This accession consists of booklets relating to the Arctic Winter Games, including “for those who were there” NWT Team booklet from the 1978 Games held in Hay River-Pine Point, “we’re together again” NWT Team booklet from the 1980 Games held in Whitehorse, “Northwest Territories Team 1982 Arctic Winter Games Fairbanks, Alaska”, and “Cultural Performances, Arts and Entertainment Program 1998 Arctic Winter Games Yellowknife, Northwest Territories March 15-21”.

The film documents the first Canada Summer Games, held in Halifax from August 17 to 24, 1969. The film shows views of Halifax, members of the NWT contingent to the games, sports events, and opening and closing ceremonies. The film may have a sound track which is not playable on current NWT Archives equipment. The soundtrack was not transferred to video, and apparently reel 2 precedes reel 1 on the video copy.

Records include copies of photographs of Yellowknife. Two of the original photos were taken in 1938 and feature the town of Yellowknife. One image shows a Yellow-knife Bus Line's bus, and one image shows people watching a hockey game at an outdoor rink.

Records consist of a report and booklet about the T.E.S.T. Ski Program, a booklet and program for the Top of the World Ski Championships, a booklet for the Northern Games, and a program for Caribou Carnival. They were collected by Lorna Clement during her time in various communities of the Northwest Territories.

This fonds consists of 119 photographs in print, negative and slide formats and approximately 8.5 meters of textual material. The photographs depict sites along the Canol Trail, such as chapels, warehouses and repair shops. There are also images that document the construction of the styrofoam igloo in the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, images of the Nahanni Butte region and photographs of the Museumobile, which was a touring exhibit from the National Museum of Canada. In addition, there is a group picture showing participants of the 1977 Fish and Wildlife Convention held in Yellowknife.

The bulk of the textual material is from the Wildlife Services Division and its predecessors. These files consist of correspondence, reports of regional and community officers, minutes, field project reports, reports recording information on polar bear and musk-ox kills and fish landings. The records relate to a variety of activities such as: hunting, trapping, quota enforcement, animal studies and fisheries.

There are also records generated by the Recreation Division of the department. These records deal with Community Recreation Centres, NWT Youth Services, Northwest Territories Centennial in 1970, Arctic Winter Games and the Northern Games. The remaining textual material was generated by the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre between 1969-1979. There are files containing correspondence, promotional material, polices and procedures, and material relating to traveling exhibits and story lines.

There are also files of correspondence from the Northwest Territories Historical Advisory Board, Northwest Territories Heritage Council and records pertaining to the Territorial Central Museum.

Finally, this accession also includes approximately 7 cm of reports, guides and brochures, consisting of fishing guides, hunting regulations, reports on caribou and wildlife ordinances. It also includes summaries of archaeological resources and an overview of the Territorial Central Museum layout and use before it was constructed.

This fonds consists of 35 cm of textual material, 151 photographs, four posters, one videocassette (VHS) and one CD-ROM. The records date from 1969 to 2002 and were produced and accumulated by the Sport North Federation and include some materials that may have originated from the Arctic Winter Games Corporation. The bulk of the textual records include correspondence from 1975 about the formation of Sport North; its by-laws and constitution; copies of the Sport North publication "Sports News"; publications, programs and pamphlets from various Arctic Winter Games; the 1984-85 Annual Report for Sport North; and copies of the Sport North 1984 and 1985 manual and directory. The remaining textual material includes two manuals entitled "Dene Games, A Culture and Resource Manual" and "Arctic Sports, A Training and Resource Manual." The material was written by Michael Heine and produced between 1998-2002 by Sport North Federation and the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs. The manuals are accompanied by one CD-ROM which includes written accounts from elders speaking about Dene games, and includes video clips of the finger pull, stick pull, pole push, snow snake and hand games. The videocassette (VHS) is 45 minutes and length and includes archival photographs and film footage of traditional Dene life, as well as detailed footage of the five traditional games played at the Arctic Winter Games. The video shows each event and describes the rules and physical details of the finger pull, stick pull, pole push, snow snake and hand games. The video footage of the five traditional games was taken at the 1998 Arctic Winter Games. The fonds also contains six scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about sports dated from 1977 to 1979, as well as Sport North Federation and Arctic Winter Games posters. The photographs document the first and fifth Arctic Winter Games (AWG).

The fonds consists of 343 photographs (b&w negatives) of various Northwest Territories communities and events, taken by Tom Alföldi during the summer of 1971. The images include ground views and aerial views of Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Hay River, Yellowknife, and Tsiigehtchic. There are also images of the Northern Games which were held in Inuvik, showing dancing, drumming, rat skinning, seal skinning, tea making, blanket toss, and spectators.

This accession consists of one program for the Northwest Territories Buckskin Gloves 1964 Amateur Boxing Championships held in Yellowknife. Also contained in the program is Yellowknife Amateur Athletic Club's "Meet the Members" Year Book including photographs of the members.

This fonds consists of 6 cm of textual material including: correspondence and minutes of the Huskies' Executive; minutes of the Yellowknife Intermediate Hockey Association; fund raising and budget information; news clippings; game summaries and schedule; player information; and information on the Territorial Youth Associations. Also included is one photographic negative of the Yellowknife Huskies logo.

This fonds contains .5 cm of textual material and 41 black and white prints taken by Wilfred H. Kennedy who lived in the north in the late 1930s. He worked on the boats travelling the Mackenzie River before moving to Yellowknife, where he was employed at Con Mine. The photographs depict Eldorado Mines, Great Bear Lake and Con Mine, Yellowknife. There are images of miners and other residents of Yellowknife, including the members of the first hockey team in the community. There are also photographs of some of the first buildings in the community. There is also a letter from Alex C. Mosher, and a number of newspaper clippings dating from 1938 which were annotated by Alex Mosher.
