This fonds consists of 184 black and white photographs and 11 diaries dated between 1953 to 1975. The images depict a variety of locations that Knox traveled to while working as a trapper and when working as a Game Warden in Fort Smith. Images include Inuit and Inuvialuit from Bathurst Inlet and Devon Island, a trip to the Thelon Game Sanctuary, hunting, fishing and trapping activities, travel by dogsled and canoe, views of wildlife, camps, Hudson's Bay Company Posts and the communities of Baker Lake, Rocher River, Fort Providence and Hay River. The diaries' entries note weather conditions, Knox's day-to-day activities and wildlife he observed while working in Fort Smith as a Game Warden.

The photographs primarily document the building and usage of the tugboat 'Thunder River'. This boat was built by John J Lengyel, Chester Lengyel, Roy Erickson, and Mike (surname unknown), most likely between 1945 and 1947. The tugboat was 57 feet long, had a 12-foot beam, and twin 160 horsepower engines. It was involved in towing barges across Great Slave Lake. It was also involved in moving infrastructure from the former Canol Project south sometime between 1947 and 1949. This most likely occurred along the Mackenzie River between Norman Wells and Hay River in the summer of 1949. In 1950, the ‘Thunder River’ was listed for sale from Hay River.

This fonds consists of one diary beginning in June 1933 and concluding in August 1934. The diary provides a daily account of John Nicholson's prospecting activities and work transporting goods to and from prospecting camps in the Great Bear Lake region. He was most active in the southeast region of the lake, particularly in the Sawmill Bay area. Included in the middle of the diary is a cash account listing for the Camsell River Mineral Syndicate.

Records include photographs depicting various locations along the Mackenize River. The images depict aerial views of communities and a Norseman aircraft. The images were taken by the donor's brother K.W. Philips in the 1950s and 1960s.

This fonds consists of 332 black and white photographs of Miss Castonguay's time spent in the Northwest Territories, primarily in the Mackenzie District, in her capacity as a schoolteacher. The photos cover areas of the north, including Fort Resolution, Fort Rae, Fort Smith, Fort Wrigley, Hay River, Norman Wells, Fort Simpson, Fort Norman (Tulita), Fort Good Hope, Aklavik, Fort Reliance, Fort McMurray and the Great Slave Lake area. There are images Josephine Castonguay's family members, Grey Nuns, Catholic priests (OMI), mission facilities, treaty days, and Dogrib settlements or camps. There are also images of floatplanes, travel by dogsled, and a variety of boats, paddle steamers, sailboats and schooners such as the S.S. Distributor, Northern Echo, S.S. Pioneer and Athabasca River, S.S. Northland Trader, Dease Lake, Immaculata and Ptarmigan.

The images include Fort Norman, the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches on the Hay River Reserve, Fort Good Hope, and the construction of the "Distributor" (ship). Some of the images remain unidentified.

The textual records recount the story of "Jim Wilkie's [Jim Wolki?] Dangerous Journey" from Walker Bay Post to Letty Harbour. The photographs depict communities such as Aklavik, and Tsiigehtchic (Arctic Red River), boats and bush planes and trading posts. The two maps detail the journey.

This accession consists of one report entitled "Northerners of Renown". This report contains short biographical notes on Peter Baker, Archie McMullen, John H. Parker, Oliver Lawson Stanton, R. J. "Jack" Stevens, W. Leigh Brintnell, A. J. "Bert" Boxer, Gordon Ingraham, Henry Busse, George Pinsky, Arthur Umbach, Ernest Boffa, Norman W. Byrne, J. H. Sissons, J. Murray "Jock" McMeekan, and G. Gordon Latham.

This fonds consists of 2.4 cm of textual records (one bound volume and one folder), two reels of 16 mm movie film (a large reel of 1000 ft and a small reel of 400 ft) and 317 photographs and negatives (198 of the Western Arctic and 119 of the Eastern Arctic). Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Inspector Cyril N.K. “Nordie” Kirk used the bound volume to record events during his time aboard the Hudson Bay Company supply ship the RMS "Nascopie” during its Eastern Arctic tour, summaries of RCMP inspections in New Brunswick, and activities during the holiday season between 1944 and 1945. He wrote and received the correspondence between 1945 and 1946 while living in Aklavik as RCMP Officer in Charge (OC). The letters detail daily life in Aklavik for his southern correspondents. CNK Kirk shot the film between July of 1947 and July of 1948. The large reel contains both black and white and colour footage of Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers, buildings, patrol boats, airplanes and travel by dog team as well as footage of Aklavik, Tuktoyaktuk and Herschel Island. The small reel of film contains all colour footage of RCMP patrols by aircraft to Fort Norman (Tulita), Norman Wells, Camp Canol, as well as shots of Aklavik, including the All Saints Anglican Mission church, hospital and school, Aklavik residents cutting and hauling ice. In addition, there is footage of Leona E. Kirk, wife of Nordie Kirk, Henry Larsen, skipper of the St. Roch, Mike Zubko, Bruno Wiedeman, Charlie Smith, George Roberts, Knut Lang, Dave Sharon Jones, Jim Edwards (Jim Sittichinli), Caroline Moses, Jimmie Jones, Walter Jameson, Phoebe Poole, Louis Cardinal, and several RCMP officers such as Walter Evan Bayne, D.J. (Tiny) Martin, Arthur E. McKinnon, Alfred Kendi, David A. Coleman, Alexander Scotty Stewart. Included in the 317 black and white photographs, which includes 32 negatives, are 198 images depicting life in the Western Arctic from the perspective of RCMP OC Kirk, who was posted to Aklavik from 1945-1948. The images include the communities of Aklavik, Fort Good Hope, Fort Smith, Fort McPherson, Herschel Island, Tuktoyaktuk, Fort Norman (Tulita) and Reindeer Station, as well as aerial views of the Richardson Mountains and images of the Firth River. There are also images of RCMP patrols, the "Distributor", aircraft, RCMP buildings and the Kirk family. The remaining photographs depict Royal Canadian Mounted Police patrols of the Eastern Arctic aboard the RMS "Nascopie" in 1943 and 1944 and include images of Arctic Bay, Cape Smith, Chesterfield Inlet, Fort Ross, Churchill (Manitoba), Lake Harbour (Kimmirut), Pangnirtung, Pond Inlet, Clyde River, Southampton, Wolstenholme and images of the "Nascopie".

