Department of Indian Affairs and Northern DevelopmentThis fonds consists of approximately 9 m of textual material and 12 colour photographic prints created by or related to the administration and operation of the Canadian Auto Workers Union Local 2304, formerly CASAW Local 4, in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Includes correspondence and reports originating from the Union's office, files relating to grievances, arbitration, the collective bargaining process with Giant Mine, joint occupational health and safety meeting minutes and case files, and legal documents largely related to the 1992 strike at the mine and subsequent civil lawsuits. Files relating to Giant Yellowknife Mines include correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, scientific studies relating to arsenic, cyanide, and asbestos, and operational records detailing the day to day operations of the mine. A separate set of records relate to the operation of the Salmita Mine, which was also owned by Giant.
Canadian Auto Workers, Local 2304The records from the Corporate Service Division and Governance Council/Executive Services are comprised of minutes, agendas and reports from the Executive Committee, Management Group, Investment Committee, Legislative Review Committee, Audit Committee, Senior Management Committee, Leadership Committee, Major Stakeholders, Occupational Health and Safety Committee, Planning Committee, Northern Options Committee, Policy Review Committee and Operations Committee, and meetings with the Minister and Joint Ministers. Records also include some incoming and outgoing correspondence of the President and Minister Responsible, briefing notes, an Information Systems strategic plan for 2002-2004, and a file relating to the legal action taken by the families of workers who died in the 1992 Giant Mine explosion. In addition, there are records of meetings of the Board of Directors and its successor the Governance Council, as well as their subcommittees.
There are also records from the Policy, Planning & Evaluation and Communications & Information divisions, including communications strategies, program evaluation and organizational review files, action plans, Public Image Committee files, promotional materials, stakeholder relations plans, reports on proposed programs and assessment rates, copies of the "Reflections" publication, board directives, and correspondence regarding board appointments. Records relating to the NWT Regional Operations Mine Inspector's office include mine inspector reports and incident/accident reports for mines in the Yellowknife area. There are eight brochures and pamphlets on programs and information from 1982-1984, covering information on workers' compensation for employees, employers and hunters and trappers; first aid training and a safety incentive program. There are copies of the Mine Rescue Review newsletter produced by the Workers' Compensation Board as well.
From the Prevention Services division, there are records regarding safety education and safety education program evaluation, as well as reports detailing divisional objectives, program evaluation files for the Safety Incentive and Rate Reduction Program (SIRR), and investigation reports on fatalities.

Workers' Compensation Board (1977-2008)This fonds consists of 353 black and white and colour photographs in slide, print and negative formats, 31 audio reels, 41 sound CDs, 42 audiocassettes, 24 DAT audiocassettes, approximately 1.62 m of textual material, 3 plans, 10 posters and 2 videocassettes.
The photographs primarily document exhibits and events at the museum. The sound recordings were generated by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. The recordings consist of oral histories, lecture series, Dene drum music, conferences and assemblies, interviews with elders and people who lived in the North, and Christmas stories. The textual material includes records generated by the the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Legal Division. Textual materials include administrative files, a discussion paper and associated records on Community Museums Policy, exhibit storyline and exhibit content plans, reports, transcripts of oral history interviews, and files related to Status of Women and Gun Control. The three plans were generated by a project about Willow Flats that was conducted by the Archaeology section. The 10 posters were produced by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and advertised public lectures and exhibits. The 2 videocassettes are in Umatic or Betacam formats and consist of master copies of "Trapline Lifeline" and "Wings of Change."
