This fonds consists of 5 cm of textual records, 346 photographs (colour slides), 6 reels of film (16mm original masters), 13 pieces of film, and 1 Umatic videocassette (archival master). The textual records consist of two bound volumes, one a diary documenting research and survey work, and the other a vessel log. The textual records also include a folder containing narration intented for one or two of the film reels. The photographs depict members of the survey crew and the Local Aklavik Advisory Committee at work during the initial survey and the later construction at Inuvik. The slides also document various aspects of the survey work including clearing ground cover, drilling test holes and constructing roads. Additionally, the photographs depict various buildings being constructed at Inuvik and some close-ups of pile driving and the construction of the town's utilidor system. The slides are originals created by Curtis Merrill, with the exception of a few duplicate slides created by Roger Brown. These duplicate slides carry the notation "R.B.". The film reels and videocassette primarily feature Aklavik and the construction of the new settlement of Inuvik (initially known as East 3). One reel is believed to be from Merrill's 1949 film of an expedition to Foxe Basin. There is also footage of the South Slave Region, Great Slave Lake, and Nahanni Butte. The 13 pieces of film contain outtakes from the Aklavik/Inuvik footage.

This fonds contains records documenting prospecting and mining activities around Yellowknife, primarily in the 1930s. There are images of camps, floatplanes, boats, scenery, C. John Baker and Herb Dixon. The videocassette (VHS) contains 8 mm film footage that was taken by John Baker between 1935-1936. There are scenes of traveling, camping and prospecting in the Yellowknife area and mining activities at the Rich claim (Giant Mine).

The textual material consists of an 82-page transcript of an interview with John Baker that was conducted by Walter Humphries in 1994. There are also copies of Baker's correspondence and work-related papers concerning prospecting activities in the Yellowknife area and the Rich claim (Giant Mine), as well as extracts from newspapers dated 1934-1947, a report by A.W. Jolliffe on the Yellowknife River area, an article about John Baker from the CIM Reporter, resident hunting and trapping licenses and a summary report on the Rich Group of Claims. In addition, there are 4 bound journals dated from 1935-1936 containing correspondence and observations about development and drilling, ordering mining supplies and equipment, payroll and expense information at the Giant Mine. Two of the journals contain notes and correspondence written by C. John Baker and the other two journals consist of correspondence and notes written by Lockie Burwash.

This fonds consists of approximately 8.5 cm of textual material and 8 photographs. The material is made up of five cookbooks and ledgers that were generated by the activities of the Daughters of the Midnight Sun, as well as correspondence, by-laws, membership lists, and loose recipes. The cookbooks were issued by the organization between 1941-1970. In addition to recipes, the cookbooks contain a brief history of the club, advertising, photographs and a list of the club's membership in January 1947 and in August 1955. One ledger that belonged to the Daughters of the Midnight Sun appears to date from June 17, 1968 until September 1969. The ledger includes receipts for the cookbooks issued in that year. Two other ledgers (financial statements) date from 1979 to 1985. The photograph was taken in 1971 and shows the Daughters of the Midnight Sun membership standing in front of the Capitol Theatre.

This fonds consists of 4 cm of textual material, 10 sound CDs, 8 DAT audio cassettes, 8 sound cassettes and 19 colour slides. The textual material is made up of transcripts of the interviews conducted by David Pelly for the Wager Bay Oral History Project, the final report for the Mount Pelly Territorial Park Oral History Project--Uvayok, and interviews from Sanikiluaq. The eight DAT audiocassettes contain copies of the sound cassette interviews with elders in Cambridge Bay that were undertaken for the Mount Pelly Territorial Park Project and ten compact discs contain interviews with elders in Sanikiluaq about the traditional knowledge of seals. Also included in this fonds are 19 colour slides of the people interviewed by David Pelly for the Wager Bay Oral History Project.

This fonds consists of 1.5 meters of textual records from David Searle's career as a member of the Territorial Council and as Speaker for the Legislative Assembly. The varied subject matter, from education to labour relations to land claims, is indicative of the numerous issues of concern for the Government of the Northwest Territories. The files have been kept in their original arrangement, however a few of the larger files have been divided into two files for conservation purposes and ease of handling.

This fonds contains photographs taken between 1973 -1975 during three distinct northern expeditions. Photographs taken from the first expedition, which took place in May 1973, documnent transport vehicles used by the team, sites and captured phenomenon related to Sherstone's glaciology work, and the townships of Fort Simpson, Norman Wells, and Inuvik. Photographs of the second expedition, taking place from May -June 1974, capture transport vehicles and other equipment used by Sherstone's team, notable homes and buildings in Yellowknife, Fort Good Hope, Fort Wrigley, Norman Wells, Tuktoyuktuk, Resolute Bay and Frobisher Bay [Iqaluit], and Sherstone's research sites and camp facilities during this expedition. Photographs of the third expedition occuring in May 1975 mainly feature aircrafts and landing sites, and natural phenomena viewed by Sherstone during this trip through Tuktoyuktuk and Norman Wells.

The recordings are of the 2nd Annual Drum Dance Festival held at the Coppermine school on December 25-26, 1955. David S. Wilson recorded the festival and provided an introduction and periodic commentary on the recordings.

This accession consists of eight black and white prints that were taken either at, or in the vicinity of, Kittiyakyut (Kittigazuit) in the Mackenzie Delta. They appear to date from the mid 1940s to the late 1950s. Kittiyakyut was a traditional whaling camp for the Inuvialuit who occupy the Delta. The images depict scows, tugboats, stages used to dry whale meat, and some of the Inuvialuit who occupied the region. Locations include Whitefish Point (Nalruriam Nuvuaq), Whitefish Station (Nalruriak), and Kittigazuit (Kittiyakyut).

This fonds consists of two identical posters titled "Our Land, Our Life", and 2 cm of textual material. The material is made up of two copies of the "Dene Declaration: Statement of Rights" on broadsides, and one "Public Notice" from the Chiefs in Council. There is also one illustrated calendar produced by the Dene Nation for the 12-month period from May 1979 to April 1980. Included are chronologies of important events in the history of the Dene, descriptions of Dene culture and images of Dene people.

This fonds consists of one audio cassette containing the recording entitled "Dennis Williams: hooked on the North" created by Dennis Duffy in 1977. The audio documentary was created from recordings of Marjorie Nicol and Dennis Williams held at the Provincial Archives of British Columbia. The documentary is about Dennis Williams who was a Court Reporter in the Northwest Territories from 1971-1974. Williams corresponded about his life in the north with his friend Marjorie Nicol, using both text and audio recordings.

Father Beauregard helped to co-ordinate the construction of St. Patrick's Church on 52nd Ave. in Yellowknife. The photographs were included in the biography and depict Father Maurice Beauregard, as well as the old St. Patrick's Church in Old Town Yellowknife, and the construction of the new church on 52nd Ave.
