Records include a map of the Yellowknife River and photographs of prospecting activities in the Yellowknife area. The photographs document scenes of prospecting camps and prospectors including Tom Hanson, Bill Larsen, Ben Sutherland, C. J. Baker and Hughie Muir.

Two of the photographs are mounted on calendars from 1952. The single image (:0001) shows Con camp in July 1936. It shows three aircraft and several tents. One of the two calendars was distributed by Ted Cinnamon, Yellowknife agent for Imperial Oil Ltd and features a photograph (:0003) showing oil trucks, a tractor train, and oil tanks along the shore of Great Slave Lake - Latham Island. The second calendar features a picture (:0002) of a boat, possibly the Radium Yellowknife and was distributed by the Lakeview Coffee Shop.

The textual records consist of a copy of hand written family trees for the Ruben and Thrasher families compiled by Esther Atkin Ruben. The images were collected by David Ruben and show groups of people from the Tuktoyaktuk, Baillie Island and Paulatuk areas. Item :0001 was taken at Tuktoyaktuk in 1945 and shows (l to r) Simon Kubluk, Charlie Thasher, Brother Michael Dobrowski, (behind) Peter Thrasher, Billy Thrasher, Alice Thrasher (Billy's second wife), George Thrasher, and Henry Anderson. Item :0002 was taken at Baillie Island in 1930 and shows (l to r) Mona Thrasher (Billy's first wife), his baby sister Misanik (deceased), Billy Thrasher, Mary Thrasher Kotokak of Tuktoyaktuk (deceased), Bertha Thrasher Ruben of Paulatuk (married Billy Ruben) and George Thrasher. Item :0003 shows Anglik Ruben, Shukialuk Susie Ruben and Mona Ruben Wolki (Paulatuk). Item :0004 shows Bertha Ruben with her children: Bernie Ruben Kuptana of Tuktoyaktuk, Christine Ruben Kudlak of Paulatuk and Joe Robert Ruben of Paulatuk.

The accession consists of four sheets of matte board with 15 colour photographs and captions showing the tanning method used by Elsie and Jonas Marcellais of Nahanni Butte.

They are entitled: (:0001) "Ice Roads" (27 minutes), (:0002) "Colville Lake" (28 minutes), (:0003) "A Fishing Tale" (28 minutes). Ice Roads features John Denison, Dick Robinson, and Marvin Robinson.

The photographs primarily document the building and usage of the tugboat 'Thunder River'. This boat was built by John J Lengyel, Chester Lengyel, Roy Erickson, and Mike (surname unknown), most likely between 1945 and 1947. The tugboat was 57 feet long, had a 12-foot beam, and twin 160 horsepower engines. It was involved in towing barges across Great Slave Lake. It was also involved in moving infrastructure from the former Canol Project south sometime between 1947 and 1949. This most likely occurred along the Mackenzie River between Norman Wells and Hay River in the summer of 1949. In 1950, the ‘Thunder River’ was listed for sale from Hay River.

This accession consists of eight black and white prints that were taken either at, or in the vicinity of, Kittiyakyut (Kittigazuit) in the Mackenzie Delta. They appear to date from the mid 1940s to the late 1950s. Kittiyakyut was a traditional whaling camp for the Inuvialuit who occupy the Delta. The images depict scows, tugboats, stages used to dry whale meat, and some of the Inuvialuit who occupied the region. Locations include Whitefish Point (Nalruriam Nuvuaq), Whitefish Station (Nalruriak), and Kittigazuit (Kittiyakyut).

This accession consists of one map (no. 16) taken from the fourth volume of a six volume atlas compiled and published by Philippe van der Maelen in Brussels in 1827. The atlas is entitled "Atlas Universale de geographie, physique, politique, statistique et mineralogique sur l'echelle de 1/1641836 ou d'une ligne par 1900 toises". The lithographs were prepared by Henri Ode, also a member of the Royal Geographic Society of France. The map, which is entitled "Amer. Sep. Partie de la Nouvelle Bretagne No. 16", covers 60 to 66 degrees north and 98 to 114 degrees west. This covers the District of Keewatin and some of the District of Mackenzie - and includes Chesterfield Inlet, Baker Lake and Dubawnt Lake).

This accession consists of a document related to an educational program on government and elections. The document, entitled "Position of the Legislative Assembly on Constitutional Development in the Northwest Territories" contains twelve lessons explaining the processes of government and the procedure of elections. It was designed to be used as part of a larger program by community educators on "Government and Elections" prior to the 1975 Territorial election.

This fonds consists of records of operation of the Science Institute of the Northwest Territories. Records include Science Advisory Board meeting minutes and annual reports, Constitution and By-Laws and Some Observations and Recommendations on the Formation, Organization and Management of the Northwest Territories Science Institute, legislation, briefing notes, minutes of several meetings of the Science Institute Board of Governors, strategic planning and review documents and report, a draft policy manual, documents on goals and objectives, a polonium and lead transfer study, beluga whale review, staff meeting notes, board membership information, discussion notes, annual reports, and correspondence regarding the cooperation and eventual merger of the Science Institute with Arctic College (later Aurora College).

The photographs, primarily aerial photographs, appear to have been collected by the Dept. of Energy, Mines and Resources from a number of sources. The majority of the images are of Yellowknife, but the collection also includes images depicting Fort Rae (Behchoko), Tukotyaktuk, Aklavik, Inuvik, Paulatuk, Rocher River, and Shingle Point, Yukon.
