Business Services Division - previously the Policy and Planning Division - includes records related to department-specific acts and regulation amendments, job and program evaluations and strategies, and briefing binders. Copies of various agreements between ECE and other government agencies are included. Also included are meeting minutes and reports from senior management conferences and meetings, Executive Committee meetings, Directors/Superintendents meetings, Aurora and Arctic College Board of Directors meetings and correspondence, audited financial statements from the various school board divisions and Business Plans developed by the division. Files also include material related to the revision of the Education Act and the Student Financial Assistance program, as well as reports and communications plans. This material dates from 1983 to 2003. Further accessions contain Deputy Head Chronos dated 1996, correspondence and planning documents relating to Education Act and Student Financial Act Amendments, strategic planning reports on the Towards Excellence initative and the Healthy Children initiative, planning and correspondence for the Minister's Forum on Education, Executive Committee minutes and correspondence, Memorandum of Undertanding between the GNWT and the NWTTA and YK#1, minutes from the Constitutional Affiars Committee, correspondence and planning documents regarding the South Slave Divisional Education Council, correspondence and planning pertaining to the Pension Plan, and correspondence and meeting minutes from the Inuvialuit Communications Society Committee Meetings, the Native Communications Society, the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation, and the Advisory Committee on Educational Television. This material dates from 1987 - 2003. This material also includes a Memorandum of Understanding and related correspondence between the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment and Minister of Health and Social Services regarding the Social Assistance program transfer dating from 1995 - 1997.

The material from the Education Operations and Development Division includes records related to departmental organization, correspondence with divisional boards of education, reports and statistics on residences and correspondence regarding the community action fund. It also includes a file on the transfer of responsibilities of Sir John Franklin school to YK District #1, as well as a review of options for schooling of children in Ndilo.

The material from College and Career Development Division includes records related to the delivery and development of programs that includes correspondence, copies of program development material such as policy, framework documents, action plans, manuals and final reports. In addition, there are program review files related to the Student Financial Assistance Program and Income Support reform. The remaining files relate to strategic initiatives for the division including the integration of income support and career development, results of consultations that were done regarding the consolidation and transfer of social assistance programs to the department and division of the Northwest Territories and its impact on the College and Career Development Division and establishment of two colleges. In addition, there are reports related to the closing and future uses of Akaitcho Hall, Kivalliq Hall and Ukkivik Residence. There are also committee and working group records such as reference material, reports, correspondence, terms of reference and minutes from the Postsecondary Education Review Steering Committee, NWT Standing Committee on Teacher Training, NWT Teacher Qualification, Adult Basic Education Curriculum Development, Teacher Induction, GNWT Training Group, Secondary Diamond Industries Working Group, and the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition Steering Committee.

The remaining textual material was generated by a variety of sources including community literacy projects, Teacher Education Programs, Arctic College, the Baffin regional ECE office, and the Labour Standards Board. The files from Arctic College includes correspondence, decision papers, program review and evaluation files for the Apprenticeship and Trades Program, Early Childhood Education Program, Mill and Mining Training, and a report on Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program. There is also one file that contains a copy of an Arctic College Graduate Follow-up Survey report. There is also a package of material that was produced by the Department of Education and the Arctic Public Legal Education Society to aid in students learning to interpret and translate trials. The Baffin regional office files include meeting minutes of the Keewatin Divisional Board of Education from 1990-1992 and the Baffin's service delivery plan for 1995/96. One box of text was generated through the Nunavut Unified Human Resouce Development Stategy, in which the GNWT Dept. of Education, Culture and Employment played a lead role in various committees and projects. The files from the Labour Standards Board include meeting minutes, policies and procedures, and an annual report.

