The series documents J.I. Glick's Yellowknife real estate business, Central Real Estate, as well as the Gold Range Hotel, which was an asset of Central Real Estate. The property records include records predating formal incorporation of Central Real Estate in 1953. Glick was the first manager of the Gold Range Hotel from 1958-1966, when he and his wife Sadie Glick sold their shares.

The original two audiocassettes were copied to DAT circa 1995-1996. The DAT cassettes now constitute the archival masters. The two DAT audio cassettes (items :0522 and :0523) document the first meeting of the Great Slave Lake Housing Association which was held at Hay River in July, 1969. The 513 colour slides (items :0001 to :0513) and the colour prints (items :0514 to :0521) depict a variety of northern communities. Twenty of the slides (items :0366 to :0385) are copies of images taken by Sister B. Matte, a Grey Nun who worked in Rae in the 1960s and 1970s. Many of these images illustrate the social conditions, which existed in the 1960s and 1970s. A large number of images focus upon education in the north; depicting schools, adult education centres, teachers and students. There are also many images, which depict types of housing found in various communities. Subjects covered include education, housing, transportation, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police ceremony to honour Special Constables in the north, recreational activities, Caribou Carnivals in Yellowknife, Sports Day activities in Pangnirtung in 1971, and Toonik Tyme festivities in Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) circa 1970. This accession consists of 7.5 cm of textual records comprised of academic publications authored by Miriam Leith, as well as a large number of draft and research notes produced by Ms. Leith in her research on northern food and nutrition as well as housing programs. Files also contain correspondence and reports concerning northing housing programs. Related to Ms. Leith's work with the Adult Housing Education Program. Also included in the collection are copies of diet information and recipes distributed to the local people. Some of these materials are written in syllabics.
Leith, MiriamThe first, "Our People, Our Houses", was produced in 1981 for the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Commission (CMHC). It looks at northern housing from the Pre-Dorset, Dorset, Thule, Historic, and Settlement (Modern) periods. Examples show how technological advances in toolmaking and shelter building helped the Inuit advance. Also shown are examples of throat singing, fishing scenes, sled building, tattooing, and carving. The second videocassette, "North, the Land and Man", was produced for the federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (DIAND) by the National Film Board. It looks at the transition being made by indigenous peoples of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut to a modern, european way of life. Modern v. traditional hunting is shown, as well as modern oil and gas exploration, construction, sealift, and pipeline development. The third videocassette, "Fisheries of the Great Slave", was produced for the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) by Crowley Films. It focusses on the history of fishing on Great Slave Lake, beginning with Alexander Mackenzie in 1789. Emphasis is on the commercial fishing trade which boomed in the 1940's. Examples of both summer and winter fishing are shown.

Income Security divisionThe records document the (Tlicho) Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge Project, which began in 1997 and was completed in 2000. The 73 slides are dated June 18, 1998 and document a Feeding the Fire ceremony that celebrated the return of Bear Lake Chief's Caribou Skin Lodge from the University of Iowa. The ceremony took place at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The images depict drumming, hand games, and the exhibit at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. In addition, there are electronic records in MS Word and Excel related to the project and the trip Tom Andrews, Archaeologist at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, took to Iowa and to the Smithsonian Institute. The remaining records document the construction of two replica lodges for display and educational purposes. This part of the project was completed in partnership with the Dogrib Community Services Board, Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and Dogrib Treaty 11 Council. The are also electronic records in MS Word and Excel containing videotape logs and interview transcripts, as well as approximately 379 digital images documenting the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge Project. The audio material consists of the narration for the video by Margaret Mackenzie. The remaining video and textual records consist of hard copies of the video narration script, video voice over scripts with annotations, transcripts of videotaped interviews with Adele Wedawin, Bernadette Williah, Edward and Melanie Weyallon and Joe and Mary Champlain, video logs for reels 1 through 30 which includes a description of the content of each reel, a web page transcript of the project, basic program layout for the Skin Tent Program, a script outline for the project and an overview of the Dogrib Caribou Skin Lodge Project.
