This accession consists of records from the Mining Inspector, Resource Management Division of the federal Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development relating to the fatality investigation for Daniel Swadden at Pine Point Mines (Cominco Ltd., 1980). The records include correspondence, a coroner jury’s report, a summary of the accident, and meeting minutes.

This fonds consists of approximately 9 m of textual material and 12 colour photographic prints created by or related to the administration and operation of the Canadian Auto Workers Union Local 2304, formerly CASAW Local 4, in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Includes correspondence and reports originating from the Union's office, files relating to grievances, arbitration, the collective bargaining process with Giant Mine, joint occupational health and safety meeting minutes and case files, and legal documents largely related to the 1992 strike at the mine and subsequent civil lawsuits. Files relating to Giant Yellowknife Mines include correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, scientific studies relating to arsenic, cyanide, and asbestos, and operational records detailing the day to day operations of the mine. A separate set of records relate to the operation of the Salmita Mine, which was also owned by Giant.

The records from the Corporate Service Division and Governance Council/Executive Services are comprised of minutes, agendas and reports from the Executive Committee, Management Group, Investment Committee, Legislative Review Committee, Audit Committee, Senior Management Committee, Leadership Committee, Major Stakeholders, Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Planning Committee, Northern Options Committee, Policy Review Committee and Operations Committee, and meetings with the Minister and Joint Ministers. Records also include some incoming and outgoing correspondence of the President and Minister Responsible, briefing notes, an Information Systems strategic plan for 2002-2004, and a file relating to the legal action taken by the families of workers who died in the 1992 Giant Mine explosion. In addition, there are records of meetings of the Board of Directors and its successor the Governance Council, as well as their subcommittees.

There are also records from the Policy, Planning & Evaluation and Communications & Information divisions, including communications strategies, program evaluation and organizational review files, action plans, Public Image Committee files, promotional materials, stakeholder relations plans, reports on proposed programs and assessment rates, copies of the "Reflections" publication, board directives, and correspondence regarding board appointments. There are also records regarding the planning and organization of events held by the Workers' Compensation Board to promote and educate the public on workplace safety. Records also include Corporate Plans (2004-2006, 2006-2008) and Annual Reports, which include an incomplete set of annual reports from the Workmen's Compensation Administration, the predecessor of the Workers' Compensation Board.

Records from the Legal Services division include files related to the Workers' Compensation Board Review Panel; legislative reviews of the Workers' Compensation Act, as well as its related ordinance and regulations; a WCB legislative proposal related to the Years Maximum Insurable Remuneration (YMIR); development of regulations for the Assessment Division; and files tracking Mine Health and Safety Act mandated inspector appointments. Records also relate to the Joint Mine Occupational Health and Safety Legislation Committee, the operation of the Renewable Resource Harvester Program, and the Operational Health and Safety amalgamation with WCB (1996). The records also include Board meeting minutes from November 17-20, 1992 on cassette tape and a ministerial discussion paper.

Records relating to the NWT Regional Operations Mine Inspector's office include mine inspector reports and incident/accident reports for mines in the Yellowknife area. There are eight brochures and pamphlets on programs and information from 1982-1984, covering information on workers' compensation for employees, employers and hunters and trappers; first aid training and a safety incentive program. There are copies of the Mine Rescue Review newsletter produced by the Workers' Compensation Board as well.

From the Prevention Services division, there are records regarding safety education and safety education program evaluation, as well as reports detailing divisional objectives, program evaluation files for the Safety Incentive and Rate Reduction Program (SIRR), and investigation reports on fatalities.

Records also include the results of a Client Services Delivery audit; review and evaluation of the SIRR (Safety Incentive Rate Reduction Program); a Final Report on the WCB by the Chief Commissioner; a report on injured workers that was prepared by Avery Cooper; strategic planning and corporate planning material; program reviews; a copy of an operational review of the WCB; records on the Workers' Compensation Board Safety Education program; policy issue and draft policy files; operational requirements and communication protocol for the Workers' Advisor; records on proposed and actual changes to the WCB as a result of division between Nunavut and the Northwest Territories; and records relating to the amalgamation of Occupational Health and Safety from the Department of Safety and Public Services with the WCB.

This fonds consists of 353 black and white and colour photographs in slide, print and negative formats, 31 audio reels, 41 sound CDs, 42 audiocassettes, 24 DAT audiocassettes, approximately 1.62 m of textual material, 3 plans, 10 posters and 2 videocassettes.

The photographs primarily document exhibits and events at the museum. The sound recordings were generated by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The recordings consist of oral histories, lecture series, Dene drum music, conferences and assemblies, interviews with elders and people who lived in the North, and Christmas stories. The textual material includes records generated by the the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Legal Division. Textual materials include administrative files, a discussion paper and associated records on Community Museums Policy, exhibit storyline and exhibit content plans, reports, transcripts of oral history interviews, and files related to Status of Women and Gun Control. The three plans were generated by a project about Willow Flats that was conducted by the Archaeology section. The 10 posters were produced by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and advertised public lectures and exhibits. The 2 videocassettes are in Umatic or Betacam formats and consist of master copies of "Trapline Lifeline" and "Wings of Change."

The fonds also includes files from the Legal division, including records from departmental committees and correspondence relating to advice on the development of legislation and the coordination of territorial legislation with community by-laws.

This fonds consists of approximately 72 cm of textual material dated between 1970-1995. Records are from the Fire Safety, and Finance and Administration divisions of the Department of Safety and Public Services. The files relate to Director's and Settlement Council Meetings, policy and procedures files, reports, departmental reorganization, the Labour Standards Board, the Liquor Licensing Board and various standing committees.

This accession consists of records from the Workers' Compensation Board relating to the amalgamation of the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Division of the Department of Safety and Public Services with the WCB. The records include correspondence, copies of the signed contribution agreement, assignment of statutes administrative order, legislative amendments, legal opinions, planning documents and completed task list, communications plan and press release, business plan for the Department of Safety and Public Services, restructuring report, and job action contingency plan, and material relating to the Mine Occupational Heath and Safety Legislation Committee and the Task Force on Exploration and Safety Practices. Files 1-1 and 1-3 also contain some material relating to the Division of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

This accession consists of records from the Workers' Compensation Board, including a draft Purchase Policy file, an issue paper and associated reference material on Compensation and Wage Loss, statistical information for strategic planning, Knowledge Management Strategy Government of the Northwest Territories, Government of the Northwest Territories - Review of the Departmental and Headquarters Organization Structure, and Workers' Advisor Operational Requirements and Communication Protocol.

Records consist of public brochure rewrites and design, as well as the implementation of an official languages plan.

Records relate to large-scale projects undertaken by the division for the promotion and education of workplace safety. This includes the 2007 annual Mine Rescue Competition, the 2004 National Youth Safety Conference organized and hosted by the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB), and a television advertisement public service announcement campaign on overexertion in the workplace. The CD-R contains several commercials commissioned by the WCB and was produced by Cinepost films.