The bulk of the photographic material is in slide format and depicts community buildings (schools, churches, hospitals), people, scenery, activities and special events in the following communities: Hay River, Fort Simpson, Fort Norman, Rae, Port Radium, Lac La Martre, Fort Good Hope, Fort Franklin, Fort McPherson, Tuktoyaktuk, Yellowknife, Coppermine, Jean Marie River, Fort Liard, Nahanni region, Aklavik, Fort Resolution, Fort Smith, Fort Providence, Wrigley, Fort Fitzgerald, Arctic Red River, Reindeer Station, Whale Cove, Norman Wells, Iqaluit and Rocher River. A portion of the photographic record documents the activities of the Language Bureau from approximately 1973 to 1994 and includes groups shots, individuals at work and a 1975 Interpreter's Conference. Photographs of school openings, special needs children, departmental outreach programs such as literacy, internal departmental functions, and school and college graduating classes are in various formats. In addition, there are blueprints, photographs and negatives, as well as textual material that was generated by the renovation project of Our Lady of Good Hope, Roman Catholic Church in Fort Good Hope.

There are also approximately 2400 colour and black and white slides from the Tuktoyaktuk Traditional Knowledge Project, that document elders, locations and traditional ways of life.

The 35 films, primarily produced by the Government of the Northwest Territories, deal with subject matter such as prohibition in the north, education and the Mackenzie River Bridge.

The majority of the 1971 videocassettes were produced by or acquired by the Radio and Television Services Division. Most of the productions were developed between 1981 and 1995 from the Department's studio location in Yellowknife. Featured programs include "The Tube" and "The People." In addition, there are a variety of unique productions about northern subjects, traditional knowledge, and coverage of major political and social events in the Northwest Territories, both as finished programming and as raw footage. The remaining videos consist of master copies and raw footage from the Caribou Skin Tent Repatriation Ceremony, as well as documentation of the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge Project. There are also electronic records consisting of 379 digital images and textual material pertaining to this project, as well as two sound CDs containing narration, which was used during production of the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge video.

The eleven 8mm tapes and 7 DVDs from the Tuktoyaktuk Traditional Knowledge Project consist mainly of interviews with elders regarding toponyms and establishing shots of the region and town.

The audio material consists of audio cassettes that originated from the Language Bureau of the Department of Education, Culture and Employment and contains sound recordings of an Elder's Conference held in Yellowknife in 1991 and meetings about Traditional Knowledge that were held in 1990 and 1993. In addition, there are four audiocassettes that contain North Slavey language lesson material. There are lesson plans that accompany the sound recordings. The bulk of the sound recordings consist of audiocassettes from three projects coordinated by the Geographical Names Program. The first series of recordings includes interviews with elders from Paulatuk about traditional geographical names in the area. The second series are interviews conducted in 1987 by Alice Legat and Territorial Toponymist Randy Freeman, with Sachs Harbour elder William Kuptana. The remaining series contains recordings from the Dogrib Names Study. The recordings include extensive elders interviews conducted in Rae and Lac La Martre between 1989 and 1990. There are also a number of sound recordings that relate to Radio and Television Services video productions from the 1980s and 1990s. The vast majority of the audio cassettes relate to interviews done by the Tuktoyaktuk Traditional Knowledge Project from 1991-1993. The interviews with elders are about place names and traditional lifestyle of the people.

This fonds consists of approximately 1.32 meters of textual material from the Department of Public Works.

The material from the Policy and Planning Division includes material related to the departmental Establishment Policy and Northern Preference Policy. In addition, there are files related to ministerial tours of the communities, senior management meetings, Minister's speeches, energy policy, operations divisional meetings, annual reports to the Commissioner, devolution framework documents, and transfer of responsibility (i.e. health services) options. The bulk of the material is dated between 1975-1991 and consists of minutes and agendas from Director's Meetings, Manager's Meetings, Staff Meetings, Systems and Computer Services Review Meetings, Micro Computer Users Group Meetings, Priorities and Planning Committee reports, organization charts from the department and reports on petroleum products and the liquor commission.

The material from the Energy Management Division relates to energy conservation and includes a draft program outline and energy audit information.