The fonds consists of 42.6 cm of textual records and 4 maps created and used by Koenen's Air Service while operating a charter air service in Yellowknife, primarily in the 1950s and 1960s. The fonds also includes some personal records of owner Henry Koenen, including records of flying experiences with other companies in the 1930s and 1940s. The records include log books, correspondence, bills of sale, contracts and agreements, inspection forms, insurance information, payroll information, accident statements, Pilots' Flying Histories, invoices and receipts, an account ledger, income tax and financial statements, Air Transport Board reports, a promotional pamphlet, and maps showing areas flown to often.

This fonds consists of 583 photographs, most of which depict images of the Kraus' daily activities and the visits of local residents and many travelers to their home, and a 16mm colour film. The pictures are from the Nahanni area and include views of the Kraus' residences at Kraus Hot Springs (now in Nahanni National Park) and Little Doctor Lake. There are also photographs of Darrell Pfeiffer sculpting busts of Gus and Mary Kraus.
The 16mm film, which is the original master and the Betacam copy, the archival master, depict pesonalities from the Nahanni Butte/Fort Simpson area in the early 1960s, including Gus and Mary Kraus, their son Mickey Kraus, Dick Turner, Father Posset and Albert Faille.

This fonds consists of 98 black and white photographs of Yellowknife and Churchill (Manitoba). The images depict views of Yellowknife, including images of buildings, cat trains, dog teams, aircraft, boats and barges, mining activities, unidentified individuals and skaters on Back Bay.

This fonds consists of copies of 72 photographs taken by A.K. Miller between 1940 and 1942 and one audio reel containing an interview with Miller conducted by the NWT Archives in 1986. The photographs document Miller's trip from northern Alberta down the Slave and Mackenzie Rivers. The images depict a vareity of water transportation, such as the S.S. "Radium King," S.S. "Distributor," M.S. "Liard River," S.S. "Mackenzie River" and different barges. As well, there are several images of CANOL crews and construction, including African-American servicemen. There are also images of Canadian Pacific Airways aircraft, camps and dog teams. The interview contains biographical information on Miller and an explanation of river transportation in the north.

This accession consists of 27 black and white photographs of Yellowknife and the surrounding area featuring mine sites, road construction and buildings.

This fonds consists of 135 photographs copied from two albums compiled by the Lindberg family. The photographs were taken during the 1940s and 1950s and show Lindberg family members, communities along the Liard River including Fort Nelson, B.C., Fort Liard and Fort Simpson, freighting and ferry operations.

The photographs primarily feature Yellowknife buildings such as the public school, the Red Cross Hospital, stores and hotels. Images also include the Yellowknife Expeditor (ship) and its Captain Fred Coe, William McDonald public school, the Dominion Government's experimental garden at Yellowknife, and pictures of Fort Chipewyan (Alberta) and Goldfields (Saskatchewan).

This accession consists of six black and white photographs of aviation activities in the north. Included among the images are views of the first air mail services in 1929 and an aerial photograph of Yellowknife.

The photographs in this fonds document multiple trips down the Mackenzie River (Dehcho) on both the S.S. Mackenzie River and the S.S. Distributor. The images document the communities visited along the river, and in particular the barge supply route for the Canol Project from Waterways (Alberta) to Norman Wells (NWT) and members of the United States Army 388th Engineer Battalion working on the pipeline project.

This accession consists of one copy of a pamphlet from Mackenzie Air Service entitled, "Schedules, Tariffs: Serving All Mining Areas and Trading Posts in the Canadian Northwest from Edmonton to the Arctic".

This fonds consists of three photo albums containing 970 black and white prints. The photographs appear to have been taken during the construction and inspection of the road from the Alberta boundary to Hay River. The pages of albums #1 and #3 contain the title "Grimshaw--Great Slave Lake Road." The photographs in albums #1 and #2 appear to have been taken by F.C. Haven. Album #1 contains images :0001 to :0309 which were taken between May 1946 and June 1947. Album #2 contains images :0310 to :0661 which were taken between July 1947 and June 1948. Album #3 contains images :0662 to :0974 were taken between August 1946 and November 1947; these images were apparently taken by C.R. Cornish, Inspecting Engineer.

The records document a North/South bound air mail service schedule dated 1929-1930.

This accession consists of one map (no. 16) taken from the fourth volume of a six volume atlas compiled and published by Philippe van der Maelen in Brussels in 1827. The atlas is entitled "Atlas Universale de geographie, physique, politique, statistique et mineralogique sur l'echelle de 1/1641836 ou d'une ligne par 1900 toises". The lithographs were prepared by Henri Ode, also a member of the Royal Geographic Society of France. The map, which is entitled "Amer. Sep. Partie de la Nouvelle Bretagne No. 16", covers 60 to 66 degrees north and 98 to 114 degrees west. This covers the District of Keewatin and some of the District of Mackenzie - and includes Chesterfield Inlet, Baker Lake and Dubawnt Lake).
