The photographs document the initial construction of Giant Mine in addition to general scenes of Yellowknife. They were taken by Sidney Hanford in 1945 while he was Master Mechanic at Giant Mine.

The photographs depict Michel Sikyea, his family and friends over a 30 year period.

Records were collected by Prof. F.H. Silversides, inlcuding three issues of a newsletter, "The Capsule", published by the NWT Hospital Association. Issues received are: Vol 6 # 3 - 1978, and Vol 7 # 1 & 2 - 1979. Records also include two unpublished reports: the first by A.M. Ervin of the Department of Anthropogy, U. of Saskatchewan, "Preliminary Notes Toward a Research Proposal on the Relationships of Culture, Death, Illness and Medicine in the Canadian Arctic". The second by John O'Neil, titled "A Preliminary Working Paper Towards a Research Proposal for the Master's Thesis in Anthropology".

This consists of an interview conducted by George Simeon in 1982-1984 with George Washington Porter. Porter was born on December 26, 1895. His mother was from Kotzebue Sound, Alaska and his father came overseas from Dundee, Scotland. The sound recordings are comprised of four files of the interview that was originally recorded on cassette tapes. The textual records are comprised of a transcript of the interview. The transcript was produced in 1984 when the Commissioner's office borrowed the tapes from the NWT Archives.

It contains one published program for the musical production "Canterbury Tales," presented by The Singing North.

This accession consists of one copy of a 1960-61 yearbook from Sir Alexander Mackenzie School in Inuvik. The yearbook has a cover made of cloth with an applique of the letters SAM.

Records consist of one Sir Alexander Mackenzie School yearbook for the 1967-1968 school year. The name Bobby Kadlum is embossed on the lower right corner. The yearbook includes photographs of students in Grade 7 through Grade 12, school athletics, clubs and special events.

Records include photographs of the construction of Sir John Franklin High School and the Akaitcho Hall residence at Yellowknife in 1957 and 1958. The photographs were taken by the contractor on the job, W. Weir.

This fonds consists of 28.5 cm of textual material including school attendance registers, year books and a copy of a school opening program. The attendance registers include a sampling of the Daily School Registers kept by Sir John Franklin High School between 1958 and 1967. These registers recorded student attendance, but also record a student's racial status, disc/treaty number and parent's names. The year books, entitled "Echo" include the folowing dates: 1972, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2005. The records also includes 'Voices of the Past, Visions for the Future: A Grand Opening Celebration', an official program dating from November 9, 2000. The event was used to mark the completion of the many upgrades and renovations made to the school.

This fonds consists of 14 audio cassettes and 2 VHS videocassettes containing interviews with elders that resulted from the Snare Lake Education Committee's efforts to gather information for a handbook on cultural programming for use in the school. The elders interviewed during February 1992 were: Harry Kodzin, Margaret Lafferty, Marie Simpson, Jimmy Kodzin, Rosa Fish, Celine Wanazah, Rosa Pea'a, Alexis Arrowmaker, Madeline Judas, Louis Whane, Joe Pea'a, Roger Arrowmaker, Leonard Fish, Charlie Eyakfwo and Joe Dryneck. Activities and topics discussed include: Easter in the past, survival in the bush, making camp, Tlicho (Dogrib) food preparation, Tlicho (Dogrib) social life and customs, hunting and butchering caribou, traditional tools and constructing a drum. Some interviews with John Pea'a on cultural inclusion and religious instruction were conducted in 1989 and collected for this project.

This accession consists of a photocopied paper titled "Some Thoughts of B. G. Sivertz about the Idea of Dividing the Northwest Territories." The original was dated February 12, 1985.

The two film reels are identical; the heavily edited original contains many splices while the copy is in good condition. The film shows a boat trip taken by company members down the Nahanni River to the Nahanni Butte area. Ron Close, Jack Wright, T. T. Hearne, B. D. Patterson, and E. L. Rand are featured in the film.

This fonds consists of 35 cm of textual material, 151 photographs, four posters, one videocassette (VHS) and one CD-ROM. The records date from 1969 to 2002 and were produced and accumulated by the Sport North Federation and include some materials that may have originated from the Arctic Winter Games Corporation. The bulk of the textual records include correspondence from 1975 about the formation of Sport North; its by-laws and constitution; copies of the Sport North publication "Sports News"; publications, programs and pamphlets from various Arctic Winter Games; the 1984-85 Annual Report for Sport North; and copies of the Sport North 1984 and 1985 manual and directory. The remaining textual material includes two manuals entitled "Dene Games, A Culture and Resource Manual" and "Arctic Sports, A Training and Resource Manual." The material was written by Michael Heine and produced between 1998-2002 by Sport North Federation and the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs. The manuals are accompanied by one CD-ROM which includes written accounts from elders speaking about Dene games, and includes video clips of the finger pull, stick pull, pole push, snow snake and hand games. The videocassette (VHS) is 45 minutes and length and includes archival photographs and film footage of traditional Dene life, as well as detailed footage of the five traditional games played at the Arctic Winter Games. The video shows each event and describes the rules and physical details of the finger pull, stick pull, pole push, snow snake and hand games. The video footage of the five traditional games was taken at the 1998 Arctic Winter Games. The fonds also contains six scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about sports dated from 1977 to 1979, as well as Sport North Federation and Arctic Winter Games posters. The photographs document the first and fifth Arctic Winter Games (AWG).

This fonds consists of a loose leaf diary of his trip to the NWT in 1929 and thirteen prospecting journals (field books). The diary consists of 25 loose leaf pages detailing Spud Arsenault's journey in 1929 to northern Alberta and the NWT. It includes descriptions of his travel by plane with Punch Dickens to the NWT including Fort Resolution and Fort Rae. The diary also includes descriptions of camp life, hunting, fishing, prospecting and work with Herb Dixon. The field books detail travel and prospecting activities in the Yellowknife area, the Great Bear Lake area, Watson Lake Yukon, northern Alberta and northern Saskatchewan with various mining companies from 1929-1946.

This accession consists of one black and white photographic print of the interior of the Squeeze-In Cafe, Yellowknife. The photograph features Peter Sheck, one of the owners. Sheck and partner George Gervan ran both the restaurant and the social club upstairs.

This fonds consists of one school attendance register from St. David's Mission in Fort Simpson for the year 1919.

This fonds consists of 827 photographs and 1 cm of textual material from 1949 to 1978, documenting the activities of St. John Ambulance and other first aid projects in the Northwest Territories. The textual records are comprised of: Jack Adderly's story about Tony Dauksa and how his life was saved by the creation of survival cairns in the arctic by St. John Ambulance; a cover page and maps that accompanied a binder of photographs; and a 1982 St. John Ambulance press release. Two of the photographs relate to a survival cairn set up by a group of St. John Ambulance Cadets (6 from Great Britain and 6 Canadians), on July 31, 1976.

This accession consists of one 1962 parish bulletin from St. Joseph's Cathedral in Fort Smith.

Records include photographs taken at Labine Point, Great Bear Lake. The images depict Philip St. Louis, an aerial view of Labine Point, and a Canadian Airways plane refuelling. One photo may have originally belonged to F. M. Boland.

It contains the programme for the musical "Two Hands and For Ever", which was produced and written by Robin Beaumont and Graham Hall in 1979, with music and lyrics by Robin Beaumont. The programme contains short biographical sketches on many of the workers and performers of this musical.