This fonds consists of 971 photographs in slide and print format, approximately 1 meter of textual material, 12 videocassettes and one audiocassette. The slides and prints date between 1964-1993 and depict students and teachers of Grollier Hall, class trips and school activities such as banquets, graduation ceremonies and dances. There is also a signed photograph of the Honorable Arthur Laing and his colleagues taken during a Northern Tour in August 1964. The textual material is comprised of journals and observation notes belonging to Grollier Hall supervisors and contains information about the students' academic performance and daily life at Grollier Hall. The videocassettes also depict life at Grollier Hall and show dances and other activities such as the Inuvik Carnival. The audiocassette is a recording of the 1990 graduation ceremony.

This fonds consists of approximately 10 cm of textual material containing five diaries or journals and one trade ledger belonging to Ole Andreasen, who was a trader at Shingle Point in the Richardson Islands. The dairies date from June 1931 to November 1935. The diary entries include detailed observations about the weather, daily activities and visitors to the Shingle Point post. The trade ledger lists the prices and goods purchased from the trading post. In addition, there are typewritten transcripts of the diaries.

This fonds consists of one reel of colour 8 mm film (original master) of what was likely the Native Women's Association of the NWT first conference, held in July 1977. The film, approximately 175 feet in length, runs ten minutes. The film was transferred to Betacam (archival master) in 1997.

This fonds consists of one Betacam videocassette containing footage of the Aklavik area dated between 1953-1955. The footage includes break-up, buildings in the community, winter scenes of dogteams and tents, Easter services at All Saints Anglican Church, Whitefish Station in the summer including images of schooners, as well as beluga whales being butchered. In addition, there is footage of the reindeer roundup at Richard Island.

This fonds consists of 217 colour slides taken by Dr. Norris Hunt in 1968-1969. The photographs include images from Tuktoyaktuk, Aklavik, Arctic Red River (Tsiigehtchic), Holman Island, Cape Parry, Inuvik and the surrounding area. There are photographs of the DEW Line site and geological features such as pingos. There are images of nurses and physicians, medical evacuations, facilities and hospital patients, including images of Dr. Hunt instructing students in a classroom setting. There are photographs of the ski team and cross country skiers in Inuvik. There are photographs depicting events at the Miss Ice Worm pageant. There are aerial images of the area and photographs of typical housing and utilidors in Inuvik. There are unidentified photographs of people from the communities.

This fonds consists of approximately 16.7 meters of textual material from the Department of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. These records include materials from four major program areas: the Directorate; Energy, Policy and Economic Analysis; Regional Planning; and Mineral Development. The records include Deputy Minister level chronos; strategic planning documents; planning document related to petroleum resource management; energy conservation promotion; the transfer of the Northern Canada Power Corporation (NCPC) to the GNWT; work with communities and regions to achieve sustainable resource development such as the Development Impact Zone Committees (DIZ's); legislation and policy development; the negotiation, management and evaluation of the Economic Development Agreement (EDA), in particular the mining or mineral portion of the agreement.

There are also committee files pertaining to the EDA from the Policy Committee, Management Committee, Minerals Management Committee, Audit and Evaluation Committee, Communications Management Committee, Coordinating Committee, Programme Evaluation Management Committee and Information Committee. In addition, there is a Guide to Legislation that was developed by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). This fonds also includes Ministerial Briefing Books and Northern Oil and Gas Action Program (NOGAP) project proposals, progress reports from GNWT departments and evaluations of NOGAP. The remaining files concern indigenous peoples' land claims including the Gwich'in claim, the Sahtu claim, and the Nunavut land claim as proposed and developed by Tungavik Federation of Nunavut (TFN). Other files relate to territorial park proposals.

