Accession consists of news releases by the Department of Culture & Communications about events in 1986, particularly the NWT pavilion during Expo 86. Other news releases include The Hunters' and Trappers' Association receiving funding under the Canada - NWT Special Rural Development Agreement to help purchase a vessel, and the announcement of a seven-week series of "Amazing Sundays" at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. Another news release announces a meeting at Arctic Bay to discuss shipping in Admiralty Inlet and Strathcona sound.

Records are comprised of photocopies of correspondence and directives generated between March and July 1977 relating to federal employment initiative programmes and sources of federal funding available within the Northwest Territories, via the department. There is also a binder listing communities within the Northwest Territories, which details federal funding received, number of jobs created, and total man-weeks funded by federal manpower projects such as the Short Term Employment program (STEP) between May 1977 and October 1978.

Records include files related to strategic planning, policy development, decentralization efforts, assistance to businesses, the Canada-NWT Economic Development Agreement, and planning for a credit union for the NWT. Also included are records from the Department of Renewable Resources, including departmental planning, funding agreements, and records related to forest fire management.

Records include settlement files and files relating to departmental administration from the Directorate series (60 Block); files relating to camps and lodges from the Tourism series (61 Block); files relating to the operations of co-ops and arts and crafts projects, from the Economic and Industrial series (62 Block); and files documenting applications to the Eskimo Loan Fund from the Loans and Grants series (69 block). The bulk of the records concern the Keewatin region. These records were originally part of the Central Registry system and primarily administered by the Department of Industry and Development. The majority of the records were created by the Department of Industry and Development (1967-1972) and the Department of Economic Development (1973-1976), with the exception of the Eskimo Loan Fund files which were created by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism (1977-1995).

Records include policy files, reports and studies, correspondence, and case files related to tourism, co-ops, arts and crafts, community stores and other business, and loan programs. The files were held by the Central Registry and include some records created by the department's predecessors, including the Department of Economic Development, the Department of Industry and Development, and records from the federal government.

Records include audit files related to Economic Development Agreement (EDA) contributions, as well as records related to the NWT Business Development Corporation and the NWT Business Credit Corporation. The accession also includes a file from the Department of Renewable Resource regarding the transfer of the Forestry program from the federal government.

Records date from 1960-1987 and were originally part of the Central Registry filing system, and were administered by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. The records are from the following central registry blocks: 60 - Directorate (2.2 meters); 61 Block - Tourism (0.2 meters); 62 Block - Industry and Commerce (4.3 meters); 64 Block - Research and Evaluation (5.5 meters); 67 Block -Employment (0.7 meters); 68 Block - Administration (0.1 meters); 69 Block - Loans and Grants (1 meter). This accession also includes miscellaneous reports (0.3 meters). The Directorate files (60 block) contains primarily planning and policy files pertaining to the following subjects: Nanasivik, Mackenzie Valley Pipeline, and Hire North. There are just a few tourism files (61 Block). The Industry and Commerce files (62 Block) cover topics such as Co-operative development including regional reports; Credit Union development; arts and crafts support; EDA (Economic Development Agreement with the federal government); and marketing files. There are sampled case files. The Research and Evaluation files (64 Block) consist primarily of research files on various companies and industries. The focus is primarily on the mining and oil and gas industries. The Employment files (67 Block) consists of files related to employment figures in general as well as some specific files on the mining industry. It includes files on the Local Employment Assistance Program. The Administration file (68 Block) consists of a file related to a Regional Superintendent's Conference. The Loans and Grants files (69 Block) contain records related to loan and grant funds administered by the department such as: Small Business Loans fund; Fisherman Loan Fund; Eskimo Loan Fund. A small number of case files have been sampled. There is also a small collection of miscellaneous reports dealing with marketing plans and economic prospects for the NWT. In addition, there are reports about the Co-operative movement and the Small Business Loan fund.

This accession consists of records from the Tourism and Parks division of the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. The records relate to the Hanging Ice Bison Ranch and tourism marketing and include an options paper, background paper, correspondence, news release, guidelines and forms for Tourism Marketing Interim Programming, list of trade shows, marketing plans, and program guidelines for the tourism marketing program.

This fonds consists of six meters and 11 cm of textual material dated between 1964-1981 generated by the Department of Economic Development. The records include files from the Central Registry filing system and are from the following series: Tourism-Development Series (61 block) includes files relating to Camps and Lodges; Industry and Commerce Series (62 block) includes files relating to the Rankin Inlet Cannery; Research and Evaluation series (64 Block) includes research files on various industries, economic and statistical information, reports, studies, proposals, and committee records. Administrative Series (68 block) includes files relating to Equipment; and the Loans and Grants Series (69 Block) contains files relating to the Eskimo Loan Fund. The fonds also includes approximately 10 centimeters of material dated [1973-1977] which includes a brochure on a development fund, 3 reports on NWT tourism and 3 reports on rotation work schedules in the NWT as well as 1 cm of material relating to wildlife enforcement.

Records include recommendations for funding from the Heritage Advisory - Community Programs section, as well as administrative files detailing the division's activities relating to various land claims agreements.

The records date from 1992-1998 and consist of an options paper related to the reorganization of the cultural affairs program, as well as policy surrounding the program. In addition, there records related to the development of a brochure for the museum, policy and procedures for the community display area and one file related to exhibit development and gallery renovation.

Many of the records were created by the division's predecessors, the Museums/Heritage and Cultural Affairs divisions of the Department of Culture and Communications. Records include policy development files, reports on funding and training for community heritage organizations, exhibit storylines, NWT Arts Council reports, and minutes from the Exhibit Committee, Marketing Committee, and from a divisional strategic planning meeting.

Records document the evaluation process of a funding proposal submitted by the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre. Additionally, files contain a report produced by the division regarding the Open Sky Artist's Festival in Fort Smith.

Historical documents from the former Department of Resources, Wildlife and Economic Development are also included. The records include briefing notes and Community Futures Program operational guidelines and procedures.

This accession consists of records relating to the establishment of the Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC) and NWT Arts rebranding and activities. BDIC records include correspondence, meeting materials, copies of the Act and draft Regulations, review materials, organizational charts, lists of functions affected by BDIC and implementation tasks, and a communication plan. NWT Arts records include Logo Branding Program Guidelines and a presentation.