Included also are approximately 70 cm of project files and reports from EMPR and its predecessor Energy, Mines and Resources Secretariat. The project files relate to the Norman Wells pipeline project, Beaufort Sea Environmental Assessment , Borealis Exploration (Roche Bay Magnetitie Project) and the Baffinland iron project at Mary River. The reports and guides cover the mineral, oil and gas, mining and exploration and energy sectors, as well as legislation affecting exploration and mining. There is also a guide/dictionary of growth management strategies.

This fonds consists of 1141 colour slides of Fort Simpson, Fort Providence, Fort Smith, Fort Good Hope, Deline, Tulita, Norman Wells, Hay River, and Willow Lake River, as well as 5 colour negatives of Willow Lake (K’álǫ Tué) taken by Father Felix Labat OMI. Included in these are approximately 44 images taken by Sister Blanche Matte, sgm, particularly in Behchoko, Whati, Fort Good Hope, and Fort Providence. The photographs span much of Father Labat's career with the Roman Catholic Diocese of the Mackenzie, beginning in Deline in 1954 and stretching into the 1980s. Subject matter includes church services, weddings, first communions, and other church-related activities, transportation by barge, motorboat, canoe, dogsled, mooseskin boat, ski, snowshoe and snowmobile, portraits of Dene men, women and children, including students at Grollier Hall in Inuvik and Breynat Hall in Fort Smith, Dene arts and crafts, events, including the NWT Centennial Canoe Race and 1984 Pope's (cancelled) visit, and hunting and fishing activities.

This fonds consists of records from the Directorate, Policy, Legislation and Communication division, Wildlife and Fisheries division, Parks and Tourism division, Investment and Economic Analysis division, Industrial Initiatives division, Environmental Protection division, Minerals, Oil and Gas division, Fort Smith region, the Energy, Mines and Resources Secretariat and the Energy Secretariat of the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development dating from 1926-2007.

The records from the Policy, Legislation and Communication division primarily consist of project report files related to a variety of departmental programs and initiatives including resource management, the Energy Strategy, the Protected Areas Strategy, hunter and harvester assistance programs, Land Use Planning committees, consultation with Indigenous groups, a land claims workshop, Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act (MVRMA) compliance, and Slave Geological Province development; legislative initiatives; strategic planning, oil and resource development strategies and the Mackenzie Gas Project; parks and tourism; departmental operational review and organizational reviews; policy and legislation development committees, senior management committees and working groups. There are also records relating to the development of Forest Fire Management and Species at Risk legislation, amendments to the Wildlife Act and regulations, regulatory changes to the Forest Management Act and Territorial Parks Act, and protocols and regulations in regards to land claims agreements with Indigenous groups as well as feedback from the public, as well as records related to the development of the Business Development and Investment Corporation Act. Also included in the records are four signed agreements, the environmental agreement with BHP, the Environmental Agreement with DeBeers Canada regarding the Snap Lake Diamond Project, the Socio-Economic Agreement with DeBeers Canada regarding support of the secondary diamond industry in the NWT, as well as a Cooperation Agreement with the federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development respecting the Giant Mine Remediation Project. The records also document RWED's participation in the Sahtu Renewable Resources Board and preliminary screening of water and land use applications. The records also include a draft internal Use of Internet Policy, copy of the Thelon Game Sanctuary Management Plan, forest management policy development, compensation policy development, a review of historical records relating to reindeer, and material relating to Metis harvesting rights. The records also document the Department's involvement in the processes of devolution of natural resources from the federal government, division between the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and division of RWED into the Departments of Environment and Natural Resources and Industry, Tourism and Investment.

Records from the Forest Management division include meeting and workshop records, regional year-end reports, records relating to the negotiation of forest management agreements, fire effects camps messaging and reports, public education program planning, excerpts from the operations manual, and informational guides and pamphlets.

Records relating to Wildlife Management include those on the subjects of disease, endangered species, land use, predator control, trapping, hunting, fur production and harvesting data, fur marketing, support for harvesters, hunting and trapping associations, outfitting, environmental protection and conservation, environmental assessment and monitoring, land claims, trapper taxation, trapping standards, animal sightings, game management reports, registered trapping areas, pipelines, sport fishing and lake stocking, fisheries management, conservation education, business opportunities, national parks, territorial parks, preserves, sanctuaries and refuges. Records also include federal committees and studies, manuals, permits, licenses, newsletters, annual reports, strategic plans, and administrative records (ie. Staffing - GNWT policies), mandate documents, and staff chronos relating to the operation of the Division. The wildlife management records include studies or records relating to falcons, gyrfalcons, geese, duck, swans, bears, bison, beaver, sheep, caribou, fox, reindeer, wolf, muskoxen, muskrat, marten, mink, lynx, wolverine, moose, hare, waterfowl and arachnids (spiders). Policies and programs covered by these records include the Guiding and Outfitting Policy, Fire Management Policy, Firearm Safety Instructor Course Program, Bathurst Management Planning Committee, Trapper Treeline Program, Trapper Training, Harvesters Assistance, Trapper Compensation, Community Freezer Program, Fur Program, trap exchange, fur marketing, Biodiversity Working Group, interaction with COSEWIC, and the Fish and Wildlife Service Policy. Each region of the Northwest Territories is represented. The records also include Wildlife Act revisions, consultation records (audio cassettes) for the new Wildlife and Species at Risk Acts, Senior Management committee material and briefing notes for 1999-2004.

The textual records and slides relating to the Parks and Tourism division date 1979-2006 and include Economic Development Agreement (EDA) files (contribution files), interpretive centre and display project files, signage and design files, map planning and development, campground reports and statistics, public image documents, records relating to the development of the Explorers' Guide, tourism promotion planning, and tourism studies. They also include capital project records relating to historic sites and properties, territorial parks operations and development, events such as Expo '86, and structural objectives of the Division. There are also minutes and planning documents from internal Tourism meetings, Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee, the Protected Areas Strategy, NWT Arctic Tourism and a file related to the NWT Tourism Industry Association Review that was prepared by a consultant for the department. There are also ministerial, deputy minister and assistant deputy minister chronos.

The files from the Investment and Economic Analysis division date from 1990-2006 and include records on the marketing and promotion of northern arts in crafts in North America, Japan and Europe, egg marketing, the role of the department in the development of the Master of the Arctic exhibit, establishment of the Business Development and Investment Corporation, arts and culture strategy, Northern innovation, the diamond industry, and manufacturing strategy. The majority of the files consist of strategic planning materials concerning public relations for the department, business planning files related to arts and crafts development in the communities, briefing notes, agreements, reports, Decision papers, meeting material, and reference material. There is also Deputy Minister correspondence concerning the relationship between Economic Development and Tourism, Business Credit Corporation and NWT Development Corporation, as well as briefing notes, files from senior management meetings and Premier Panel Meeting, files regarding the Arts and Crafts Committee and internal newsletters. There are also files generated by intergovernmental committees and commissions, including the Business Incentive Policy review and the Banker's Commission.

The records from the Directorate primarily consist of Ministerial and Deputy Minister chronos and briefing books. There are also departmental planning files including records from a Departmental Review Committee related to consolidation of the following departments: Economic Development and Tourism, Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources and Renewable Resources, as well as minutes and materials from departmental Senior Management meetings and workshops. There is also a file for 2004 meetings of the Legislation Committee to review alterations to legislation and regulation for the Department. In addition, there are files related a variety of issues from several divisions within the department, including records related to wildlife management, forest and fire management, including annual forest fire operations reports, the development and privatization of NWT parks, marketing strategy for tourism in the NWT, the operation of the NWT Business Credit Corporation and NWT Development Corporation, records regarding the Economic Development Agreement (EDA), records from the Deputy Minister's Committee on the Devolution of Lands and Resources, as well as records relating to RWED's co-lead role in the development of a National Diamond Strategy. Records also include deputy minister's files on the Arctic Energy Alliance, from when the deputy minister sat on the Board of Directors.

The records from the Minerals, Oil and Gas division relate to the "Increasing the Number of Northern Workers in the NWT Mineral Industry - Impacts and Strategies" study, mineral sector annual reports, Project Rocks educational resources, mining and exploration surveys, mineral royalty and mining taxation options, a draft Mining Income Tax Act, website development for the Coronation Gulf Mineral Development Area and the Mackenzie Valley Mineral Development Area, and mineral exploration projects. The records also include maps showing mineral deposits and petroleum resources. Records from the predecessor department of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources are also present in large quantities.

This fonds also consists textual material comprised of publications from the Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development. The reports date from 1997-2006 and relate to animals and flora, specifically caribou, wood bison, muskox, dolphins and black spruce trees. Topics cover wildlife management, migration, calving grounds, population distribution, wildfires and seasonal movements and migration.

This fonds also consists of files related to the Trade and Investment Division and Economic Planning Division. This material consists of three files relating to mining industry winter road access, one file with varied material regarding NWT investment and trading strategies, including a brochure and report. There is one file on the Aurora Fund, a venture capital fund related to the federal Immigration Investor Program. Finally, there is one file containing a consultant's report on household expenditure cost differentials between the NWT and southern communities.

The fonds also includes files from the Industrial Initiatives division. This material relates primarily to diamond mining and gas pipeline projects and includes committee material, briefing notes, speaking notes, reports, and grants and contributions policies and procedures.

The fonds also includes records from the Fort Smith Region, including job descriptions, organizational charts, meeting materials, correspondence, site assessment forms, and records of the 1997 Fort Providence Prescribed Burn project.

The fonds also include records from the Inuvik Region relating to community economic development.

This fonds also consists of files related to the Energy, Mines and Resources Secretariat. This material includes correspondence regarding energy alternatives as well as natural gas power feasibility for Inuvik and Hay River, mineral development, strategy and northern hiring practices, Development Impact Zones (DIZ's) and major project preparedness for full-scale hydrocarbon development of the Northwest Territories.

This fonds also consists of files related to the Energy Secretariat, tasked with drafting an energy strategy for the NWT. Materials include workshops, meeting minutes, public consultations, stakeholder responses, correspondence and a discussion paper, "Towards an Energy Strategy for the NWT."

This fonds also consists of files related to the Environmental Protection Division. This material includes correspondence, meeting minutes, society formation and workshop proceedings of the Arctic Energy Alliance, created in concert with four other Government of the Northwest Territories organizations and the NWT Association of Municipalities.

The fonds consist of 48 Betacam videocassettes, 6 audiocassettes and 6 cm of textual material. The videocassettes contain stock footage documenting the construction of a birchbark canoe for the Dogrib Birchbark Canoe Project, which took place in May-June, 1996. In addition, there are 2 professionally produced Tlicho (Dogrib) language (English subtitles) broadcast versions of the project; one version is 0:29 in length, the other 0:40. The broadcast versions were completed in early-1997. The 6 audiocassettes contain Tlicho (Dogrib) language interviews conducted at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, as well as corresponding typed transcriptions. The textual material also includes proposals, project reports, logs for the videocassettes and letters of support.

This fonds consists of approximately 8 cm of textual material. The fonds is comprised of three accessions; the first accession consists of court documents from the Stipendiary Magistrate. The documents relate to a legal dispute between Archibald Bonvie and Canada Catering Company. The second accession consists of nine volumes of transcripts from the Supreme Court. The proceedings deal with an application by Chief Francois Paulette, who lodged a caveat with the Registrar of Land Titles, in 1973.

5 cm of published reports and information booklets contain annual fire loss reports of the Chief of Safety as well as informational brochures on public safety topics such as fire, poison, home and industrial safety, with accompanying illustrations. These documents date from 1971-[1979].
